Very helpful video. My timing chain has been making a lot of noise, especially under the valve cover at about 2k revs, I am waiting on getting a primary tensioner hoping that fixes it, if it doesnt I'll be tearing into the wonderful world of VANOS.

Hi, I have the same problem with cams chain on my M50. Have you solved te problem yet ? . I know u write this coment 9years ago, but I try my luck 😂

Hello! I got M50B25 non vanos engine,but i have 413 ecu and i have oil feed for vanos and cabel for that vanos thing. IS it possible to ad vanos ? If yes what i need ? Vanos + cams + valve cover ? Thx!

thanks for the info. I can see the turning tool makes it quite easy, but is it possible to turn the gear without this tool? (I would not like to buy this tool for one use only...) Thanks!

Do I need to turn the pulley to TDC and lock camshaft, or the flywheel before doing this without problem?

+Joe Gallardo If I am not mistaken you should be at TDC, not BDC with a flywheel lockpin in place before disassembly, although I myself am still confused how to Align the camshafts should you have to take off the head to replace the head gasket, I'd like to see a complete tutorial on such a procedure just so I understand it better.

when installed vanos on e36? do i need to turn the pulley to TDC and lock both camshaft, or the the flywheel? can i do exactly show on the video without adjusting the pulley to TDC. without problem?

The cams should always be locked at TDC when servicing with the timing components. As you notice, the secondary timing gear is rotating independently until you torque everything down, so the cam position is not affected.
