Just picked up my RCF a couple days ago. I didn't look at it as a performance car. It's a comfortable n/a 8 cylinder that has typical toyota/lexus reliability and comfort and sounds great. Getting older it's important to me knowing that I am not going to be beat up while driving. It's MORE than enough power for the streets... hell my 300hp subie is more than enough for the street. Loved the video! I'm looking at a summer only vehicle to augment my year round Giulia Estrema AWD. I think I really want a V8 as I'll likely be picking up an M340i after the lease on my Alfa is done. Have been looking at M550is but am concerned about reliability as there won't be new ones on the market in a year or two. That leaves Lexus and an NA V8 car, and I'm really thinking the RCF might be it. Used ones be had very cheaply, and with the Lexus reliability, it could be a 10 year + summer fun car for. Very intriguing proposition, and this video helped me out a lot. Thanks!

I just can't get over the LC's waste of space and weight with those 2 useless rear seats. The RC can actually seat 4 smaller adults, not very comfortably but it can be used in a pinch. The LC can't even seat 2 children in the back, yet by having those 2 seats you get an absolutely tiny trunk (for some reason much smaller than the RC's despite the LC being both longer and wider) and an enormous weight.

Bottom line is, the RCF has bulletproof drivetrain and that alone is a reason this car is awesome . It is also only reliable option no matter who is the competitor. My suggestion: Do same cars used (let's say 2015 model) with some decent miles on it (over 60K) and hook up and scanner to check for errors and malfunctions. Then do the review again.

Nice video. I own an ISF - was frustrated with the slow downshifts on throttle application, until I realized that for fast, aggressive, track-like driving, it started to make sense that the gearbox downshifts fastest when you're on the brake and off the throttle. I think it pairs well with the N/A powerband - the car is very engaging to drive, not just point and click.

There was no RCF owner there to give a balanced perspective. The C63 owner was fair and objective. M4 owner was absolute rubbish! Typical BMW biased, trash talker. Being an RCF owner who drove M4/M3 quite a few times. He is so clearly biased in weighting everything in his own favor. The M4 does not sound "nearly as good" as the RCF. It sounds absolutely dreadful Sounds like a lawnmower with that tin, flat noise. It is one of the most discussed weakness of the F80/F30 M cars on M boards! You cannot downplay it. If RCF was "underwhelmingly slow", you clearly did not know what you were doing. Since when did a mid-12 seconds car become an "underwhelmingly slow car"? The M4 is 3/10ths quicker in a 1/4 mile, which means that is less than 1% difference comparing stock to stock. Add to that, he has a 6 speed manual, which is slower than the DCT, he wanted to make sure he makes his own car look a lot better. I have an RCF carbon/TVD and would have loved to have been there to bring a more balanced perspective. Still, the C63 owner was fair and right on the money. M owner proved the typical snob attitude that BMW owners are known for.

KLRGT500KR I totally am familair with what you’re saying. I would have been the RCF “owner” as it was my press car for the week. Above 4000 rpm the Lexus IS 100% the one I want to be in. I think the turbo cars get people too familiar with being low in the rev band and that makes people think they’re slow. There’s a reason people like “high reving sports cars”
@KLRGT500KR
@KLRGT500KR 3 жыл бұрын
@@dwnshft I agree. the M4 made it sound like the car was underwhelming all around rather than seeing it has two distinct personalities. One is the laid back GT side and the other is the high rpm high performance side where everything sharpens and stiffens up in sports+/manual and TVD in slalom at high rpm. RCF should not be judged the way turbo cars with the way they delivery power. Yes, they have lots more torque, but that is what makes such a rewarding experience to have an RCF where you have to work for the power and it rewards the driver in return. Lots of revs and downshifts. It is like I said before in my other comment, you have to rev it like a Honda S2000 engine and it is the most rewarding experience and the flat/linear powerband all the way to nearly 7500 rpm. I felt the owner of the M4 did not assess it using the criteria RCF should be judged by. The M4 and C63 offer more torque, but the sound, high rpm experience and flat powerband/response of a N/A V8 offer its own advantages. That is why I chose to pick the RCF over the M4 or C63 since I wanted this dying breed and experience.

Only reason I would complain that its slow now its cause im so used to the power lol but its not as slow as most ppl make it seem to be. I swear it’s the “cool” thing for reviewers to trash the rcf and love German turbo charged cars that won’t go past 100k miles. It’s just the bias that reviews have towards “German automating” it’s almost like a club if you know what I mean. Yours was much more fair but you did refer to many of the same negative things most reviewers refer to about it( being heavy, sluggish, and slow) and from owning one it’s just not true so It’s hard not to think there’s a bit of that going on is all! @@TheTreehouseFamily I think many of the reviewers find the RCF to "feel" slow due to the lack in torque when comparing to the turbocharged German cars. Off the line the turbocharged cars have the advantage but from a roll the RCF is right next to them. I just feel that the other reviewers try too hard to compare the RCF in performance and forget it's naturally aspirated and puts the power down much differently and needs to be in the powerband to really show its potential.

@@Zelow. Nah, the RC is just slower, starting from any speed in any gear from any rev. There's no comparison in that regard. The vast majority of the people buying these cars rarely if ever take them to the track, and on the street the RC has the Germans beat in most regards.

I'm 54 and like the Keep It Simple Stupid Lexus RC-F.... BMW & Mercedes Simply Don't Build In Durability into their Products like Toyota Does....Yes when they Breakdown from Wear & Tear the Lexus Does Far Far Later and Its Something More Minor Than Major on the Vehicle....Lexus is the Vehicle that at 1-10yrs Old is Cheaper To Operate & Maintain at the Cost of Fractional Seconds of Performance

I agree, but will correct just because I’m a nazi about it, but Lexus gets the reliability and durability because of its parent company and I’m sure the parameters Lexus has to stay will as for as mechanically and how reliable the car will be because Toyota did create the brand and still owns them, Lexus IS a completely independently operated brand separate form Toyota with like I said maybe some guidelines they have to stay within because they don’t want their luxury brands cars to be unreliable for the sake of giving you unnecessary gimmicky tech and a turbo 6 or 8. But I’m not tryna say you said anything wrong I’m glad you addressed the mechanics of the car as Toyota which is 100% true and tuned by Yamaha, it’s just some ppl don’t understand Lexus and Toyota are separate brands and only share things mechanically for the sake of reliability.

I would pick the RCF for it’s better ride, reliability, higher resale value as well as a daily driver car, not to mention least cost of owner ship

C63 design is wack. Not appealing at all. Rcf design alone win me over the other 2.

Your point would be valid if that 3.0 engine didn’t have twin turbos and used Formula 1 technology, sadly it has both, and being a supercar it costs much, mcuh, much more.
