Just wanted to share this with you guys. When removing the pigtail from the electrical sensor, oil filter housing, starter connection etc... you don't have to remove the retaining clip. All you need to do is press/push the clip inward and pull the connector out. This will prevent you from losing the clips. Just thought i mention it.

Thank you for putting this video together. It was extremely helpful. I was a little intimidated by all the interference that had to be removed in order to gain access to the starter. You took the worry out of the task. Thanks again for taking the time and effort to walk people like me through the process.

Thank you so very much! Excellent job with this video. I worked F/T teaching paramedic school, along with 2 other F/T, and 25 P/T instructors. I've seen a lot of people teach and you my friend have that most excellent demeanor, taking your time to cover everything that you could think of, in a very relaxed and pleasant way. Very nice work again. Also, I scored big points with my wife and son with your help in doing this project, as well as all of that money that you saved us. Thank you again! Rob....Chico, CA

My engine light came on stated that it was the starter. The code it read as "A0B4 Engine Start, starter operation" and "A0B2 Supply, terminal 30E/30L". Well I followed this video and it went smooth. You rock! Thanks a ton! First, I disconnected the battery and started remove one piece by one. I kept track of all parts by labeling them. The fist piece I removed, I put #1 and so on. So when it was time to put them back, I simply followed the order in which they were removed going backward. I just replaced the starter as well as spark plugs last night. Hours later all went well. It was pretty easy if your know where things are located and have some patience. Dealer wanted ~$1200 + tax just to replace the started plus a few hundreds more for spark plugs. Again, thanks everybody, especially the video author - you are the man!

I must say that it is simply the most useful video I have had in my life. I have a BMW 528i 2008, watch the video although a few things were different, I save more than $1,200 dollars, and I bought the spare parts and tools in Autozone, definitely, it is the best video that could be made, I am not a mechanic and I had not done any work well, but with the video everything became simple. 1 month ago I did the job myself, without help from anyone and my car works perfectly. A thousand thanks for the significant contribution. I recommend the video without a doubt and I wish I could give stars. Thank you a lot!!!!!!

Dude! you kick ass bro. You just saved me $1200 that's what the dealer wants. Garage down the street, first said $685 then said $500. shaky! man, shaky. Don't know what to believe. Until I saw your vid. Great job man. Your step by step and most importantly no camera shaking was on the money. I followed your vid followed your step by step and I had the Starter out in 2, well 2 1/2 but that's cool. Just in time for second quarter Navy Army game (Go Navy). Small advice for anyone attempting a starter removal. Tape your screws and bolts and nuts and washers and everything else to the part you just removed. Keep your intakes covered, you don't want anything falling into your intakes. For the two t25 screw removal, located under the manifold; make sure the wrench sits nice and flat and unscrew nice and easy. You can strip the star on these screws easily. For the hoses under the manifold- they're a bitch I used pliers, just be gentle. The smaller hose which urbanhowto said was the hardest was actually the easiest for me. Here's what I did. Instead of getting your fingers from one hand trying to squeeze it , I used both hands my left hand along side the back of the hose not visible to you, my right hand on the side facing you. from the back side and front side I squeezed pulled and it came right off. Anyway hope this helps

You just fixed my BMW (through my hands). I can't believe it worked. It took many hours as I am not that experienced. I have a UK 330i and there was two slight differences. There was an extra sensor lead as you lift off the manifold - be careful. Also, the two leads that attach to the the manifold beside where the throttle body is, is slightly different. My starter motor worked when it was removed but the new one was put in anyway. Car started first time. The new one has enough torque to start the car easily, the old one didn't. My car never even made a clicking noise so I wasn't sure.

Dude great video! Lots of information and great camera work too! Tips for you and everyone here is to use ziplock bags to store screws and bolts. Just label the bags. Use bright masking tape to tape up connectors. This will make it easy to spot cables not plugged in. Use a marker to mark anything to help you not forget. Lastly With these BMWs upgrade any flimsy plastic hose with an engine/transmission oil hose with metal screw on hose clamps. Vacuum leaks suck ass on these cars but when it works right its second to none!

