I love my K 1600 GTL! Everytime I ride it, I marvel at what a masterpiece of engineering it is.

Sorry to hear that the turbulence issue was not addressed on the Grand America. I've reduced the turbulence to a very acceptable level on my 2020 GA. I'll be keeping my GA which I love. No ACC is a bummer and no safety indication lights for approaching cars from behind/left/right like on the new DUcati Multistrada and Triumph adventure bikes. C'mon BMW!

Well done! I own the 2022 bagger and did 14,000 miles on it last summer. I just came off an Indian Challenger, which I loved. The BMW K1600b is leaps and bounds better than any bike I have owned or ridden. However, the Germans miss the mark on several things. As you stated, the wind management is very lacking compared to an Indian or Harley. The bike has dirty air wobble behind semi trucks. My wife is a casual rider so she isn’t in tune with bikes, and when we came up behind a semi truck and passed it she said the bike wobbled. I had never mentioned the issue in front of her so I was quite surprised that she noticed and commented so quickly. The stereo, (Americans love music on the bike, not in the helmet) is shameful added weight and hasn’t been turned on since day 3 of owning this bike. With a full face helmet, you can’t hear one decibel of music above 35 miles an hour. BMW should be very ashamed of this! The side opening bags are very ugly from the backend of the bike. Very voluminous you might say. Side opening sucks and you have to bend over to look or get into the stupid things. Also, a two step button/latch system is irritating as hell. The BMW GPS app is awful too! I used it my first day on a 5,000 mile road trip last summer and deleted the stupid useless app. Cumbersome as hell. Drains your battery and then you have nothing for guidance. Last but not least, it disconnects your music in your helmet (once again, I hate music in my helmet) when you get a phone call. This brings me to the last thing that none of the KZfaqrs never mention. This is a cross country high end luxury motorcycle with all the bells and whistles, right? Why in the hell doesn’t It have a slotted drivers seat to accommodate a much needed backrest? This is friggin stupid! A month after I bought this bike, I bought their high dollar 719 seat and guess what? No backrest for the rider. I swear the BMW engineers don’t ride motorcycles more than two miles at a time for test rides or they would experience these major issues. Most Americans will not buy this bike due to the shortcomings listed above. All but racing, Harley and Indian will continue to kick the shit out of BMW in the American market until this stuff is addressed. All this said, it’s still my favorite bike I have owned! To have a stock touring bagger that power wheelies straight up in the air (you have to turn off the traction control) is priceless!

This is a really good assessment of the K1600 range, however I don't think we need an alternative to Apple Car Play or Android Auto, For many years BMW have provided great integrated maps in their cars and the separation from Garmin gave them the opportunity to adopt their car technology with voice control e.g. "turn on heated seats", "show me petrol stations", "Alexa, play my music list" etc. All in their cars today and an obvious choice for riders with microphones and speakers in their helmets. The wonder wheel should have been seen as an outdated backup solution for all the options the bike now has. BMW have spent large amounts of money competing with Apple & Alphabet instead of developing a true driving experience from their own in-house technology. Who wants to plug in a phone and fiddle about with WiFi settings every time they go somewhere? They could have used the in-built SOS SIM to provide a data connection if they wanted it, same as the cars. The new bike looks great but the reliance on a smartphone is not what you expect from a premier bike.

was so disappointed that bmw did not add ACC to this range. The R18 gets it, but a bike designed for long distance touring does not? How does that make sense? I will keep my 21 GT.

I'm 190 cm tall and I think what is better for me GT or GTL? I like ride position in GT but I like better all accessories from GTL. I think maybe is seat to low for me? Great video! Thank you

Fantastic video, love the information. I love the K1600b as in my country (Trinidad and Tobago),long distance riding can be done in a day. I’m 6’2” so I think the K1600b would be a better choice for me

The most honest review so far. Thank you for that. I am in the market for a new touring motorcycle for 2-up, long distance rides. Wind protection is something that the aftermarket can easily fix. What is not forgivable is the fact that they have left out apple carplay (Is BMW trying to compete with Apple & Alphabet / Google?? Really??) and Adaptive Cruise Control. I seriously doubt that this safety feature will be available as a retrofit. Lastly, for a bike this class not even the controls are back-lit? Unbelievable. Here is one fact that causes all of this. They rely on royalists, and BMW has gotten arrogant. That is because we continue to support them. I hope they learn from their mistakes and potentially huge market share loss due to these missed opportunities and rectify these issues for the 2023 model year.

The only reason BMW didn’t put adaptive cruise control on this bike is because they want to play the technology throttling game like Apple does. This year you get led lighting, next you’ll get navigation, and the year after that key fob with remote locking. There is no reason other that tech throttling that adaptive cruise control was not put on this bike and reviewers are skipping over it quickly. Makes one wonder if BMW made the topic a no go zone.

So why did BMW NOT include ACC, like their RT and R18!!??? Stupid on their part.
