I have been on the fence about customizing a doll. Today, I have watched most of your videos and while watching each one, have ordered the supplies, tools and products to start! Thank you so much, I am excited to get started!

There’s an oil they add during the process of manufacturing the hair. If a bit too much is added, the hair ends up greasy. It’s been something people have complained about when buying loose hair for rerooting, so most sellers disclose it when a particular batch is oilier than usual :) Great tut!

I recently purchased a new Blythe doll that arrived with the dirtiest, stickiest, greasy hair that I’ve ever seen. It looked so awful I couldn’t believe it. A lot of the Blythe dolls I’ve bought have had slightly greasy hair that was fine after a wash. I washed this dolls hair twice with no improvement. Dish soap didn’t work either. I was heartbroken because it looked really awful and I couldn’t do anything with her. I watched a bunch of videos and a few suggested brushing baby powder or cornstarch through the hair. This was the only thing that worked. Hope this helps someone.

I love your videos. They are so informative and helpful, and so thoroughly explained. All I know and all I have done for my doll I learned from you. Thank you Casie!

I just got the worst hair on Blythe ever, it came all crusty/gelled and doesn't feel like the silky fiber like my other ones, currently I'm trying to fix that mess but it's a disappointment, hair colour was mint green and it's so weird because the other Blythe had regular nice hair

It may help to also use a regular brush first to help get the tangles out and then go over it with the fine tooth comb 😊

Baby powder is more helpful for my perspective, used this method so many times and it never worked

Very helpful & interesting. I'd assume the oiliness is plasticizer, which makes the material flexible & lustrous, slowly leeching out of the fiber. In other types of crafting like detailed glasswork, powdered glass stored in plastic long term can become difficult to use due to being contaminated with plasticizer.

Thanks for this info! I am assuming it's the same.

Yes, I think it is plasticizer. I work with polymer clay and it leeches a lot of oily plasticizer.

Dawn makes a degreaser spray that is powerful and works on pretty much anything. I wonder if it would well on the hair... not sure if it’d be too powerful or just right.

Extreme newbie here: I have a fake straight-haired blythe with bangs and very long hair. Tried to braid them but they slip through my hands and I have the feeling my fingers feel... smoother? after I touch therm. Is that what you mean by 'greasy'? because the look a lot like your green hair, but I'm trying to wash them anyway. I hope I won't ruin her. Btw thanks to you I managed to take her scalp off, despite not having used a screwdriver once in my life XD!
