Can somebody explain DTM racing to me???

@@zaids4431 what you saw was not DTM but endurance racing. DTM was initially for racing sedans from all car companies across europe. in the last decade or two it shifted more towards coupe style GT cars but in a different reglement, meaning that as a team you could not race a gt3 car in dtm and vice versa. that is very costly and after mercedes decided to no longer participate in 2018 there was a major DTM crisis which led to the race organizers thinking about including gt3 cars in the reglement. granted these two classes have alot in common as they are in some shape or form derivitives of one and another. DTM cars however are generally referred to as faster than GT3 due to massive aero improvements despite using smaller cars for their base (f. i. M4 DTM instead of M6 GT3 and Audi A5 DTM instead of R8 LMS/GT3). I don't know if BMW will send their now seemingly M6-replacing M4 GT3 into DTM or not but in either way its a shame because imo both the M4 DTM and the M6GT3 are far more attractive then the new M4 GT3. @@jonnierendon they are raced in races like nurburgring 24 hours, at Spa, Monza, and more. Essentially endurance races and other shorter races in the form of DTM.

@@Eieieieinszweidrei Probably because bmw wanted to promote their new m4 through the gt3 racing program.. Another reason being, the m8 is a big car, a giant coupe even.. Its long proportion also making it harder to overtake the other drivers, especially in tight places/corners..

ich frage ich auch ob gar kein neuer 6er fest geplant ist weil der 8er ist eine ziemlich teure alternative wäre und ja, der M6 ist einfach sexy :P

@@limez1307 der 6er ist doch mittlerweile das GT Modell vom 5er. Glaube so schnell kommt da nichts mehr. Der hat sich vermutlich nicht so gut verkauft

@@limez1307 Der M4 ersetzt jetzt den m6. Die haben inzwischen beide relativ ähnliche Abmessungen. der m4 ist nur 10 cm kürzer und ungefähr genauso breit, wiegt aber ca 200 kg weniger, hat aber auch weniger Leistung

@@limez1307 Ich denke mal, dass nach dem 8er vielleicht wieder ein 6er kommen wird. War damals ja auch, also e24 dann e31 und dann kam wieder der e63. Aber ich weiss nicht wie gut sich der 8er dieses mal verkauft, scheint aber recht gut zu sein. Beim e31 war das ja nicht der Fall, weswegen dieser eingestellt wurde.

@@Errost5 vermutlich richtig... Auch von dem 6er GT sieht man so gut wie keine... Wahrscheinlich gehen die Verkäufe da eher auf Chinas Kappe.

well the new 4 series has to lead the motorsport car into perspective first. you cant race a new car that no one has seen befor on the roads :D. so they didn't really had any choice and personally I had hoped for a new 6 series and the complentary new race version to come out 2 years ago but... well BMW had diffenrent plans.

@@limez1307 Well that's why I don't get why they didn't use the M8 platform to race. It was clearly the M6 road car replacement and it's been out for a bit now

@@ajfreshkid I mean that's not far fetched. You're right... I mean Bentley is racing the continental so bmw sure could build a race M8... But I think they thought was what car could compete in the most racing series therefore costing a minimum for maximum attention, performance. I hope the 8 does not replace the 6 in the long run though
