Mine is sorted now. To cut a very long story short, after 2 batteries and an alternator by the so called BMW specialists, finally got it sorted by my local trusted garage who replaced the Alternator and no issues since. Good luck with your problem.

Hi, it was the alternator. It was giving spikes every now and then causing errors.

The fix to this problem ladies and gents is you must replace battery to oem and register battery to (dme) cars computer and also replace alternator.

Wait, so you had a bad alternator? How does this relate to a transmission error pop up?

What was the problem then mate was it the battery or alternator?

I have this car It's the worse car ever. Fix abs fix brake pump almost died had no brake on free way Fix alternator Fix spark plug cable Fix water pump Error error all the time. The worse car ever had my dad got it new in 2002 but when things work the sound proofing and buttery smooth supension is hard to beat even with today's rivals. Reliability sorry to say LOL

I have 001 740il with the same problem I got a new battery failsafe went off but turned back on ' check alternator and it was putting out low voltage the sensors on these cars work on high voltage" r/r alternator and failsafe went out along with a few other lights like abs ' dsc ' brake . the alternator was not check .. OUCH !!

Hello guys i have a problem with battery... I recharge battery and drive 2-3 days and car(battery) is dead.. If i dont move with car, i started it after 14 days without problem. I put new battery bosch and programme it by diag, and problem continues. Where is the problem? :(

I have a similar problem minus the alternator fault. My transmission is in fail safe mode. It drives with no problem and change gears with no problem however the Rpm goes up when I drive. I have taken it to BMW and several other mechanics. I have been told it's either a computer problem or something inside the transmission is bad. my car is giving me the blues.

I have the same shit problem with my 745i and the cost to diagnose and fix is a grip.. never again wud i buy a bmw

@ markita williams.. ya I have a 5 series also a 528i, I think they r tougher.. only the 7 series hav such electrical problems. It's just annoying that they are really high maintenance and I barely uses that car.

kysike666 You are right. I found out that alot of the 7 series are made in America. I'm not downing American made cars but if you are paying for a foreign vehicle then you expect to get your money's worth. My 745li have given me such a headache. I had to replace the seal that cost me 1400. Because the car was stuck in park and wouldn't move at all. Too many sensors and electrical issues for me.

kysike666 I’m going to do that as soon as I get out of school 😄 This thing giving me some trouble and I have to focus on my school and then I have to focus on this shit not to broke down to much headache any other car that you recommend ?
