Lol two hours! Ive been doing a lot of diy mods ranging from wrap to sounds to engine bolt ons and every single fricken thing ive done has taken 10 times longer than I originally thought it would. Your window trim experience encapsulates my entire bmw ownership experience.

If you're just coming upon this video today like I just did, it does work but let me share some tips. 1. If you're working on the front doors, take the panel and mirror off immediately. Don't even waste time trying to work around the mirror because you will bend things which brings me to... 2. Don't bend stuff. Don't whip it like he did. Just raise it gently inch by inch using your pry tool. 3. WHEN you do bend your trim, just take your time and be gentle as you reform it. Small bends while looking down it like a gun. 4. When you lift your weather strip be careful not to banana the thing by pulling up like he did. It has thin metal strips in it. Gently pry it like you did the trim. 5. WHEN you do bend your weather strip, gently bend it back just like you did your trim, but focusing mainly on the groove the trim mates with. Don't worry about the side the door mates with yet. 6. If the trim now pops right on, lucky you. But mine still wouldn't act right so I had to SLIDE the trim into the weather strip slowly with silicone lube in the track. This was a painstaking process because I didn't want to have to restraighten everything again. 7. Once you actually have the trim back in the groove, take a set of needle noses and work the rubber groove that goes into the door back straight again it may not be perfect but it needs to be straight enough to straddle the groove. 8. If you're doing the front doors, START WITH THE HOOK (OUTER) SIDE FIRST. Hook it to the end of your door then start working your assembled trim strip from there in. Use your pry tool to push the rubber straight as you go. After all the work, that final snap is borderline orgasmic.

I painted my chrome trim gloss black about 2 years ago on my 08 335i and I left the trim on. It took a little time to tape it all out, but was well worth it in the end! The paint still looks great as of today 👍🏻

Hi Justin, You saved my day. This piece of chrome trim has become loose- to be accurate, one end of it. So I removed it and could not get it back. Now, I know how to do that- thanks to you!

I just removed and reinstalled my front door chrome trim and using the process Justin detailed for the rear door. The chrome looks like it did before removal; no bends, kinks or distortions. Thanks, justin

Oh man!! My 2011 320d MSport has this, I got out in a tight space and popped it off, no way could I get it back on, I took out the wether seal, it deformed and then I couldn’t get the trim to sit back on in anyway shape or form, it pains me how simple you just made this look 😂

Hello, I 've always liked your videos Justin but I don't like this one.....doing this is crazy. I did it with my own e90 front driver's crhome and it was a nightmare. Removing the window strip is a very bad idea as it will bend because it's forced down when installed in the factory.Besides, you even have to remove the front mirror in order to do so!. Therefore, I DO NOT recommend this to anybody. In case you do remove the chrome trim, don't remove the strip. Just slide it in even if it's forced. Use a lubricant such as WD 40 and open the slot which is on the rubber strip. The chrome will never be like it was before but it will be hardly unnoticeable. However, the rubber strip could bend so badly that you could have water leaking afterwards and you will be forced to but a new one from BMW which is not cheap at all. Conclusion: DON'T DO THIS!

Thanks for the upload, by the time I found this video the Shadow line and rubber seal was bent. I greased it up which made it worse as the shadow line popped out easier from the imperfections. I spent a while cleaning everything with cotton buds and kitchen towel taking extra time to get into the rubber lines. After that it was so much easier to pop in, and despite having imperfections on both the shadow line and rubber seal it's still gone on okay. So, it's well worth persevering, if anything I'd spend a lot of time cleaning everything.

Lol, everybody wants to remove the chrome trims, I actually like them. Usually I remove the upper trims and keep the ones under the windows. Makes for a classy sporty / sporty classy look

Curious but I’m assuming that it’s difficult to pry both the trim and weather strip together off the door ? Instead of one by one then having to reattach it to the weather strip then placing it back on the door … ??

Well once you remove the chrome on the door, it will have imperfections. Its impossible to remove it without bending.

What about the front window? Do you need to remove the mirror?

Fucked up my weather strip, my friend got it straight then got a flat head and opened up the bottom that seals the window and door and wiggled it back in, close call be very carefully taking it off

Dude definitely remove it from the car when painting. I just blacked out the chrome on my E46 and it was a huge pain with all the masking off, and in the end I still had a bit of overspray on the window and 2 spots where the coverage was not perfect. In the end it is best to just take it off and do it that way. Additionally, if you have the option, it would be best if you powder coated it. Hope my experience helps out a bit ;)

Where can I purchase the driver side window weatherstrip cause it's bent to shit and way too hard to bend back to shape, don't know how I managed to mess it up so badly

Hey Justin, I was wondering if you could do a video on the driver / passenger shadow line trim? After starting to work around the car on this trim. It is necessary to remove the side mirrors to get the trim along the base of the window off. I think doing a part 2 video on this would help tons of people working on DIY'ing the ghost / shadow line trim on these e90 beamers! Thanks man!

All this did was cause headache, I removed it like you did and it bent the weather stripping, and the trim still wouldn’t insert properly. Bs
