BMW Z4 owner (E85) here. I twice had the engine cranking without starting and the solution was super simple. I disconnected and reconnected the car battery and the problem was fixed. The more computerized the cars become the more susceptible the electronics to locking up or freezing (think about your cell phones for instance), hitting a "reset" button can work wonders sometimes.

you can tell it was the computer because u dont get a RPM signal when cranking at 1:05. changed the fuse then the RPM on cranking shows now 6:30

Appreciate your work and details on the diagnostic but if you crank a vehicle and the tachometer needle wont move a single bit as this one was since the beginning, you most likely have a crankshaft signal missing, most vehicle cant start without this value

I got the same cranking noise and the car didnt start. (on an E90). I replaced the battrey which was leaking and not holding the charge. Then I checked the fuel pump fuse and it was burnt. I replaced it and I am back on the road again. Thanks!

I have a BMW X5 2008 , it cranks but wont start. Fuel pump is working for sure I checked the pressure at fuel rails. The error numbers detected by the scanner are A0B3 CAS starter motor terminal 50 and from DME 2EFE fan activated, 2F44 orevent manipulation, I think because I removed some sensors at the engine compartment. Do you have an idea what could be the problem? thanx

Hello and thank you for great videos. Do you have any idea why is my fuel pump on E61 525d priming for 1 minute when the key is on 2nd position? The problem is that the car isnt pumping the fuel back to the right side of the tank, all the fuel gets over to the left side and the fuel pump ends up dry. I already replaced the fuel pump but it didnt help. Thank you.

I have this problem on my x3 m sport... Same noise, if I keep trying it normally starts eventually... Sometimes 3/4 turns others multiple tries for 5 mins or so. It's fine when driving about just can't turn it off to pop to the shops ect so is a right pain. Mechanic has looked at it and can't figure the problem out. Any ideas?

Hi Help needed please 2006 BMW x5 e53 3.0 d No start I have found no power to fuel pump under the floor next to fuel filter, if it’s not pumping it will not allow fuel to pass through to the engine ( replaced tank pump and have a new under floor pump to put in but need to know where to look for wiring fault ( which fuse/ relay it is ) Same colour code as pump in the tank - brown + white with green tracer. You said all BMW? How about an x6 BMW active hybrid? It won’t go on ready. I charged up the hybrid battery to 40% and it cranks the engine but it won’t fire then the car disable cranking all together and throws hybrid powertrain code. I have to wait a while before it allows me to crank again

I have a 2005 318ci. It sometimes starts, sometimes doesn't. When it does fire, it tends to fire first time. It tends to be morning when it doesn't start when it is cold. What can I eliminate from this list of checks? When it fails to start, it generally manages to fire briefly but dies before managing to reach a steady idle. Surely the fuel pump must be ok right? I am thinking of using a fuel injector cleaner and change the fuel filter in any case. Will work through this list of checks but any other hints/tips based on the above specifics would be gratefully received!

Problem with my car is when I turn the key, the abs light is on but the dash gas level or cooling temp or even miles don't show up.. the fuse is not blown, already checked.. and well car cranks but won't start.

Hi. I have an e60 523i 2008. There's Crank but no start. No engine management light comes on when ignition is turned on. Upon cranking the rpm doesn't move above 200rpm. I'm getting fuel but there's no spark. I even sent the computer box, cas module and key for testing. No fault was found. Car is standing for 1 month now. Any help would do. Hello I have same problem X5 2001 e53 3.0. I changed battery and drove. Then after removing car keys the ventilation was working! So reading on internet I learned it's faulty final stage resistor. They said remove the fuse 50a for blower. Now the car cranks no start. Fuel pump I verified is working and pressure is good. I did not disconnect battery when removing the blower fuse. I heard spark when removing slowly the blower fuse as blower was working. Now right after crank no start. Car was driving fine before. How do I find what happened? I have not verified engine fuses only.

I would check battery first before checking fuel pump. First, make sure battery connectors are tight and free of corrosion. Use a miltimeter or battery tester to check battery voltage and CCA to see if the battery is even good in the first place. Then, I would check fuse(s) and relays, etc. Great video though!

