Had the same car with a 5 speed manual, and it goes pretty well, and its pretty good on fuel aswell. Its one of the best balanced engines. Its far from the v8 though, that has pure grunt. For a daily 7 series i would still choose this over any other

my 728i will sit all night at 140mph it will go more but i dont trust the tyres after 140 ,mph .and its done 168000 miles and as quiete as a mouse . fully serviced .

nice video, I m keeping a 1996 728 M52 single vanos, never drive it past 140 kmh, I m just glad it's still running smooth , always ready for city driving and between cities :)

@@1964Orzel it s hard to tell cos traffic is bad in my country , but i ws on a roadtrip freeway about 500 km one way i got 10 km / liter. Speed 80 - 120 kmh. May not be impressive but the engine is smooth and iddling is stable. I once converted my 07 Camry with LPG was smooth also but LPG price rose only 3 months after installation 🤣

Es ist auch ein Irrtum, wenn man meint, der 728i sei "lahm", wie so oft behauptet. Was ihm halt etwas fehlt, ist Souveränität bzw. Durchzugsvermögen. Wenn man zügig vorwärts kommen will, müssen minimum 4000 Touren anliegen. Dann geht es aber halbwegs flott voran - absolut ausreichend und weit weg von Verkehrshindernis. Ab 4000 merkt man richtig, wie der Motor aufwacht. Und da die R6 Maschine schön vibrationsarm läuft, macht es auch Spaß zu drehen.

@@frotttiopm8668 Man wirft ihn nur vor lahm zu sein weil er der kleinste Motor im 7er ist. In einem 5er findet ihn jeder dann plötzlich gut und der M52b20 ist dann der langsame. In einem 3 wäre er jetzt aber der schnelle. Leute denken es sei alles schlecht was unten in der hierarchie ist.

Der 7er wiegt halt einiges mehr als ein 3er, meiner Meinung nach ist der 728i untermotorisiert!

@@RaYmZzz ich fahr beides... E36 328i und seit letzter Woche auch 728i Individual - klar ist es nich der Traummotor im 7er aber ich finde ihn jetzt nicht so brutal scheisse wie hier jeder andere - lieber reparier ich an nem 728i was als an nem 740i z.B. und wenn ich schnell fahren will dann nimm ich den 3er ! ;)

The description is wrong. The 728i automatic is claimed to do 0-100 in 9.6 seconds , not 8.6 - that's the time for the manual transmission 728i

kerb weight is actually 1670 kg , and 725tds has 1710kg - actually very light car for those dimensions with no aluminium in the body. put some sport springs on it and good tires and you have a very sporty full-size sedan

@@alig.20 Comparing my own a 725tds that I have lowered on stiff sport springs along side a set of wide sport tyres with my previous car Audi A8 D3 that weighted around the same(3.0i 220hp 1670kg kerb weight) but had that full space frame aluminium body I can tell you that both are flexing quite a bit when you start pushing them, but they are soft and offer a comfortable ride and that I wouldn't change. You can add a strut bar in the engine bay and solve your flex, but the purpose of an e38 is not to get on a track.... For someone like me that loves big german sedans the E38 is perfect because of the precise steering and good feedback, something I didn't have with the A8 d3 or the w220 S class.

if u from Europe..buy one fast before be too late i watch one ...like 1 year ago..was 3400 euros 2 months later 3900. today same car stay on same car house and cost 5900 euros...5 years and they wil lbe old timers....gonna cost even more..at least in EU./.trust me

Well, there are certainly different opinions. But the 728i (M52TU) is certainly one of the most stable engines at e38.

The M52 non TU engine is better than TU. No double vanos, no header cats (they always break some day...expensive!), no drive by wire, no DISA. The only advantage of the facelift E38 728 is the 5hp19 automatic instead of the older 5hp18

@@tjallaballa 725tds had often problems with cracks in cylinder head...! And 140hp is definately not enough for that heavy car imho. 200hp is minimum amount of power for this car to drive properly

This gauge in BMW is fairly inaccurate at changing loads. It is based on vacuum.

No matter how you drive this thing, the most it can do is 12-13L/100km. With a manual 728i i did once 6,2L/100km, tempomat, 120km/h, constant on the autobahn. There is no other engine available in the 7series what could replicate that, not even close. The 40i can do 10,5L/100km 😃

@@ThePeca1988 At 120 kmh, manual drive or not, on you would definitely be ways above 7 liters, and something above 8 liters. My best run ever was 6,5 liters, but this was on Bundestrassen (so nothing more than 80 - 90 kmh), over 300 km. My car is a manual 728i, 2001 mounted with 215 65 R16 tires, which I have owned now for over 200000 km, so for sure I know what I am discussing about. Definitely the M52 (TU or not) is a fantastic motor, but not a diesel and its accompanying high mpg. Best,

@@TheMuston we could argue, but i was there, crossing europe painfully slow in a 7series. Maybe its impossible on a 2001 model, but absolutely doable on a 96. There is about a 300kg difference between the two in curb weight.

For daily use my 728i is more than perfect....i have a 740iL and i drove it daily but is a litle thirsty for the city.....🤔🙄so daily the 728i 😁

@NINE - T - EIGHT also mit einem Opel Omega B mit gerade mal 4 Gängen Automatikgetriebe 2.0 16v und 136PS, habe ich auch höhere Geschwindigkeiten geschafft...
