You don’t realize how slow the stock TCU tune is until you have to flash back to it. Alpina flash is close to XHP stage 1. D mode should be called “gas saver” mode as it never goes much over 2200 RPMs. XHP S3 is very fun. Customizable shift points, downshift aggressiveness, and valet mode are my favorite adjustable options. FYI…when I switched from Alpina to XHP, my paddles went dead. I had to pay someone to code them back in.

Yes! I’d love to see you service the transmission. I’ve been needing to do that on mine as well. Could you include sound clips of this alpina flash as well? I’m sure it sounds a little better than the stock tune.

Done this on my car 18 months ago, D mode shifts at 1600rpm and I read somewhere for emissions reasons as the Alpina car was 400bhp+. S mode much better, downshift throttle blips but tbh i did it for the gear indicator!

When I first got my e92 xdrive with a zf6 I did the B3 flash to my surprise the transmission never would stop flare shifting 4-5. turns out the module number that I selected to flash was the incorrect B3 the DIY online and on a KZfaq video was incorrect. The B3 Alpena code that I flashed was for a generation 1 ZF6 the adaptation values were incorrect but the transmission mostly worked fine. You have to be careful when selecting the proper code identification to flash, do your own research and don't just follow somebody else's DIY.

To my knowledge my 335 has never had a trans flash and it holds the gear in auto stick. '07 6at

Im assuming it auto shifts because it has reached it's max rpm and changes to the next gear to prevent it from over reving it. I would say the dme takes over at that point. Im 6at and manualy shift depending what speed limit Im at. In D it's to low of a gear, S mode is cool but can hang in the higher rev range to long for my liking. So manual mode is how I lime to drive it.

Xhp stage 1 is the same as the alpina flash. The shift points are too low for my liking, loading the engine a bit too much for the Mhd tunes and risking superknock. The dme and tcm work in concert, the dme will wait for a signal from the tcm that it has changed gears before reintroducing power, you can fiddle with these settings in xhp at the expense of transmission life but it will keep the engine on power for more of the time. The dme also has set points which is why Mhd asks for transmission tune, type.

My 6AT shifts a lot faster and is still stock....as far as I know. I'm going to do a comparison on your video with my car. Mines running MHD2+ and got 118k on the clock. I'm wrapped your doing these videos as I'm tossing up XHP. Great work as always Andrew. Love your work.

If you don’t see d1 in normal drive mode she’ll be stock. Best way to check you actual shift speed is with a dragy. Or something that accurately graphs g force under acceleration.

Just put of curiosity, what do you prefer, the saloon or the coupe 335i? For ages I was looking for a coupe but ended up going for a saloon that came up, with all the things i wanted in it I sometimes sit and wish I got a coupe because i think they look better, but also think the saloon looks better Love to know what yous think, love the detailed vids regarding the transmissions on this chasis

what fluid do you use for ur 6at 335i? saw you had penrite for DCT but unsure if you use penrite for 6AT

Did you reset solenoid adaptations when fluid was flushed? I think the factory ZF software only adapts for a few weeks from new then stops. Maybe flashing Alpina S/W it reset these adaptation values.

I have XHP but very interesting to hear the differences between the two options, Have you ever come across anything that changes the Elsd? I have a Mfactory diff , I like to leave the traction control on but would like it to be a little less aggressive and not cut power as easily and allow some slip, I don't want to change the stability control unless there is some way of it allowing some slight drift

Unfortunately you can only code out the e-diff not change it. Mind you all that does is apply one of the rear brakes if it senses one wheel is spinning faster than the other while going straight. You can go all out fit a m3 dsc unit then run m dynamic traction but it’s a mega retro fit.

