YOU ARE 100% RIGHT! I had the AC modul button resistor fail few years ago on my E39, and I changed the whole AC modul panel with an used one. Worked great. Same thing again happened to me recently! AC button does light up but it doesn't power the compressor. When redirecting current to compressor clutch it works absolutely perfect! Time for NEW PANEL obviously. Always check these steps before throwing money all over the place guys! Great video!

A Great Video. Lots of information to learn. Many thanks.... I do have an unusual AC Question. On my 2006 X5 3.0, the AC Compressor's Coil/Clutch fails to engage for the first 8 - 10 minutes. Afterwards in runs flawlessly! Not sure what to tackle first...Replace the compressor's Coil?, High Pressure switch? or the climate control module? Thanks in advance

On my car the clutch engages fine when I turn my ac on from inside. I checked and my system has Freon and pressure is good however I don’t get cold air. Do you know what could be the problem?

You did a good job but it needed more accuracy. You could hold a pointer and point to the switches you talked about instead of using you finger which did not allow us to really identify the part and the exact location of the part you were talking about . Especially the fourth problem. A better illustration should have done even though the diagnostics were Profesional.

Hi mate, great vid! I've got an E46 318i and my car gets cool with the airconditioning. But when it's running stationary, the ac clutch goes in and out, so sometimes spinning on the belt, is this normal? Also the fan on the engine side, kept running on a hot day, even when I turned off my car, it drained my battery. I took the fan connector (the one with the 3 poles and cables) off and put it back again, the fan stopped and hasn't been running since. Also I can't feel difference between 22 or 19 degrees setting, both very cold, after 20-30min of driving, the temperature in the car rises due to switching off the blowers or something, I have to put them on full blast and after a while, cold air is supplied again. Do you think this is just the hvac panel or a combination of things you explained, like temp probe sensor? Sorry for the long post, but I think you are the only one skilled enough to solve this. Very good tutorial! Ok, in my case I have no freon I can confirm that. My car is e39. My electric fan is also not enganging at all. I know it's working because I have tested it with a scanning tool and at least I know some part of the circuit is working as the fan starts spinning on running it throught the test on the scanner. Am I doing something dangerous not stocking up on freon with regards to my ac compressor. I dont think m52b20 have electric ac compressor protection like in the video. thank you

I have an 07 X5 with an AC issue that I'm trying to narrow down. I believe it could be the blower resistor would love your thoughts. The AC turns on and does cool the car over time but the vents make a lot of blowing noise and very little air actually comes out. One odd thing I noticed is that while it's blowing on max, and I press the defroster button, I hear it changing the vents direction and for a moment between its transition, I feel it blow out since cold pressured air from the vents just before it switches completely over to defroster. This makes me think the vents are pointing in the wrong direction or something. What's your thoughts on this?

hey Mr BMW doc, my 2007 bmw x5 ac stopped blowing cold ? i refilled the freon and shows full per gage of bottle! it blows hot air and i'm in Arizona USA.. i did see and have seen some green fluid leak in the past that looked similar to the freon that spilled from the fill up low valve ? i'm wondering if it is the Evaporator Temp Sensor as you said how can i trouble shoot this ? as i'm low on funds ? thanks Doc

I have repaired a few HVAC panels with no comebacks however...I'm now working on my sisters BMW X5 E53 and there's a big current drain on her battery...it just dies overnight and needs to be charged up every morning...I haven't even started the diagnoses yet as was so busy this past while but she told me her air con never worked and her back number plate light needs replaced as it's badly corroded. I'd say it's her aircon that is causing the big drain on her battery rather than her number plate lights. your video has given me some good tips on what to check. I'm guessing the ECU isnt shutting down/going to sleep because it senses the fault in the air con and keeping the rest of the electrics/electronics awake draining the battery. Let you know how I get on.

Your video is very professional . Awesome . Now I have the same problem but. In my car sometimes works by itself and I check the Freon pressure in the sistem. It’s ok . Now my question is? I understand like a electronics or work doesn’t work right . If my control AC panel works sometimes. Do you have other tests or some clues about my ac problem ??

