BMW UK Invited me out to the Nurburgring 24 hour race, they gave me this F90 M5 to drive out there, I swapped this with a M3 CS whilst at the N24. The New BMW M5 is a real all round weapon, I cant think of a better, more comfortable motorway/A road stormer, also the info of xDrive hasn't ruined anything, it has just given you miles more grip should you need or want it!

Fantastic review mate! I always enjoy how well rounded your reviews are, however by no means are they boring. And I know for a fact that is something difficult to do (while filming + while editing) while doing these things, as these trips usually are just so hectic. Watching this again as I've just bought one, collecting next weekend. Regarding the grip about the looks - if it didn't blend in the way it does, I wouldn't have bought it, I need a car that can blend in in the office car park when needed, and the M5, in Singapore Grey in this case, fits that bill nicely.

The reason why its so quiet when your cruising along in comfort modes etc is because the windows have some kind of acoustic coating on them; I've got a 540i xdrive & this has it also. PS I agree with your comments about it being 2 cars in 1, my cars the same, tho not quite as fast! of course. awesome vids by the way

Great review as always Joe. You're one of the few unbiased car reviewers, especially for someone who's been branded as Mr BMW. This would be my big Super Saloon of choice over an E63S. Lot's of people talk about how the E63 sounds better than the M5, I prefer the M5's noise more personally, I like the screamer V8 sound track more than the muscle car sound track of the Merc. Subjective like you said but I really like the look of the new M5, I think I'd get one in grey or silver just so it blends in even more. I noticed a few times from you different camera angles that the rev counter can be replaced by Sat Nav which is didn't realise it could do either. I just wish you actually could get this car in Wagon form. As I said great review & please do more, more often. Thanks.

Got to drive a BMW UK car about a month ago, albeit for only 20 mins. Ridiculously good car, comfortable, full of tech... first time ever I've jumped back in the m2 and it felt slow

You have great thorough reviews, it was really interesting seeing this one after seeing your F90 Competition review which is newer. Probably a "standard" M5 with a couple of engine, exhaust and suspension tweaks would work? I really like what Imran at Evolve has done to his car. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

stubones I know my local dealer hasn’t sold one yet. I suspect most of those cars are the ones each dealer bought (and can’t sell). Happy to wait as discounts and 0% finance will arrive.

Joe Achilles Agreed. Bring lent one for a few days - looking forward to it. Will have to be good to pull me out of M3. Put 763’s with Cup 2’s on, re-adjusted coilovers to suite and bloody hell its good.

A very close equivalent to the f90 M5 is an F10 competition pack M5. Other than the 4 wheel drive asset of the F90, inferior superior cabin aesthetics and 25 more HP and a few Nm more torque, the road performance is identical, except traction in wet conditions. The engine is the same retuned v8.

Good review buddy to be honest i like the look of the m5 f90 BMW xdrive is very good looks like its sticking to the road really well just go to show how good the zf 8 speed is people get so hung up in DSG for daily use zf 8 speed all day long.

Great video Joe, M5 takes its rightful place at the top of the Super Saloon market once again. Personally I think they look great but the black kinda dulls it’s look a little, maybe not the best colour. In my view the E63 looks very dated like all Mercedes with their latest design language.

Another great review. Far prefer these too the mess around boys on a jolly review. Subjective, well thought out and explained. Being a professional driver myself and having owned some of the cars you’ve reviewed you are spot on with your assessments 👍 Keep up the good work. Ps. You should try the Ac Schnitzer models. They transform the BMW’s to a whole new level. I Fitted their springs to my m135 a 335d previously and now the complete sports suspension to my m140. It’s stunning. I couldn’t believe how good it was 👍💪

Great review!! I love this car and your review makes me want this or the competition version even more. Do you think this would be an ok car for a daily driver to work (20 miles) or to stiff for comfort? Should I have this and a Suburu outback for my second car for work? Lol. Discussing with dealer now and I can’t wait to order. Tough to decide on color as well . I love the look of the matte silvers but have heard they are a nightmare to maintain?

I've just checked out the configurator on BMW website. You get to choose between a 'normal' and competition M5 but no exhaust options. How do you get the sport exhaust?

This engine in an M3 CS, that would be the ultimate BMW for me (looks and performance wise). Great vid as always. BTW what are the stickers in the rear door window behind you (e.g. here 3:58).

Hi Joe I’m considering buying a M5 but at my whits at is there much difference other than the suspension and slight BHP increase between the normal m5 and the competition? Any advice would be much appreciated. Would it bother you much if you went for a normal m5 for Uk roads etc

Cheers Neil. It's a hard one as I would want a wagon... The RS6 is about to be replaced so wouldn't be that, the E63S Estate is mega, but its ride is very harsh. Can I chose a B5 Touring ;-)

Sorry for asking... 28.5 mpg... UK? 10 l/100km? The reasons I ask are because of the difference (UK US) which would almost be 2l per 100 km and the tank range of around 450 miles.

The M3 CS is still my favourite, far better car when really pushing on, but the M5 is a brilliant all round package that's more practical and incredibly, more efficient too!?!?!?!
