Cheers bro, solid gold. Ordinarily undercutting is seen as a taboo in business, but whilst cost of living is raging and the only soundtrack seems to be a Joni Mitchell song, we need disrupters now more than ever. You make me want to take my car in for a service, but whilst I have time and not money, a bit of DIY is paramount. All the best.

Personally I think 10k mile intervals is fine. But I would agree that the newer long life service intervals of 20k are just to long for the oil, even for premium oil it still gets very dirty and carbon builds especially on diesels. Good video, your lucky that oil filter wasn't sized I've seen it on them early minis many times. The newer version has a plastic housing!

Good morning, l may have missed it but, what year is your mini?
@ajgil8260
@ajgil8260 6 жыл бұрын
Good video, but a crucial detail was missed. At the end of the oil change, start the Mini. Put it in neutral, apply the emergency brake, then look underneath the car to make absolutely sure there is no oil leaking from the filter canister. If there's an oil leak, SHUT OFF the engine immediately. The O ring was split, or severed, when you were screwing the canister back in. This happens. If you drive off not knowing you split the O ring, and your oil drains out, you will cook your engine. Guaranteed. Borrow somebody's car, go buy a new O ring and replace the split one.

@dtrrtd774
@dtrrtd774 6 жыл бұрын
MexiMan and Cheese Is it stuck because you can not get enough leverage on the wrench to loosen it, or because the flats on the housing got ruined trying to take it off ? Were you using the right size socket on it?

It saves going under the car and removing the drain plug in the sunp. A lot of newer cars also have under shields which when your working on the floor can be a pain. A lot of dealers on small services use oil extractors these days aswell. It sucks it through the dipstick tube.
@dtrrtd774
@dtrrtd774 7 жыл бұрын
TheMarshall85 how much oil is left behind compared to draining it from the drain plug? is it less than a half quart? as a test, maybe use the extractor, and then open the plug to see how much was left. if it's just a miniscule amount, I might get one of these, but if it leaves some of the oil, I'll stick to the regular methods.
@DIETRYING001
@DIETRYING001 7 жыл бұрын
its awlays better to remove the drain plug but sucking it out obviously has its advantages, time and place also it really does get the majority out, its negligible! you'd be surpsided what goes on even at prestige dealerships to save time on jobs etc, all techs are on flat rate bonus so its sales, sales, sales and get the jobs in and out! working at home without a ramp, its definitly easier to use an extractor from the top! alot of oil filters are accesible from the top these days aswell so no need to go under if its an oil service!
@dtrrtd774
@dtrrtd774 6 жыл бұрын
TheMarshall85 I don't doubt the quick oil change places would use whatever is quick and easy, but I have the time doing it myself to do a more thorough job, so if it leaves more than a half quart of the dirtiest oil in the sump, I'd just as soon crawl under there and drain it fully. I'm not against easy shortcuts as long as they are equivalent when it's done.