I Noticed my A/C (2006 BMW X5 4.4 L E53) started to NOT cool or chill over a five to 6 day period. It got to a lace where the outdoor temperature had reached 98 (105 with humidity). I started by checking the freon level which seemed to be just fine. That left me to be sure that my internal temperature and vent settings were set accurately for cooling. I checked and they all were set properly. Later today, I drove the truck out to run some errands and my mind was telling to check the freon level again. So, I did, and it turned out that the freon level was really low. Im thinking that because I use off street parking on a uneven street (vehicle leans to the left when parked), that this may have caused an incorrect reading as the refrigerant (already low) might have moved to one side. Long story short, I ended using 1, and 1/2 cans of 120z 134a refrigerant and it began to blow cold in all vents. I will be monitoring it over the next few days to be sure that there no other issues or leaks. Hopefully this will help someone with same issue or like problem.

Hey Dean my 02 330i keeps blowing the fuse for the a/c the panel goes dead I replace the fuse when I press the a/c button the fuse blows . Today I tired to fix it and now the fuse blows as soon as I start the car . I unplug the radio as well to see if that was a problem

watch all your youtube vids just a question on the HVAC ..replaced heater valve and also AUC but they will not code out using INPA and also PAsoft also have a parasitic draw and believe the HVAC may be the problem 10 years ago was replaced but not the same part number ...any advice ..are all HVAC climate modules the same for 2002/2006

Man my wife has an 05 X5 diesel, air con works intermittently as all hell although it’s better on cooler days but still not consistent. A/C mechanic checked it out, they couldn’t find any leaks, said it was a little low on gas but not so low it shouldn’t have worked.. so they refilled it with gas, worked great for a while and now it’s back to hardly working.. Just tried the hvac panel out of my 99 e39, didn’t make a difference although the only difference between the 2 is that the a/c max button in the E53 is the “rest” button in the E39, everything else operated as normal. Hoping I can figure this one out with your other tips!

Question when you replace the unit does the exact part number need to be matched l? I bought one off eBay exact same buttons and interface only the part number isn’t exactly matching the old unit! Will that cause AC Compressor not to turn on?

Question, is it normal when the AC Clutch is engaged along the AC is running without being interupted? As common car, the AC clutch is engage - disengage alternatively along it operates. Please advise & thanks

Would the fuses have anything to do as to why the ac isnt working?

He mate my problem was that the climate control worked perfect expert for the airco, so i bough a tested oned (from a trusted site i now them for a lot of years and good prices and the pretest everything they sell) So installed the new unit and all seemed ok but now the blower motor does nothing, al the buttons work fine but my question is can you just change these units or do you need to program them in ihka or other beemer coding software? thanx in advance and for making these vid's the help me and many people. greetings form the netherlands 🤛

Hi there,great video and explanation! I have an e46 325Ci..my interior fan and air-con doesn't work. The climate control dials come on but no air comes out of the vents on low-full setting. The fuses look ok (28 & 50 fuses). No fault lights on dash. It stopped working a while back then after a day or 2 worked again. What do you think it could be? I've been told it could be the heater blower motor or heater blower resistor..both look tricky to replace.

One correction, if the cooling fan stops working it absolutely will stop your ac when it over heats. You will notice this when you come to a stop light ac compressor stops then after you take off it condenser cools off compressor starts working again. Replace the cooling fan problem solved this is from experience.

I have a problem with my automatic climate Unit. When it’s really hot outside, I have perfect cooled air coming through the body vents, but hot air coming to the feet’s and window. ( in automatic mode ) What could be wrong ?

Does anyone have a chart of what the psi should be based on ambient temp? I’m in Arizona and it’s 105° outside at night even and my system shows 45 psi on the low side. 45 psi seems high to me but it could be because the ambient temp is so hot outside. Regardless the issue that I actually having is the driver side is colder than the passenger side which I know is a common symptom of low refrigerant but I don’t wanna overfill my system.

if your AC pressure switch will not allow your compressor to come on unless there is enough pressurized gas, then how do you get enough gas in an empty system to get the switch to turn on the compressor in the first place? Is there enough pressure in the can by itself?

