Very informative. It is almost criminal - that BMW have made it so complicated to get to the battery...It is easier to replace a processor unit in a computer!

Great video. My 2016 328d wagon also had a battery hold-down bracket on the bottom of the battery well at the rear of the battery. You can get to it from above with a long socket extension.

Thanks! While I was checking potential F31 wanted to check battery compartment. Now I know why I wasn't successful to do that. Way too much steps to access it!

How do I remove the battery once the bracket is removed? I'm pulling up and the whole car is going with it. Is it screwed to the floor or something? Do I have to go underneath the car to unscrew the battery from the floor??

@@AutisticMorty there's another clamp holding the base of the battery down that's difficult to see. You'll need to unscrew its bolt, and then you can take the battery out. Part #2 on this diagram www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=8J13-USA-09-2016-F31N-BMW-328dX&diagId=61_2816

Really helpful, thank you. Out of interest, what is the long silver / aluminium item when you lifted the rear floor panel. I have nothing in mine and often wondered what should be there?

That's the cargo divider. MY2017 was the last year BMW included it with the F31 in the USA.

hi is it possible to send me a picture of the back cover at 2.20 min my insulation foam got removed and im having difficulties to put it properly. would love to see just one picture how is it set up properly behind the cover please

What's that long bar on top of the truck floor at 0:11? Looks like some type of strut bar lol

Good eye! You're right that it's a rear brace bar. Honestly it wasn't worth it...

@@FaRKle0079 thanks for the response! Yeah was trying to figure out if there’s a way to unplug the negative terminal without taking out half the panels in the cargo space, and then saw that bar 😂

Out of curiosity, what is it installed between rear bolts in your trunk? It looks like a beam or an enforcement.

That's the KC Design rear brace. It's not worth it, haha.

I was wondering where the heck the battery was located. Could not find it in the owners manual.

Yup, the BMW documentation on it is pretty lacking... Maybe they figure since you need to take it to a dealer/shop to program a new battery, why give the end-user instructions?

@@FaRKle0079 Probably that :) Anyway, you talk about programming, if i place a new same spec battery i hope i would not have to program anything? Provided i'll keep my ctek powersupply on the acces poles under the hood.

@@supertekkel1 The programming required is to tell the car the capacity of the battery so it doesn't get over/undercharged. I believe BMW de-rates the battery capacity over time to account for wear.

@@FaRKle0079 I just swapped mine out for a Bosch battery of identical capacity. I never had the battery coded and it's worked fine for over 2 years and counting. Its your choice if you want to spend another $50 with BMW but for me it's continued to work just fine without coding. I also have a 5 series E61 M Sport and swapped out the battery on this for one of identical capacity (Exide - which was also the make of the original BMW battery) this one has been going strong for 3 years + without any coding. Colleague also did the same on his 2018 M4 and this battery also working just fine. I guess the charging profile might be off a little and could potentially decrease the battery life a little, but I can live with that.