Dsc let’s me break traction ok tires a little bit nothing to spin out but I will rotate u I agree tho dsc off the car cuts power like crazy

I've been re-watching the "2nd to 3rd rpm drop" footage and I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. I'm not seeing anything my car is doing different to yours or anything that seems strange to me but I'm not there and not feeling or seeing what you are so.....Grain of salt I guess LOL. I do think however that it shouldn't be shifting in Manual mode after hitting the red line right off like that. Maybe after two or so seconds of bouncing off the limiter but I'll need to test my car in this to confirm that this is what they all do or not etc. I seem to remember that it doesn't shift fast in manual like yours is as I've accidentally hit the paddles with my finger/knuckle/hand while in Sport mode and unknowingly changed it into manual mode, then, being surprised that the car is revving like mad at the top of the limiter when I thought it was in sport auto I frantically scramble for the gear leaver or to flip it into the next gear etc. I remember having done this a couple of times (I could never have made a mistake more than twice that's for sure LOL! SO yea it didn't just immediately shift to the next gear when red lined in manual from my memory in stock tune.

What is that bit of hesitation at 13.09 when you're in 2nd gear at just over 3000rpm? I'm experiencing something similar on my 6HP21, and have been trying to figure it out. It does it in both S and M modes.

I really need your advice bro gonna be doing my XHP stage 3 tune on my Zf6 speed on the E93. I'm going to buy the wireless MHD dongle thing(as upload and download are meant to be faster). Will i need to use a battery charger when i do the flash???

You really should have a charger. We actually bought a cheap powerful one last week. I’m in two minds about it. For the occasional home use it’s probably sweet. Will have a vid on it tomorrow. It was like $40aud and is rated to 30a charge rate which is hige

When searching for a manual for “the stable”, grab an Xi. You might rewrite the N54 record book, its uncharted territory compared to RWDs.

Hi, could you support with some info about how to distinguish which alpina flash is better for my 6hp26/28z (diesel), I have an xhp but after 1.5 year of experements I don`t like it using in daylily driving looks like shifting 1-2-3 slippering, and then everything ok, also if I push accelerator little bit more to go faster it just slippering and try to shift to lower gear! Crap! Now I am on stock nothing special but for daily it is better for sure, also it accelerates faster by just pressing accelerator, without any redundant shifts.

If that is the case, there is internal issues with your transmission. That would have nothing to do with which tune is on there. You will need to have it internally sorted. xHP can feel like alpina with custom settings. xHP is ultimately better.

Could you give me some hint what would be the issue? All transmission diagnostic values from xhp and ista are just fine. Xhp is not the only solution I had, custom flash also was flashed and there was no any issue with switching on a lower rpms. But soon I want to experiment a little with xhp and it didn’t make a backup🤦‍♂️ now I try another ways to solve that strange behaviour, went back to stock is the best result for now.

i would guess either an oil pressure issue, so oil pressure is not making it to the clutches. or it is worn clutches. the bridge seal will causes similar symptoms@@rostyslavpaliuha225

Yeah the tunner who made custom firmware, told me that xhp can’t figured out the pressure, but his firmware did it perfectly.

Not an alpina one, but there are many DCT flash options in winkfp. The 135i, 335i, 335is DCT flashes all have different behaviour. You can also go all out, fit a M3 shifter, m3 diff, DSC and few other bits and then load the e92 M3 DCT flash, with adjustable launch control. However i think xHP on the DCT is a no brainer. Especially if you are running big power. If you are closer to stock i would probably go with the 135i flash which has the lowest launch rpm.

@@gabgab2757 Hi Gab, i am running xHP now, so unfortunately i can't do a winkfp flash on my car, it will wipe my xHP flash. But there are plenty of threads out there. The main thing you will gain is a different launch rpm during launch control.The DCT doesnt really suffer from lazy shifting like the ZF6. The 335is flash may have slightly higher clutch pressures but probably not a problem on your setup.

The Alpina flash isn't bad but XHP is faster and allows a lot of customisation including shift points, shift speeds, throttle blips, torque reduction etc plus higher line pressures, even torque limiting per gear.

For people that ask about power supply, is easy to build your own power supply just get power supply from computer server, and you will have easy 14v@80A for less than 50$, just search bmw psu diy you will find many options. I have 2 power supply from server conected and i am able to have over 14v@150A witch is enough for any car and i do not spent more than 60$.
