Tools:
10mm socket: amzn.to/3VCmise
6mm socket: amzn.to/3izZcnp

For the 1/4 ratchet using a flex head gives you ease of movement in tight areas and comes in handy for other jobs.

3/8 ratchet: amzn.to/3h9zshn
- I recommend getting a ratchet with a flex head. This provides ease of movement and more flexibility, especially when used with other jobs

Thanks so much for posting this detailed video. Was able to complete today, and managed to only lose the two 10mm's that hold the overflow tank, and a small flashlight. All 10mm sockets were successfully recovered! I call that a score any day. I hate to even think the cost to have this done at a shop. Great job Mr. Mechanic!

That’s great! I’m glad the video helped! And yes this is no easy job. Congrats on getting it done. You saved a lot because book time is about 3 hours. Some shops where I live are 200-300 an hour. Thank you so much for the super thanks! I truly appreciate your generosity! 👊🏼

This was a very helpful guide, the only part that I think you may have missed was the removal of the bracket that holds the coolant reservoir, I see you removed it at 5:42 but it wasn't verbally mentioned. I believe the T30 goes on the hole closer to the coolant and the 10mm goes on the strut, but it shouldn't make a difference. BMW quoted me about 1k to do the spark plugs and both intake/cabin air filter, with your guides I was able to complete it for about $150. Thanks!

Just finished changing the cabin filter, engine filter and spark plugs. Took me total of 6 hours but that’s because I’m an extreme beginner. Once done, went for a drive and BimmerLink did not report any misfires. So hopefully it’s all good. Your videos were amazing. Thank you. The only thing you forgot to list is the “16mm” nut. I also don’t think I understood the 90 degree torque thingy. I might just have a mechanic do that for me since the screws are exposed. Not sure how important that is for a regular m3 user (no tracking). Thanks again. I really want to thank you for taking the time and making this video. I would love to send you a Venmo cash gift as a token of my appreciation. So please let me know. Cheers

That’s great! I’m glad everything worked out! Yeah the 90 degree angle torque is a little confusing. Yeah no problem the main goal of the channel is to help everybody and give them confidence to work on their car. It’s really not that hard if somebody shows you how to do it. Plus the savings is nice. I would greatly appreciate the gift. There is a thank you option on the video if you wish to give a cash gift. Thank you in advance I’ll frame your donation as you will be the first.

@@friendlymechanic9778 I drove on the highway and noticed when I went to accelerate a bit hard, I felt a power loss and after that, every time I accelerated, I would hear a quiet whistle. Issue not seen at idle when I accelerate or generally lower rpm. Any ideas what I messed up.

I would look at all the clamps for the intake pipes. Make sure those are tight. Check to make sure all connectors are on correctly. Make sure the air filters are not pinched as well. No check engine light on? Scan the car and check for any fault codes that be stored. Especially if you see a line disconnect fault go to that sensor and make sure it’s plugged in.

Check engine light just came on. I’m getting “air mass too high” errors: 102001, 102E11, 102901
@friendlymechanic9778
@friendlymechanic9778 6 ай бұрын
Yeah I would say there is un metered air coming in somewhere. You would need to double check your work on anything with an intake pipe and the charge pipes that were removed. If I remember correctly sometimes the charge pipes that connect to the intercooler can fold in on the bottom side and you can’t see it so check that as well. Let me know how it goes and I can lend further assistance.

In the video, you recommend a magnetic 10 mm socket. Is the link you provided for the socket (10 mm) the magnetic version? If not, can you provide a link to what you were using? I have purchased the parts and I am ready to change, but I want to make sure I have everything. Also, how long does this take? Thanks again for this great video.
@friendlymechanic9778
@friendlymechanic9778 6 ай бұрын
The link in the description is not for the magnetic version. I’m using a snap on brand magnetic socket but the brand doesn’t matter as long as it works. amzn.to/49eB9jg this link will take you a similar 10mm magnetic socket. But again you don’t “need” this, it’s just if you have it, I would use it. If you use a regular 10mm socket just hold on to the screw so it doesn’t fall down. And remember to start the bolts by hand they can cross thread easily.

It is only used for two bolts for the big metal brace that hugs the strut towers. One on either corner tucked away in the back. At 5:07 you see it. It’s in a circular part of the brace.

Do you recommend putting a small dab of dielectric grease on the end of the coil when reinstalling coil?
@friendlymechanic9778
@friendlymechanic9778 Жыл бұрын
No, I wouldn’t recommend it. It is not necessary and usually just makes a mess. In other car brands I have even found that the coil and plugs still get stuck together regardless if you use it or not.

Oh man that sucks, try to piece together what you have so you know what is missing. You can then get a boroscope from Amazon that connects to your phone I got mine for 80 dollars. Look around down in the cylinder to see if you find anything down there and try to fish it out.
