Grat video! Thanks guys. Im looking to buy a 320i 2010-2012 model and this video really gave me some good tips in regards to what I sgould be cheching before making a purchase.

The best upgrade I did on my 2011 323i was to replace the Continental run flats with Michelin Pilot Sports. Smoother ride, better grip, better handling, and slightly quieter. In case of a flat I’ve got a little plug-in tire pump to get me to a garage.

I have an 2012 E90 318i Sport Plus Edition with only 41500 miles on it...Full M pack minus brakes and engine but a fantastic car to drive and currently getting 39 mpg...Fitted a K&N filter in the airbox so the induction sounds great also...🙂👍

Glad i watched this before buying one. My old E36 was so straight forward to look after. Rather have a bit of rust on wheel arches than all the complex issues described. Dual mass fly wheels and poor quality cam chains/ tensioner fitted at the rear of the engine. Such a shame Beemers used to be special now built like kitchen white appliances.

Hi fellas, awesome review and the best one i've found on KZfaq 💪🏼👊🏼. I am just looking at a 2011 318i ES 3 series automatic. It has done 135k miles and its for sale @£2,225,00. 😎 and has FSH.. Heard they can go on for ever as you mentioned as long as it is maintained properly with FSH. Loved the fact you lads pointed out the pros and conns, Micheal cheers for going over the engine bay, bloody annoyed they have no dip stick and you went over in details with abs, tyres and wheels. Just wondering is the sports suspension standard on those. I have the Reg no for the one i'm looking at but not sure if I can post on here 🤷🏽‍♂️

I drive a 2011 320d efficiencies dynamics so nice to drive very economical the tax is cheap as anything keep it maintained and you shouldn’t have any trouble

I like it but DSC ABS pump issues (tap with hammer and reset codes) vanos solenoid problems, gasket leaks, had to replace diff, sunroof drains clogged, had to remove whole interior to get the water out, one of the cats needs to be replaced, DMTL pump went twice, had to do water pump and thermostat, starter went out, and did a lot of coolant maintenance, aftermarket rein upper coolant expansion line didn't fit well on new reservoir when the original one started leaking at the seam (genuine replacement, rein line connected with play). Put $600+ on new valve cover and gasket, did Oil Filter Housing Gasket along with VC change, TPMS sensor, rear driver wheel was bent, critter ran out in front of me in Nov 23' caused like $800 in damage. Also done transmission filter and fluid change along with shudder fix. That doesn't even mention the litany of minor fixes I have done. Drink holders, vapor barrier leaks, sunroof drains, resurfaced driver's window switch trim, replaced lower driver seat cushion, literally researched, found and ordered one of the missing driver door grommets, new front diff bushings (cause fk trying to do the big one after seeing how hard it was to get the front ones in) paint matched and repainted the INSIDE of the wheels only, new genuine wheel caps for old 3-peice design + sealed with rustoleum along the sides (weak points), have replacement cats behind me, done coils plugs, belt & tensioner, flushed power steering, new front back Zimmerman rotors and Akebono ceramic pads, oil changes every 4-5k, cabin filter, air filter, brake fluid flush, new front and back glass seals, ceramic wash sealing, and other constant upkeep make it a real chore to maintain without a garage. That and now I have to do my crank position sensor. You should not buy one of these cars without a scanner. If the car comes with one I you have it made.

I'm contemplating a 2005/6 E90 320i but as you know, since many years BMW's "recommended maintenance intervals" equate to institutionalised abuse...thus when shopping for a car here in Germany even if you get one with "full service history", the BEST you can hope for is a car which has roughly conformed to the recommended servicing, which means an oil change only every 2+ years/14,000 miles, no coolant or transmission fluid changes etc. Do you think it's realistically possible that if I buy a car with 120K miles which has undergone this treatment since birth and begin treating it well, that it can be acceptably reliable?

When the plastic guides and tensioners on the timing chain give up (thats a 'when', not an 'if'), it will cost more to fix than the car is worth. I had an e36 and and e46 before i bought an e90 and they were both amazingly reliable cars. The e90 was a gorgeous car and a dream to drive, but so unreliable it got that i was afraid to drive it.

I'm also thinking to get one I've seen two one is 2009 face-lift 318i with 93k miles and other 2008 preface lift 320i with 128k both manual, so what would you prefer out of both I mean both have different power 318i is 141bhp and 320i has 170, is clutch on these good when should they be changed and whats worse with these can happen.

I’m 18 and planning to buy my first car soon, and I’ve been contemplating between the 2008 Acura TL and the 3 series. I want something reliable to drive everyday but I want to spend around 5-6,000 for a car without compromising on quality too much. Is there a car you’d recommend for the best bang for my buck?

Do you know if your car has had any injectors, coil packs or a timing chain replacement?

I’m 22, on a 3k budget or so. I was thinking of a Lexus Is 250 / GS 250 or 3 series bmw. I would like reliability but I would prefer a bmw. When you state ‘if you maintain the car.’ Does that mean servicing once you purchase and service once a year? + oil change for the winter?

Hi, i bought this without much research, 2012 registration,N 47 Engine, 2 L diesel automatic 318, 75000 miles, engine light came on my first day of going work, after buying did went research timing chain is big problem in this car, My local garage person out diagnostic it came with ecu fault,abs, i checked the past papers, they have done few times calipers,abs sensor, my garage persons cleared all codes, i strated to drive no engine light flashing, drives fine, when i turn i can hear few squeaking sounds. I am going to change engine oil( not changed last two years)and diesel filter coming friday, anthing to be changed. How to protect timing chain?

interior is solid? no bangs or rattles? any E body owner knows how far from the truth this is. Depending on how anal you are about noises in the cabin you may or may not notice.

the N43 318i petrol engine is a ‘pretty good engine’ ? Hmm…i don’t think so, it was Watchdog once and is plagued by issues. Timing chain and plastic guides snapping and blocking the oil pickup, injectors, vacuum sensors, coil packs, Nox sensors, VANOS solenoids - the list go on and on. If you have a FSH then great but otherwise avoid avoid avoid.
