BMW asked me to test their F900 GS Enduro

Time to drop some truth bombs on BMW's new Adventure bike, the F900 GS Enduro.
I'm becoming more and more selective with the bikes I ride and feature on my KZfaq channel. Observing the rate of new models flooding the market, where upstart ADV manufacturers are pitching new models against long established offroad brands seems a very fickle scenario.
Anyway, respect to BMW for sending their bike to my farm.

Most use their bikes on the roads. A big boxer BMW is in fact very fun and capable bike on the pavement. Can do well on the racetrack and still go offroad if one wishes.

If you consider what was in this video “off road” then 🤣😂🤡 flat dirt road is not offroad. Get a dual sport or enduro for proper offroad. Adventure bikes suck offroad.

Hopefully eventually all that chaff will filter out and leave guys like Adam - ride the bike or shut up. Don't even waste time with those people reading release notes - I mean lawd, we can all read also but then again people must 'work their viewership'; its all nonsense. Another thing, there's something uncompromizing in Adams character; you know he's not gonna bullshit you. Love that he told them their previous bike was shite!

Last year i was between this and the World Raid, but as soon as i realized the tank on this bike holds only 14L yet it weights 13kg more than the T7WR, i went with the WR. Plus this is filled with electronics, which i prefer not to have. Lately i also developed a serious case of mistrusting BMWs reliability. Plus the WR was a bit cheaper too, so no brainer there. Now, after 20+ years riding, 50+ owned motorcycles, i can confidently say that the T7WR might just be one of the best bikes ever made. Its almost like they took the recepie of the original 750 Africa Twin and said "ok, lets just make a new one of those, but with fuel injection and abs brakes", cuz everything else is pretty much the same. Same susp travel, same tank size, same weight, similar proportions, similar engine size/power/characteristic, etc. The T7WR is pretty much a new age 750AT, and i absolutely adore it. Never selling that bike, cant recommend it enough.
@Skiamakhos
@Skiamakhos Ай бұрын
Ah, there's the catch. I looked at the size of the engine, and the power & torque, & thought "That's an Africa Twin but 16kg lighter!" But really it's only lighter because it's carrying a load less fuel. 🤔
@chrisvantassel8867
@chrisvantassel8867 Ай бұрын
I ended up with a Desert X, it seemed like the DX is exactly what all T7 owners wish a standard T7 was in terms of features etc. I would have given the T7WR a serious consideration but alas, Yamaha sucks and do not offer the T7WR in the USA. In the end the DX is amazing but I upgraded the suspension to Tractive and now it is almost untouchable and that is said with caution because I also own an 890 Rally. The DX is amazing offroad and almost even better on road. I owned my last BMW (2021- R1250GS) I don't think this new BMW will be as sought after as the T7 variants, 890's or DX's but you never know. I would love to see Adam give the new DX Rally a good thrashing. Maybe one day Yamaha will wake up.....;-)
@Driftuner
@Driftuner Ай бұрын
@@chrisvantassel8867 yeah i dont know why they dont export the WRs to the US. I was talking to someone over at Yamaha and he said, tho not confirmed, that the WR variants should came to the US as soon as production numbers meet the high demand. They are barely keeping up with european and asian/oceania demands, imagine trying to keep up with the US demands as well, nearly impossible for them right now. The DX is reeeeally nice as well, always wanted to take one for a spin

14l tank on a 900 adv is plainly unacceptable. T7 got that bit right with good mpg and 23l tank.
@Driftuner
@Driftuner Ай бұрын
@@chipsnpeasifuplz the range on the WR is insane. Yamaha claims up to 500km range and let me tell you, they are being very humble with that claim. On normal riding conditions (no offroad) with me as the rider (1,84m, 90kg) and a backpack (about 12kg), ive done about 620km on one tank, and i recon i could have kept on riding a bit more since i drove to the gas station before the engine starved...

