Personally I've got an m57d30 running 311bhp, has 160,000 miles and been running the remap for around 7 years (I knew the previous owner), still runs great and hasn't left anyone stranded. DPF and EGR delete is great if you can get it mapped out, swirl flap delete is a MUST. Look after these and they will last forever :)

a remap isn't bad for an engine depends who remaps it, bad remap bad tune so i dont know why he mention remap overall, ofc a remap will wear out stuff faster but hey... it feels like if u delete egr and DPF then ur kinda safe and reliabile enough

Questions: 1. How do you check if your EGR thermostat is working/failed? 2. How often should i change the EGR thermostat? every 50,000 miles? Every 3 year? any clue/idea for the lifetime? 3. How often should i change glow plugs? How many KM or miles does they last, or how many years? 4. How do you check if your DPF REGN sensor is working or not? 5. How do you now if the fuel pressure sensors (the one in the front and back of the enginge) is good/bad? How often should they be changed? 6. How often should i clean the injectors? and with which product? maybe a link? 7. You mentioned the vortex breather to be a part that we must change - after we change it, how long does it last? Would you recommend to change it again after a certain time? 8. You mention that the glow plug module/unit must be changed - is there an upgraded version, or is it the same stock module/unit, that just need to be changed often? And when should it be changed again, if its the same module/unit you are changing it with.. 9. what are your opinion on BMW's cooling system? whould you recommend to upgrade some of the cooling system parts? - Please like this comment, so Dean can see it an answer it, im sure that im not the only one with those unanswered questions - From a BIG fan of your channel, knowledge, videos and BMW M57 (525d LCI) owner.

I also have done 2005 X5 M57 3.0D. I've done all the things mentioned in the video and a stage 1 remap. All depends who is it done by. Mine was done by a German car specialist using software by a very expensive tuning company in Luxembourg. Fuel efficiency is better by about 25%, currently at 270bhp.

M57 loves a remap never heard of any major issues from remapping these at all, the 184hp (2.9L) version isn’t as tunable as the 204hp (3.0) but can still hold 250hp with a map, decat and swirl flaps removed, anymore and the pump will hit its limit
@sebastiantherre6806
@sebastiantherre6806 3 жыл бұрын
The engine itself isnt the problem with these remaps. but speaking of my own experience with a e46 FL with a GM 5 speed automatic gearbox, I can tell you this gearbox can not take a single pound feet of torque more than it already needs to take right now :p

Do you need to have the “EGR” mapped out after removing as it surly will bring up a engine light? I currently have a light on for the “egr” replaced and it’s still there so.. thinking of removing! Also is it true it’s best to remove DPF with the EGR removal as it can kill the turbo? Cheers

Hi Dean, please bear with me concerning my question. Just want to know if the 2007 - 2008 BMW E60 530D transmission can be fitted on the 2003 BMW E60 530D. I'm curious because the 2007 - 2008 transmissions are the only ones available in my area. Just checked the part numbers on BMW ETK and found them to be different.

Love your videos, I know your totally against Remaps, however… I bought a 56 plate 335d with 197k on it 7 years ago.. I bought it for speed, was the only 335d I could afford. Removed Dpf & cat, Ecotune mapped it to 380 bhp 700nm torque. She’s been on the track a few times and now has 272k on the clock. I change her oil a lot, she is still utterly magnificent…..maybe I’m just lucky. I’m going to change my vortex filter thanks to you, I have no idea if it’s ever been changed. I don’t think the gearbox oil has ever been replaced and I’m unsure whether to do it as I’ve heard conflicting advice, changes flawlessly.

People in the USA buy these specifically because they take power like a champ lmao. Many nearing 1000hp from big diesel shops that usually specialize in cummins but bought a few 335ds for daily drivers. Things will eventually break, but you gotta pay to play.

Brilliant advice as always Doc! To be perfectly honest I don’t see the need to remap the M57 . Torque as standard is really good and their fast enough as they are, if you need more power out of a 3.0 diesel then you need to move away from diesels and go M . All I have to do is change the fan clutch and then everything advised is done ! Mine is in. 46 touring and purrs like a kitten BTW the vortex breather.... is a must I had the bog roll on mine and it was caked in shit and could barely scrape it with a screwdriver! . Thanks Dean 🤙🏻

I have two 2001 E39s M57 (March and April 2001). No DPF and the EGRs are clean as a whistle on both. Swirl flap delete on the autos (manuals don't have swirl flaps) is essential, having said tthat my auto reached 100,000 miles wiith the swirl flaps, deleted immediately after I bought it. My manual had the turbo let go just after I bought it (60k miles) but that was put down to it spending a year or more on forecourts and the (non-BMW) dealer that sold it to me not doing a proper service. Deleting DPFs and EGRs will probably result in the car failing emmisions controls. M57s, if properly maintained, are pretty much bomb proof. Oil changes as per spec (10,000-15,000) miles with quality oil and filter are essential. Making sure that the crankcase breather filter is changed (often missed by BMW dealers and Indies) is also essential. Getting the filter version changed for the later washable version is agood preventative maintenance. Glowplugs and injectors are all good on both and are original. No timing chain noise on either of them. Proper maintenance, oil changes and filter changes with quality items will keep M57s running "for ever". The only unexpected failures on either of them have been the turbo on the manual, as mentioned above, and the water pumps on the two of them, conincidentaly at roughly the same age and mileage.

Good video, but 1 of my injectors failed, non mapped car, changed my glo plugs, & Module, was running rougher than a piece of 40 grit sand paper, Car eventually broke down , the only symptom to work on was the car wouldn't start, and I had detonation (Pinking) on restarting on a cold engine. Did a cylinder compression test to find No 2 was down bad, put a new injector in coded it, and smoked like hell but she fired and started and ran, and as run better everyday since changing it, I was told it was fuel pressure rail sensor, so I changed that, changed 1 of the vacuum solenoids, 1 that sits bottom of the inlet manifold, the fuel pressure rail regulator, at the fuel pump /end of line . service mine myself every 8000, castrol edge oil mann filters including the fuel one, injector 100% leak back mate , hence why the car wouldn't start, = no fuel rail pressure. Only code I had..
