BMW 216D Gran Tourer Review Singapore | This is my personal review of our new BMW 216D
This is a review of the brand new 2016 BMW 2 series, BMW 216D Gran Tourer which we recently bought as a replacement for our old Mitsubitshi Lancer GLXi.
We never thought of driving a new BMW car or a mpv car for that matter. So it was surprise for us when we signed the paperwork for a new BMW 216d on the same day of visiting the showroom in Leng Kee.
After driving our new ride for over a month or so, we decided to put this video review together for anyone considering the new BMW 216D Gran Tourer.

Hi thinking of getting a used 216d need your comments advisable to get one? heard that the engine oil consumes a lot as it burns out quite fast and need to top up it it true?Also the brake pads and rotors worn out quite fast and replacement costs are quite high is it true? Any issues with your car till today? esp gearbox engine etc? On average possible to get 900km on a full tank? Needs your sincere comment Many Thanks

driving hacks & car reviews btw bro. the price is so near to Honda Oddeyse or Estima which both are so much bigger why did u choose this smaller 216?

gday Loon Leow, our reasons are; 1. estima and odyssey are both 2.4L which we don't need, 2. the road tax is about $1,682 against $1,284 for our 216d (correct?), 3. diesel price over petrol price, 4. the free servicing which includes parts, labor 5. the warranty, 6. "one thing lead to another" (too long to explain..;), 7. environment friendly and maintenance cost, and 8. its a BMW. overall, in my review I think for a 1.5 car, it packs a lot of punch as far as performance is concerned we are really pleased with it so far (mainly the fuel savings).

Upgrades such as? If you are referring to car accessories, grooming services; yes there is. At the time of our purchase, add ons for $100 each; front & rear in car camera, grooming services (2 x), and 3M window film.

Great review. Can you pls comment on the boot space available when the 3rd row seats are up?

thank you for your kind words. the boot space is greatly compromise if 3rd row seats are up. this will limit luggage space to stow 3-4, 40L haversacks or back packs in the back. hardcases will be a real squeeze even if you use small trolley bags and you can't stow more than 2 (max3). as such if you plan to go on getaways to malaysia with seats all taken (incl. 3rd row), you might have to restrict to soft backpacks and haversacks. some passengers might have to lap their backs with them if trips are going to be further up north. however, with that being said; the middle row leg room is spacious and you can consider placing some bags in the middle row. also, there are small compartments beneath the last row seats which can stow additional small backpacks. it is still possible to strategise stowage of all bags and luggages even though it is a little inconvenience.

+affiliate resource, software reviews & tutorials I'm wondering if I can still fit a baby stroller/pram with the 3rd row seats enabled. Think it's possible but only for the very compact strollers. Will have to check out the boot in person.

you should be able to fit one small stroller that is fully folded. then again, I am not sure the actual size of your baby pram so; yes, its better you make a trip down to the dealership to test it out yourself. don't take my word for it..:)

Hey thanks for a good review. Is this the luxury or sport version? I understand sport version doesn't comes with real leather seats as well as the touch screen function

I am not sure what class (luxury or sports) but yes, it comes with leather seats.

been driving it close to 7 years now. One full tank = 950km. You can work out the km/litre part. its a 60L tank

Hey hi, just wanna check after driving for so Long, is there any maintainence issue I need to take note of (engine oil leakage and TOP up, repair works etc) except regular servicing?

Not anything specific. There is one time the change brake pad indicator that came on which require them to be changed. Knowing my driving style, I hardly step on the brakes or do last minute hard brakings to stop the car, so it came as a surprise that a brake pad change was required. I will monitor the next round when the indicator comes out to see if it's preset or based on how worn out the pads are.

Our servicing package n warranty ended recently. The experience was exceptional. Booking usually needs advance and available dates are about 2-3 weeks away from day calling in. They would usually sms 2000km prior to service date to remind you though. At day or servicing, fuss free. Drive in, park, register and service agent will meet & greet you. When it's ready, they will call you. I usually send to Alexander.

What if i had to travel to Malaysia example to Malacca or further up to Selangor, are we allow to pump diesel over there? Or only petrol is allow for Singaporean cars.?

in Malaysia, the diesel quality is only euro-4 compliant (if they have already implemented in 2015). in Singapore, it is euro-5. with the new BMW 216d, it is not advisable to top up in Malaysia since it might lead to clogging and other engine related problems. anyway, i think its better to top up full in Singapore before you head to Malacca. you can certainly make it there and back in a single tank of diesel with more than a quarter to spare (pessimistically) by the time you reach back home. fyi, so far we average around 850 - 900km on a full tank on mostly urban driving.

Still drives like a dream. The mileage still hasn't changed and the power is still there..when you need it of course. Still Loving it. No complains

It's dependent on the tyres you use. We replaced it with the original same type of tyres. Overall the noise level in the cabin is not any louder then when we first bought it.

@@Arthur-tf3ub I think it's ok. My door seals are a little old and need to be replaced soon but taking that into consideration, I think it's still quiet. Meaning I can't hear the engine sound compared to the noise in the cabin of other diesel engine cars.

TheTzuSun maybe but nevertheless it doesn’t feel like a typical 1.5L car. You got power when needed, cruising is smooth and effortless.

pinctinc yes it is. It doesn’t feel like a typical 1.5L car. It has power when you need it and on cruising is very comfortable. I have been driving for over two years now. With servicing and care, it still feels the same as we first bought it.

yan H, Yes. Yio Chu Kang to kallang and back everyday. For Weekends maybe Yio Chu Kang to Ang mo Kio and Seletar. We hardly go west or east which require highway driving.

Yes I am. Still giving me the same mileage since day one. About 900+ per full tank. My warranty and free servicing ended, so I take it to a 3rd party workshop.