Great (first part) review Adam (love the channel by the way). I'm getting back into motorcycles after a long long long break and wanted something to adventure on - i liked the idea of being part of organised rides and the BM GS stuff was looking like a great place to start and get involved - and then late last year i saw this machine being lobbed into the market - so things aligned and now i have one of these (in fact the exact model) - have just run in for its 1000km over the last few weeks and now its on it way in a truck to Sydney to start the 2024 GS Safari later this month. Getting those 1000km on it was important for me to get use to riding again !!! i've been watching lots of your tips on off-road work over the last few months - its really inspiring stuff and i almost couldn't believe my eyes when i saw you riding this bike and showing what is possible (over time with lots of practice, clearly) .... obviously no bike is perfect (even though the T7 your are modding is getting close right) .... looking forward to part 2 when you tweak a few things with those front shocks .. its certainly taking things in the right direction for mid weight adventure type bikes anyway - which i think is great by opening up different options for different folks ...

When it comes to interface think about it as a 3 levels. You switch between levels using menu button up and down, then left and right on specific leven is when you move wheel left and right and to set something you are rolling the wheel :) best interface on the market in my opinion. I've got a 1250GS and T7 in the stable, and they are both very capable, but different tools, designed for different jobs. Hard to even consider adding a 900GS in between them, or to swap the 900GS for the T7 ...I'm not feeling it. Besides that 900GS is nowhere near as intoxicating as an uncorked T7 with a full titanium exhaust system. Nowhere near.

Just recently I took this bike on 2-day BMW enduro training and fell in love with the bike. Feels lighter and easier on slow technical stuff, compared to top heavy T7. Easier as the seat height is a bit lower. Loved the ergonomics of the handlebar, brakes and clutch and the predictability of the brakes. Rear brake gets bent constantly and rear pegs need to go as the clip your boot constantly. The engine - chinese made - sounds rattly and loose. T7 wins here for me. But overall bike feels like home to me. If only it wouldn’t be so damn expensive. If you could throw some comparison to T7 in your opinion; ergonomics, weight, center of gravity, it would be greatly appreciated.

Just so good to watch and listen to, as usual. I find it difficult to 'leap' over fallen trees, bodies etc, so just pick up my C50 and carry it over obstacles. No need for massive amounts of power or sanity. Would the 900 be comfy over distance? My skeletal arse gets sore at distances over 2 miles so it's so important. Also Rosacea Red would be a great colour config. Just nice to match the face to the bike. Thanks Adam for all that you do. When I get out I'll do a catch up. If you could send me your address/bank details I 'll make a deposit.

Still not lean enough for adv enthusiasts like me to even consider, but have to admit its first time i see bmw going into right direction in adv world and that deserve credit. This got my attention but to get my interest we need at minimum 230mm+ KYB/WP fully adjusted legs and under 205kg with full tank. Power and features are there for sure 👍🏿

Now let's see 600-700 version with 80hp+ and above specs, like Tuareg and we would have another, third candidate for 🦄 after kove800x and Tuareg ;]

Great videos, amazing videography and tehcnical content. How do you compare it to the Tenere 700, more expensive gets you more bike?

Good shit. Let's go deep with suspension in next ones, that's almost always the most neglected part in reviews

How does it compare to the T7? (considering power isn't a issue since you can't use full power of both of the bikes offroad)

THX for this honest testing. BMW is one of the big players and usually test run in their favour. Thius is why your judegment is very wellcome, especially on this bike ;-)

When you passed by on Rhino, it sounded like WRC mode.

good looking bike and rides good. Well done. Ive ridden the gs800 and it is cumbersome but the engine is nice paired with an akro. decent for dirt roads and tarmac.

Fantastic....I can't wait for Pt. 2......I own the Rhino (1250 GSA) but when I saw BMW came out with this I started to consider it just from the weight standpoint alone. SO SO happy that BMW invited you to do this and you excepted. You are one of, if not the most straight forward REAL experts speaking on and giving advise and insights on KZfaq. Keep all the content coming.....@stanforadventure

I think the bmw f900gs is a good bike, rode mates and it impressed me, so much it impressed me I'm thinking about trading my 23 plate Desert X, 100 percent T7 killer and it will knock the desert x down the list as will it do the same to the 890 ktms in my opinion, its got firm and sporty feeling on road and suspension alot firmer than my desert X, very smooth quick shifter and strong brakes , it got great electronics package, very comfy and a mx feel to it, once the 3rd party stuff is avaliable it be a great offroad adv bike... 14.5 liter tank not great but 56-57 miles to gallon is good, not fussed on the 17 inch rear wheel as it does limit tyre choice for offroad riding but id deffo get one if i was looking for a bike right now ..
