I track my 2011 e92 m3 two to three days out of the week since owning it from day one off the showroom floor and not once have I changed my rod bearings. These are one of the many things I carefully go over and check bi-monthly starting from the first 5k miles to the currently 130k miles and there's barely any signs of scuffing and wear. This is due to properly breaking in the engine for the first 10k miles on the engine and making sure to always completely warm up the engine before letting the throttle loose. Another important factor is always using high quality full synthetic brand that is formulated for European cars (which is very important) like liquid molly 10w60 for the warmer climate and something slightly lighter in viscosity during the winter or If you live in a colder climate. Also if your all weekend every weekend track day racer it's very crucial you change your oil between 2.5k to 3k miles nut if you're someone who just cruises on the weekends barely on the weekdays 5k oil change intervals would be my recommendation. For those who were going to reply with "but BMW says in the drivers manual says it's every 7k intervals for oil changes" it's people like you who are the 5 to 10% customer base that complain about thier motors going to shit cause you spun a rod bearing. Well now you know why and how to prevent such horrors and unless if you have a death wish if BMW tells you to jump off a bridge please don't mindlessly follow the 5% to 10% customer base to their deaths. P.s. One more very important piece of info if anyone has pre 09 to 08 manufacturer date you have the crappy copper bearings which can be spun literally at any moment .It's a must to get them switch out to the reinforced oem aluminum bearings which are manufactured much stronger in the 2010 to 2013 model M3. Follow these instructions and you won't need to replace your bearings even once during the time of you owning your s65 m3. Your welcome! :)

Well, both V8 and V10 were BMW's goodbye to N/A engines. Turbocharged engines of the same power are lighter, more fuel efficient and pollute less.