What about the mag clutch are they shimmed? Had one car that was shimmed a got a shim kit then put a smaller shim in and it fixed it.

Awesome video man. Here are my symptoms: Electric fan and compressor do not come on when turning the AC on. Electric fan does not come on AT ALL while driving. My gauge cluster also does not come on (No gauges work, no OBC lights). However, I can manually activate them both via INPA and the car blows ice cold AC. That means my system has sufficient refrigerant and my fan AND compressor work, which leads me to believe it's one of the sensor. Any ideas on what it could be?

Blinking defroster. Does it have to be coded or something like that when you fit new HVAC unit to your car?

I have a 2013 f10 n55 and I am having a code ‘ can interface in stopped mode ‘ and I have checked the pressure sensor and the breather sensor for the auto mode (in the ecu chamber ) and I don’t get hot or cold air? I’ve tried to add A/C to the low side using a can but there is no vacuum and the gauge stays red on the gauge. When I press the max A/C button I hear a click of the relay but there is still absolutely no vacuum at the low side fill port. I’ve been told it could be the dash vent Hot/cold wheel ? I’m out of ideas ? I replaced the pressure sensor on the low side and lost all AC in the process but still did not get vacuum to pull from the low side? Using Beamer code and Beamer link I’ve noticed that the write is failing to the AC system on PATT_Module and I keep getting a yellow dot next to the AC section each time I go back to recode. In Beamer link I just get the Nvm_ failure code and the CAN Interface in stopped mode. Im lost at the point of throwing parts at this and don’t want to , Im British but live in Texas and it’s now a major issue . I think the main give away is no hot or cold . If it does turn out to be the ‘ vent wheel ‘ I mean? Does the vent wheel send signal to the Compressor? PLEASE SHINE ME A LiGHT mate if you got any ideas? Thanks

What could be wrong if your AC lines are empty and when you do a vacuum and try to put Freon it doesn’t take it? I disconnected the hoses and there’s nothing blocking the lines. I also replaced the expansion valve and the compressor. Still doesn’t take the Freon charge. What could it be the problem?

Hi I bro just wondering i have the same problem with my bmw x5 2002 my aircon and my stereo system was working at time before my machanicdid a full service and changed radiator Reserve bottle and replaced the rocker cover after it was all done I didn't realise that my aircon and stereo system was not working at all . All the lights on stereo and aircon are all on but here's anything happening no sound or blowing any kind of air just nothing it's been about 5 months now still the same bout now and again the aircon would turn on it would work fully until I turn the off but go turn the car back on the dose again it's done that about 6× now can PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM

I have a problem with my E46 A/C. And i checked the second thing pulling off the fan switch, when i disconnect it with the car running the fan starts turning when i push it back it stops turning. Does that mean the fan switch is broken?

All of the above are checked on mine + bought a brand new Mahle 3 pin fan. The fan is still not working. Got diagnosed by a local shop to have a faulty PWM signal coming from my DME. The car is 2001 525d. Have you ever heard of such case?

I just had my thermostat replaced because I had all the symptoms of a stuck-open thermostat. it worked fine for a week, but now my car is again running too cool (won't go up to the 12 o clock mark) on the highway and open roads. It only gets up to temp if I stop after driving around or in the city. What could the culprit be?

how about this . on my E53 the A/C doesnt kicks in when i start the car and it only kicks in when my temp reach the middle.temperature and when you stop the engine and start it after 15 minutes it wont kick on again and then i have to rev it from 2nd upt to third gear and t will kick in again..what part do i need to check. pls advise. I feel like on my car the AC clutch itself failed. I can´t get it to engadge even when I put 12V directly to the connector. Funny thing is, the pulley itself isn´t sold seperatly. You have to get the whole compressor (:

Howzit guys. Just had my e39 regas. Started blowing ice cold. 10 mins later. Nothing. Switched the car off for 5 mins when I switched it back the car was blowing ice cold again. Only for it to stop 10 mins later. Any suggestions. I live in Africa so it damn hot. Thanx