Great video, it helped me remove my manifold and replace the CCV. Just wanted to add that you don't need to take the metal clip of the connector at 49:33 you can just push down on it and pull it out. This way you don't run the risk of losing the clip. Cheers!

Great video...thank you for all the ideas, really appreciated and saved me hundreds of $$. I was able to get starter out without disconnecting the breather hose at all, I did not remove the throttle body or the wire harness screws and did not disconnect the small lower hose. I was able to get starter out without removing the IM.....it was tight, but was able to access screws on starter. Held manifold in place using bungee chords. I did replace the gaskets on the IM. Got three quotes: Dealer-$1,100.00 two independent shops $814.00 and $774.00. Starter cost me $82.00, IM gaskets $18.95, breaker bar $7.99 and flexible angle wrench $14.99. It is a tedious job, but I enjoy working with my hands and on my car, learned something and saved money!! Thanks again.

I watched a couple of starter replacement videos and though that this is something I'll leave it up to the mechanics because all the other tutorial videos are very fast paced and skip alot of steps where they assume the person watching already is a decent mechanic, and also don't go over the specific tools they use. After watching this it made me feel like I can definitely do this myself. Thank you for taking the time out to be patient and explain everything. Best tutorial video I've seen so far. I hope to see more videos from you in the future. P.s.:What year is your car? and I think the little clips u pull out from the connector using screw drivers are just meant to be easily pushed in and pull the connector out. just an FYI. But yeah, would love to see more videos from you.

Just an update to my last reply - my fix completed, swapping the starter motor worked!!! And unplugging the throttle body plug seemed to have no affect, which was good as I was able to clean and examine it a bit easier. Unplugging those CCV hoses was such a bear that I really only got one of the three underneath the manifold disconnected and then decided to just move the rest out of the way while I got to the starter bolts and maneuvered the starters through, not bad at all. I did use a brand new dealer starter motor at $240 (after a slight discount!), and sprung for a new battery which replaced a 4 year old battery that was probably OK, but oh well. This went from a no-click no-nothing start condition to the healthiest start I've gotten from that car. My only real clue before total failure was the engine cranking more and more slowly when starting -- but only in the mornings when extra chilly. I had taken the removed one into Autozone and it ran on their no-load tester, so the solenoid wasn't bad. They also commented it sounded weak, so the motor was simply worn out to the point of not being able to crank. There was carbon powder all around the starter gear, which I've seen before in bad starters (= carbon brush wear particles). Thank you again for doing this video. Seeing the process really helps gain confidence in my own attempts to do the same. And now I know most of the steps to do an eventual CCV system replacement. I did see signs that its days are numbered...

This video attracted my attention because the starter motor in my 2011 BMW 328i needs to be replaced. I was curious to see what the service department of my BMW dealer has to do to replace the starter motor. Today's cars are a lot more complex than they were in times past. With many old cars one can get at the starter motor by jacking up the front of the car and the starter motor was easily accessible from beneath the engine.

thanks for this really good video! I was able to not completely remove the Intake Manifold, just move it out of the way. I could not get the T25 in the back/bottom that secures the wireharness nor did the squeeze to disconnect pvc connections under the IM. (was 8 degrees out and was cold lol) nt fighting with these saved me hours!

Trying to do the same thing. I stripped one of the T25 screws so I gave up on trying to remove that harness. Was about ready to just cut the damn bracket right off it self. Even tho thag whole thing actually slides out of the bracket. I can’t get mine to budge. Also 8 degrees out and my hands were so cold. And then my buddy just had to break one of the CCV hose’s so now I’m at a standstill waiting for that to get delivered. I don’t even wanna finish the job the weather is so shitty. Ughhh. 😩
