In the final part of this video I put the E90 back together, fill it with oil and run it to check for leaks.

You can use zip ties to hold the gasket in place until the corner bolts are in. That saves a lot of time and works every time I do it

Nicely done. I have done 3 or 4 of these now and every oil level sensor cap was broken and or very brittle. Wouldn't it be nice if someone just made the cap?? 5 series cars are similar, but the rack needs to come down as the sub frame is enclosed around it on one side. Thanks for posting this!

@@themechanic2.060 How much does the oil sensor cost ? Given it's placement I'm surprised it's not prone to leaking. After watching your video I'm having my mechanic replace the grounding strap and the oil sensor on my 2011. Thanks

Maybe I missed it, but did you reinstall the new ground strap? I suppose that you must have, or it wouldn't have started. 😃Also, what was the difference in price between a BMW or OEM gasket and the one that you purchased?

Yes, I show in the video the new ground strap installed. The price difference is about 60 bucks BMW and 15 for aftermarket. Same quality. Big price difference. Thanks for subscribing! And for your comment. Thank you.

Did you use different oil for front differential?

Yes I used 75W-140 synthetic.

Typically do you need an alignment after the gasket change on these x drive models?

How much does this job usually cost? I’ve got a 2011 328xi that is leaking pretty bad and I’m wondering if it’s worth fixing.

Make sure it’s diagnosed properly. These engines are reliable, but after some time and high mileage are prone to not only oil pan gasket leaks but rear main seal leaks as well. Which is more expensive than oil pan gasket replacement. If you’re oil pan gasket is the culprit, then it’s definitely worth fixing providing the rest of the car is in good shape. Pan gasket replacement varies between 1000 to 1700 depending on labor rates and miscellaneous parts needed.

@@themechanic2.060 I'm having this job done on my 2011...................$2700 at the indy mech, dealer wanted $4k..............INDY give a 2 year 24k warranty............car has 78K miles, already replaced the valve cover gasket around 55K
