Thanks for the video. Really helpful. Several little tips saved me a ton of time! I just did one for my Dad tonight. Real pain to get the old alt out. The main power cable just didnt have enough play to move the alt around. Hopefully the new altenator and the new battery will fix his warning lights. A couple of things: - a piece of cardboard on the radiator for protection - I didnt have to remove the passenger air box or expansion tank hose. - orienting the main power cable vertically on the lug gave me more room to get it back in. - a quick picture of the belt routing is worth gold! Thanks for the video!

I wish you would have also done the alternator mounting bracket gasket while you had the alternator pulled... Pretty much all N62 engines develop an oil leak behind the bracket and it can get pretty bad. It would be a SUPER helpful video to MANY (including me)!

I just removed the alternator on my 04 745li. 30min job. Thanks to this vid!!!!! No need to remove the belt, just move it a bit to pull alternator out.

Hi Chris, I've subscribed and have been watching your videos for tips and trick for awhile now. Great job!!! I've decided to replace the gasket behind the alternator bracket but am having trouble removing the alternator. The two bolts are removed and the alternator moves slightly to the right like it's on a pivot but won't move towards the front of the car like you say in your video. Any thoughts?

Hi, you don’t have to remove all this! I just replaced my alternator on my 2004 E66 745Li. The only thing to remove is front plastic cover, And i disconnected two coolant hoses. Now you can easily replace the alternator. It fits perfectly.

Hello, Any chance you might have some tips or tricks on how to get the hood open on a 750li. I took apart the inside where the you pull the lever to open the hood and looks like the cable is still attached but when i pull it towards me the hood will not open. Any suggestions or if you have a video it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

Chris what were the symptoms you were getting before you changed your alternato...I changed my battery car stated working good then after about 30 min the abs lights came on then the transmission failsafe came on.. did you have the same symptoms too?

What issues did you have that made you change alternator. I have E65 Alpina, my dash lite up like a Christmas tree at idle then died. Tested battery, seemed good but it's 6yo battery. I think that might be the culprit..

I had it diagnosed its saying steering column cluster, egs no msg via serial cable and egs supply voltage transmission control???

You DON'T need to remove the upper radiator support or electric fan assembly on an air cooled N62 alternator replacement. Simply remove the serpentine belt, then two coolant hoses going to the oil cooler - let drain into a bucket below. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and tuck all three out of the way. Then remove the two alternator bolts and GUESS WHAT - the alternator assembly with lower pulley can come straight out after disconnecting the regulator wire and main electrical lug. It's not even close - plenty of space for the alternator to come straight up out. KZfaq would be a lot more useful if total novice idiots at least consulted a professional first before trying to educate others in a public forum. Nothing wrong with sharing experiences if you know what you're doing or at least try to find out first from someone who does.

Great video as always. Do all these alternators for the e65/66 have that gasket that oil leaks out of? I fixed mine at the indy shop but it's still leaking a little bit. What could it be

Yes I had the same problem it took me about 30-40 mins to finally line up that long bolt, it just takes crazy patience and slight turning and adjusting to finally line it up. You'll get it, I actually prayed then it worked:)

FAIQ ISHAQ I have to check the size but it was the second to smallest socket I have, you can't even fit the head of a nail in it, but anyway it fit the torx head on the silver piece that holds down the ignition coils. Loosen it until the metal clamp is jingling, twist that out of the way. There is a clamp on the ignition coil that you can use your finger to unclip. It takes a bit of He-Manning to get them out but they do come out. Spend the money and get a Spark Plug Remover from Autozone. It's magnetic. Use a short extension with it and a 3/4" ratchet. For #1 and #2 you'll need to unbolt the power steering reservoir and push it to the side. It has two hoses that go around it so you'll need to shimmy those out of the way before you push the reservoir out of the way. For #3 and 4 I used two knuckles (not sure if they are called something else but they bend and allow your ratchet to reach tighter spots) on my extension and pulled those. For #5 and #6 the knuckes work nicely. #7 and #8 are pretty simple to pull with the knuckles. Moral of the story? Get 2 or 3 3/4" knuckles from your favorite auto parts store and go to town on those spark plugs. Get the NGK Iridium ones. I have no idea why people get the NGK R ones. They don't last as long. I know because the guy who owned my 745i before me didn't think to put better spark plugs when he did the job 3 months before selling me the car. He tried to race the thing and it fried #1 and #2 to the point where #1 just stopped firing altogether. #2 was on it's way out. The NGK Iridium are $6 instead of $9.19 for the double platinum NGK R spark plugs.

Thanks Chris, I have been having a very similar issue with mine, I put a video on my channel if you wanted to check it out. I replaced the battery and registered it and that didn't work so I will be ordering a new Alternator, and will probably keep this video in my back pocket. Chris what does the power steering pump hold on to, I broke the bolt in the hole I got it drilled out but the guy make the hole hollow causing the casing to break I need to know the name of the part that the pump bolts onto? Can it be changed, or do I have to get a new engine?

Hello, Try to find out which fuse it is, I would try to put a new fuse in 1st to see if that fixes it. 2nd option you might have cleared your memory so your car doesn't remember your settings. Hope this helps:)

***** PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!**** Thanks for the video. Your videos have helped me tremendously. I have a 2006 750LI. I'm in the middle of an alternator replacement. I'm having some issues removing the fan shroud. The problem I'm having is with the driver side fan clip on the side of The fan (the one that folds in). I pressed on the clip, but I couldn't create enough space to to fold the clip hinge in. I'm afraid I may break the clip as I'm not sure how to release it. PLEASE HELP ASAP as I can't proceed any further without removing the fan. I know this video was done on short notice and I greatly appreciate it, but in future videos it would be a big help to us newbies if you explain how clips/connections pull apart. I find myself wasting a lot of time trying to figure out un-attaching connections. Especially the ones you cant see real well (hidden). THANKS AGAIN!!!!

if anyone has any idea, I am getting code 28D7, i have literally installed 4 different alternators and am still getting the same error, however, when i install the one that is originally bad (remanufactured) the code goes away. I have been told that my car uses 180 amps via VIN #, but the re-manufactured has no exterior markings. I installed a 150 amp board on it, and the code goes away but since the inner parts of the alternator were fried changing the board only makes the code go away, so does that mean even the dealer does not know which alternator my car is supposed to have? i have no tried to buy a 150 amp, but do you think it is a 150amp?
