Күн бұрын

How to do the subframe reinforcements on a BMW E46 M3. We install Condor Speed Shop's e46 m3 subframe reinforcements on a 2005 BMW M3, followed by Condor's e46 rear subframe bushings and e46 differential bushings. This is a tough job, and in this video we cover disassembling your m3 for the subframe reinforcement; performing the actual reinforcement, including welding; and finally installing the subframe bushings and differential bushings before putting the car back together. Hopefully this video helps you complete the entire job!

Black Flagged was born from a desire to just get out there and do what we wanted. Racing, drifting, rally, endurance-whatever we can do to get our wiggles out. We're a race team, a tribe, a community, a media house, and a content provider. We don't claim to be the smartest guys on the track or the authority on motorsports, but we know what we like and we'll give it our all to make it happen and make the best stuff we know how. We try harder.

Good on ya brother! I had my rear subframe reinforced at an indy shop because it was just too daunting to try and tackle myself. The one thing that I wish I had added at that time was upgrading to adjustable rear camber arms. It would have been so much easier & cheaper than having to go back in after the fact to get that done. I did replace the RTAB too, so next I'm on to bullet proofing the VANOS system. Glad you're back posting again!

I take my hat off to you, subframe is a lot of work on any car. E46 is definitely one of the time consuming car subframe to do. I got lucky when I bought my car, my good friend from Boostlogic in Austin Texas did my subframe and every single bushing in the rear of my M3. Then shipped my car to me

Really like ur channel. Nice M3. I’ve just finished doing this to mine, made exactly the same mistakes/errors of judgement, that u did. Took me forever to get the rear end bolted back onto the car. WTF were we thinking trying to bolt the whole rear end back on. But we learn by our mistakes, I bet you won’t do it that way again and ur pain isn’t in vain if somebody watches this and does it the easy way. Shugs.

Nino Brown out of curiosity, how do you add primer before you weld something? Wouldn’t the weld burn off any primer? Wouldn’t you put any rust protection after the welds? I’ve never welded a car before so I’m asking.

Great video and fantastic tips, I myself have a e46 m3 and have done for many years, on visual inspection no cracks but who knows what lies underneath, Reddish motorsport here in the uk specialise in the subframe reinforcements so one day will no doubt visit them, this is way beyond my skill level what you just done. Well done. Much respect for you to tackle this job. Had mine done by my mechanic. Finally decided this past year to move on from the E46 M3 for road track purposes. A lot of people are coming back saying they still are getting cracks in subframe mount points even after doing this update. That you need to reinforce the top half by connecting the mount points and reduce twisting. Mason bar and some other solutions available. I decided to move on as it’s just too much of a hassle to sort this car out for track duty. They’re still awesome cars.

You could also look into the Vince bar from Vince Philstrom in Sweden. Stealthy install and redistribute the subframe load to more reinforced areas of the chassis. Nice work. I'm going to do this in the off season, won't have enough time to do this despite having all the parts.

@@BlackFlagged I've got 80k miles on mine and it's in way worse shape. Visible cracks from the spot wolds around the sub-frame mounting points and a big one travelling up the fold in the floor panel. I think after the CSL in 2003 the changed some of the spot welds, or added more, because cars from 03 onward seem to be more solid.

How easy it is when you have a lift and don't have to crawl under your car on porous asphalt without a creeper, with 1' 1/2 of clearance and remove the subframe of an e46 at 35°C, piece by piece... So yeah, I did what you did, but in far faaar worse conditions than you faced. It was tough, but not super hard Appreciate what you have, cause it can always be worse

The differential install is incorrect and possibly what attributed to the front bolt stripping. The front bolt and two rear bolts should be threaded hand tight and then the front bolt is to be torqued first (correct torque spec is 148 ft/lb) followed by the two rear bolts (correct tightening sequence is 15 ft/lb followed by a 90* angle torque).

Hate to say this, but plating is not enough. The only certain way to do this, is to tie the subframe mounts into the chassis legs. The plates only move the stress to other places that will fail.

good video but there's a reason BMW put somewhat squishy bushes and not solid as a rock Acetyl in there and reinforcing the body is good, but only shifts the problem to the next weakest point on an already marginal body design. the English boys - Beamish do loads of videos on the topic. a little anal yes but thorough. your style is great and a very informative easy to follow format.
