I've been wanting a s85 for a while now. I was about to buy one 4 years ago but I have found a really awesome deal on a n54 and I went that route. But this is pretty much almost the same to my e90 n54.. my belt shredded so I did all this pan out, got new everything from that point.. I'm definitely going for a s85 again. Awesome work bro!

L6 today are all turbos. I they have all the same problems. Like the l4. Bearings, chains, chain tensioners, piston rings. And the automatic transmission. Everything is made to last around 100000mls. Then you should buy a new car. The factory knows, the first driver has the car for 36 month, leasing, 60000mls. Then, the Bmw Dealer can sell the car. After 2 years, +/- 40000mls, there is now more warranty.

About a year ago we had the 'pleasure' of having to replace crank, few rods, oil pump system parts and related @ 44k miles. BMW corporate refused to do much due to past history we were not 'privy to'. My guess was overfilled oil or not doing scheduled maintenance during warranty. Was the same s85 in a M5 with low ( near zero) oil pressure and a low rpm vibration/harmonic engine noise situation. #10 rod partially spun the lower shell above upper shell. Rods 8 and 9 worn thru most all layers but had not catastrophically failed/spun yet. I dont recall if it was the chicken that led to the egg, but I do remember distinctly we were thinking 'what odd wear' on rod bearings. Bearings were clean, no striations from dirty oil, but EVERY rod bearing looked as if it was tie-dyed (yes like the shirt). I swore it was oil related but we had little history on it. Likely 10-60 oil never getting to optimal peak temps...in my case, chronic short trip driver plus long northeast winters and nothing ever is up to temp. We used oem parts, spec and oil per owner request, advised to have rod bearings inspected every 40k miles and oil metal analysis every oil change and consider a 0-40 or 0-50 oil. A dozen oil/coolant radiators dont help the situation.
