BMW F10 Burning Smell from AC Vent FIXED

I found the issue to be my blower motor. Replacing it fixed the issue. The motor has plastic pieces and for some reason it was melting from the heat causing smell. One day I was running ac in full blast and motor just gave up. That’s how I found the culprit. I changed it and no more issues. I made a video on it in my channel how to replace the motor. How To Do it soo as long as I still get warm air on the drivers side, my motor is still good and I should just replace the blow motor resistor!? I get the burning smell and only the passenger side gets no hot air at all.

This happened to me on Bmw e92 320d 2011. Burnt smell and fan only working on low speed. Changed blower (got new one from Valeo) and it works Perfect now!!

We have a new X3 and we started getting that in our way to down south just dropped it off to the dealer and they tried to tell me no problem found. I still have the loaner till they figure this out maybe I should forward this video to the ASE certified technician.

Old video , but my 2013 535i heater hasn’t worked for a couple months also wasn’t a need with weather but I had a a coolant lead and replaced the whole housing unit was told heater would work again.. it blows but not very warm also has that light burning smell .. any thoughts just paid over 1k for the housing unit fix..

Have this issue now with my old mustang....its a convertible so dont need air much but its nice to defog windows when i cant have the top down....gonna be a fun fix 😅

Thank you my man, in,my car I can't stay without filters , change them bit the smell didt go away, you save me 1k dollars, il find a new blower then change it, for me smell like tire burn or plastic or wire , this might be the problem

Hello mate. This is such a helpful video as I think it’s exactly what has happened to mine. White smoke and the smell came out of my car vents on my F10 quite badly today. Now there is no air con and the dans do not work at all. What is the name of the actual unit? I want to find one, but I do not know its name to search. Thanks 🙏🏻

did you replace the fan only, with a bmw original, or get a non-oem bmw fan, if so has it lasted since this video. I bought an entire used unit (cannister), it lasted about 9 months, now the smell is back, it would appear that these original fans last a few years before they fail. considering a non owm bmw fan from ebay as a replacement, have any thoughts about it, they're under $50 with a 1 yr warranty - tks

Rj Kulman I bought a used one from eBay it was genuine bmw. If smell is back it’s the motor again. Just get the after market one and you will be ok.

@@HowToDoitright The replacement unit I bought was also a original bmw (2012), but as I said, they seem to fail after 7 yrs, have a local junkyard here...also under $50 (used bmw oem) vs a 1yr warranteed non bmw unit from ebay ????? ( you seem to have been lucky with a used bmw, that still works

Just saw this video. I made the mistake of not disconnecting the battery and now my car will crank but not start Im also getting a drivetrain malfunction message. Is this what happened to as you mentioned on the video. And if so what happened and what was the fix? Thank you

All depends on who is doing the job. A rookie can take 10 days to do it and a pro can do it in 1-2 hours

My Q50 has both driver vents blowing AC like it’s at 70 and both passenger vents are blowing really cold like it’s at 60 like it’s suppose to since I set the temperature at 60.

Andy Muller it was a plastic mesh that is used for door screening. Easily available at Lowe’s or home depot. Any plastic mesh will work

Ok not sure how aluminum will holdup with the glue gun. The reason I didn’t use aluminum was as it absorbs heat and can transfer it to glue causing it to melt and then it will come loose. But again I live in Florida heat which can get in to 90F.

hello i own a 2013 bmw 550i and have the same problem but the smell is a bit more oily than electrical but i had many mechanics look at the engine and no leaks at all. when i took off the housing cover i got a faint smell but couldn't take it off fully so i couldn't tell. could this be the problem ive been looking for a while???

cbibjb so if it’s oily smell then define your valve cover is leaking. It could be a minor leak. That leak falls on the exhaust and burns off so you won’t see any Oil drips anywhere. The burn oil then gets sucked into the vent and come inside the cabin. Check out my F10 playlist where there is a video on changing the valve cover gasket because of this issue. It’s pretty common

@@HowToDoitright I actually had 2 bmw specialist mechanic look for leaks, the first one actually did a valve cover seal replacement and another did a turbo line to gasket repair and no luck they said the engine was good with no leaks. thats why i am looking for maybe other problems it might have. thank you for replying.

cbibjb did you check if there was evidence of oil on the exhaust pipe by the oxygen sensor. Do you smell any burning smell outside or it’s all inside?

No just remove the old one and it should have a label on it and then go on eBay and look for one.

What type of burning smell is it? Is it oil burning smell or electronic burning smell? Open your hood and see if you smell similar burning smell under the hood. It could be oil dripping on your exhaust but that’s a different smell. If it’s your ac fan motor then it could be your ac fan motor. Depends on type of smell

@@marvmon4735 if it smells like oil then your valve cover must be leaking. Cleaning won’t help as it will cure the problem for a day or two. Watch my F10 playlist. There are videos I showed there about how to change the valve cover. Most likely your oil filter housing gasket is also leaking. I also have videos on that. Watch it all. You will learn and you can do it yourself.

I am experiencing a bad burning smell so i took the car to BMW and they said it was the Value cover gasket. I had that changed and i am still having the same problem. Im thinking next it may be the blower but im not sure. The burning smell is random, sometimes when the heat is on i smell it, other times I have the heat on and its fine.

@@HowToDoitright Hey man, so I had the Value cover gasket changed by bmw, cleaned the oil that was leaking onto the exhaust.... I drove the car around and same problem. burning smell and smoking coming out from under the hood... when I look at the exhaust pipe that I cleaned, more oil was on it.... does this mean bmw didn’t do a good job when replacing the value cover gasket??

Arman Usa do you smell the same. If yes guaranteed it’s your motor. Just order the motor from eBay. I got a used one and used the existing assembly and everything else. Works fine. No need to purchase the entire assembly.

Look how easy that was. The fukin dealership would’ve hit me over my head for a simple diy. So here’s my situation. When the heat is on it goes cold for a wild then it gets warm again. Sometimes you see smoke come out of the vents but then it stops. Sometimes it blows low power. I’m assuming I should just replace that entire piece you removed

Yup that’s the problem. Even if you just find motor you don’t really need the entire piece. It’s the bad motor.

Drean I really hope you put a new one and not a used one. Also hopefully you changed your filter because the old filter get flushed up with burned smoke and if you use it it will smell the same.
