The official record runs at the Nürburgring: since 2019, lap records at the Nürburgring have been officially recorded, confirmed and published. The car manufacturers provide the proof on the most demanding race track in the world: on the total of 20.832 kilometers of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the Green Hell.
The BMW M2 Coupé set a new official record in the compact class segment.

It have maybe 300hp but weighs over 300kg less. New m2 is almost as heavy as my f10 535d xDrive hah, chunky boy. Both cars have basically same weight to power ratio. 6 seconds i A LOT especially when m2 is so heavy. Also trophy R have 7:40, that’s pretty impressive but Renault always knew how to do fast fwd cars so not really surprised. Now let’s wait when bmw comes up with m2 competition, they’ll shave up several seconds I bet.

@@thecevi9179Then why make the cars so heavy? Also isnt the fwd Megane run pretty old at this point, they probably could do better with faster gearbox and new tires.

almost 200 hp more than the factory modified Type-R but only 6 seconds faster... what a shame... G series cars are heavy as hell...

The right wording is"heavily factory modified " ;-) Kesselchen before Mutkurve: (other record laps compared) Golf8R 120km/h / 4Rs Trophy R 121km/h but FL5 131km/h Real Power approx 370HP ;-)

It should be at least 100kg lighter, 1800kg for M2, It weighs more than most of RWD sedans

Great driving and concrats! The Audi RS 3 8Y should try another lap. They lost ~2 seconds on the last two turns... This will be an entertaining fight.

@SnakezF1 yes for sure the m2 has the more worse air resistance. But the M2 has normally 500hp in real, and so all other car videos I saw the m2 was faster above 60mph than the RS3.

Was ist da passiert? Eine 6.175 Sekunden Vorsprung auf ein Civic Type R? Für ein Auto der auf den Ring geboren und groß geworden ist, extrem bescheidend. Honda ist da ein viel seltener Gast. Zur Einschätzung: ein RS4 Avant gewinnt 20 Sekunden nur durch Competition Plus-Paket, also null extra PS. Hier sollte doch die BMW-Vorteile gegenüber Honda - RWD v FWD, schnelle Automatik v Schalter, Vmax 285 v 270 km/h und 3.9 v 4.5 kg/PS - viel mehr Ausschlag geben. Auch unfassbar wie der M2, der tatsächlich kleiner(!) ist als der Type R - minus 14 mm Länge, minus 3 mm Breite - ganze 320 kg (1.800 v 1.480 kg) mehr wiegt. Extragewicht durch größeren Motor und Automatikgetriebe ist normal, aber kaum dreistellig. Das straft sich normalerweise in Kurven und auf die Bremse, aber nichtsdestotrotz: alles andere als einen zweistellige Zeitvorsprung ist ein mittleres Desaster.

Die Runde vom FL5 Civic Type R war Quatsch: die Übersetzung war bei dem getesten Wagen anders und der Ladedruck sehr wahrscheinlich deutlich höher als beim Serienmodell. Aber ich stimme zum Punkt Gewicht vollkommen zu: 1700+kg in einem kompakten Sportwagen ist lächerlich, echt schwer nachzuvollziehen woher die Kilos kommen.

The RS3 was on Trofeo Rs and had a roll cage. Stick Trofeo Rs on the M2 and it wouldn't be close.

I guess we live in a world where 3,800 lb (1,725 kg) is in the "compact class segment" 🤔Wish BMW would make small, light, and nimble cars again. I've been a fan of ///M for decades but I'm more likely to buy a Toyota or Mazda now; sad but true.