Hello. Thank you for your videos. I have a 2007 manual BMW e60 520d with an N47D20A engine 130KW, 177HP. I live in UK near Birmingham. Last month I changed the timing chain as a precaution as it hasn't been changed in the last 5 years and it had more than 200,000 Km with it. I also changed the reluctor and the crankshaft sensor, the glow plugs, the intake manifold, the temperature sensor before the catalytic converter, Lambda sensor, two injectors, the HPFP and the LPFP were changed 18 months ago together with the relay. All the fuses are OK (those in the engine bay, in the glove compartment and in the boot), I checked all the wires for continuity, scanned the car with ISTA-P, no relevant errors. After I changed the timing chain, the car started fine, I had a 500 km trip while the car drove excellent. The next day I was unable to start the car, no matter what I've tried. I charged the battery, I checked everything, changed the reluctor and the crankshaft sensor, but the car still won't start. All the connectors are in place, all the wires have continuity, all the fuses are OK, the car cranks but it won't start. There are some issues which started after I put the engine back: 1. The car won't crank more than 3 times when I press the button. Before, when I pressed the start/stop button, the car will crank as long as I keep pressed on the button. 2. The car won't show me when to change the gear when I was driving. 3. I had two new errors on the scanner which I never had before: P0335 - Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit and 3E90 - Crankshaft RPM - No signal. These errors dissappeared once I changed the reluctor and the crankshaft sensor. 4. One of those 20A fuses in the engine compartment was fried. I put another 20A fuse, it fried again. Then I used a 25A fuse and it was OK. The fuse is the second in the 5 fuses which are there, which according to this video is dealing with the crankshaft sensor. This sensor was replaced. 5. The LPFP is priming (I can hear it working once I plug the key). When I crank, there is fuel going to the injector (I unscrewed the connector and is leaking diesel with pressure when I crank). But, when I removed the injectors, they were all dry, as in completely dry, like the injectors won't open to allow the fuel to go through. Is there a relay in this car which controls the injectors? Would you please let me know where it is? What is your opinion about this? Why the car won't start? What else I should check? Thank you for what you are doing.

Hi, i need help with my car problem, the problem is my car crank but won't start, i checked injector signal, there's no signal, i checked ignition coil, there's also no signal, then i checked all fuse and relay, there's no fault. After that i checked all the wiring on engine, there's no problem with the wire harness, lastly i checked the ecm/ecu, i bring it to ecu repair shop they checked no faulty and i pay charge for checking usd60, after that, i try to start again, its still won't start, then i bring the ecm/ecu again to the bmw agent for checking with charge usd100, they also said there's no faulty with the ecu/ecm. I checked the fuel pump its working, i checked the pressure of fuelpump its working perfect. I checked the immobiliser, also no problem, Im still wondering with the problem and why my ignition coil and injector no power and no signal. My bmw Z4 worked fine then when I got home it sat for like a few hrs went to got to the store and nothing. Just cranked. All fuses and relays r fine.

1995 E36 318i cranks but sounds like it's not engaging, turning over fast. Fuel pump is active and double checked with starting fluid. Still no start. Fuses checked. Ran fine and immediately died during a drive, no warning. As the crank sensor is an expensive part, is there a simple way to tell if it MIGHT be the timing chain? Worse problem but I'd rather not have to spend money for parts not needed. Any direction would be appreciated as I'm an old guy and just need some direction to "protect" myself from less than reputable mechanics. Thanks!

My 535i has stalled 2 times and stopped and doesn't start.. i screen tells me its fuel pump ... but it will start after waiting 30 minutes or more ... they have checked for codes and nothing.. it happened again and about 40 minutes later without the key I heard the fuel pump on ... the sound was around the engine area as I was sitting in driver seat ... after I heard the fuel pump ... i tried starting and it started up right away... any idea what it can be..?? This issue was already happening prior to these fixes but seems to be getting worse. Hi I been trying to fix my BMW 316i Petrol Auto. MFR Sep 2004. Its a car i bought this car about 2 months ago, i am based in London. When the car is warm it runs but having hard time to get this started. When i start for the 1st time every morning the car starts but after few seconds it get switched off straight away. This car was in the car garage for more than 6 weeks and i just took it back as he could not figure why this causing the cold start issues. However he had changed the Voltronic Motor but the issue still present. RAC - said the battery is dead and i replaced with the new one gave the error codes as 2A70 (Intermitten), 2A63 (Intermitten), 29CC (Permanent) and 29CE (Permanent). After spending hours and hours looking at various video about trouble shoot, decided to look into DISA Valve & Idle Control Valve but went to fix it my self but this is not on my car. I have throttle valve or butterfly valve, did little bit of cleaning on that but still no luck. I change all 4 sparks plug, still the same problem, i am getting some fuses and 2 new BOSCH coil pack as i think one is really bad and need this change. I am not a mechanic but i must say i have learned so much about this issues now by looking at various videos, thank you all. Question: does this car has DISA or ICV, where does the fuel pump relay is located on this car? Are there any fuses i should check, can the DME cause this issues ? Can anyone please help me to diagnose this issues to have this drive again.
