BMW S 1000 R - an absolute beast and an awesome motorcycle refreshed for 2021+. I'm going over what it feel like to ride it now and one thing that went wrong again. BMW, fix this and you'll have a perfect naked bike! With slightly Japanese-like look and rubbish mirrors, but that's not what the R is about. My Instagram page: thevtold
The 2021 S 1000 R shown in the video belongs to BMW Liberty Motors dealership in Piaseczno (Warsaw), Poland and there you can test ride it: libertymotors.pl/

My 2018 S1000R weight 197kg after changing to Akra Ti Full System, replacing seat cowl and mirrors. 195kg is possible with forged wheel. I have a love hate relationship with the front face but the new one looks generic, while the old, authentic.

Got a 2015 in Black and had it from new - awesome bike. Just put some handlebar risers on it which make it a bit comfier. Also a decent touring screen and a rad guard and it's a great tourer. Have a standard exhaust and the pop and burble makes me smile every time I ride it. Brilliant bike.

I think that handlebar risers could help to even further counter what BMW have done here with this newest generation. I felt fine on the 1st gen, so I guess what you suggest would make a lot of sense especially on this newest one.

I wish I could tell you more but I've not ridden a Street Triple. All I could judge is how a name sounds in comparison with "S1000R" at this point. However, I've heard a lot of good stuff about those Street Triple bikes from Triumph, so I guess you might be on a pretty decent machine there. I like S1000R but I doubt if I would ever choose one for myself, especially now with its second generation.

Was considering this or the new 2021 Ducati 950S SuperSport - I went with the Ducati. It does not have the same level of power, but the Ohlins felt better than the electronic suspension on the BMW, and the Ducati is (in my view) better-looking, with somewhat effective wind and weather protection. I also looked at all the tech that comes with the BMW, and worried about how much it would cost to fix when it breaks in a few years... I have owned a BMW car before, and they are not something to own without a warranty or your own personal repair shop!

@@VToldsMotoShow I would usually agree - Ducati seems to be getting better, and there are fewer things that are 'fancy electronics' on it (no keyless ignition, no headlights that 'move', and a few other things), and there are two fewer cylinders - it might help? hah!

I'm pretty sure that technically this is possible. If there are specific accessories out there already - this would require checking and making sure that all wires and hoses have enough of additional length to be lifted further. But where you're going with it could be a brilliant idea. Ducati does that with their XDiavel I believe.

If you'd be into sitting in a much more sporty position, having a stiffer suspension, and likely a bit more agility, then yeah - why not? S1000R would give you all that in comparison to an XR. However, I just realized that you meant the 2018, so perhaps the "R" might not the so much more stiff than the 1st generation S1000XR.

Came back and looked at the new silver One they had on display in the showroom and bought it, the difference between each generation is very noticeable but this all new model puts its Two older sisters in the shade, ride One and you will understand.

Good question that if I were you, I'd search for an answer to on a BMW forum or ask it there. People do lots of things to their bikes and maybe somebody already tried doing it. However, if a technician (not a salesperson!) says that the parts are different, I wouldn't play with that. Even though I wonder what the difference could really be. 220mm rear disk for such a bike like this 😲😲😲😲😲 Is it ok or needs upgrade?
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's totally not necessary to upgrade the brakes here. Size doesn't seem to matter that much here I believe. Especially that it's very easy to lock the rear wheel, so it means that the brake isn't too weak. Of course ABS immediately kicks in so that the wheel keeps rotating but the stopping power of the rear brake alone isn't great because of a lack of traction, not because of the brake not being powerful enough. I'm pretty certain about that. Hope this helps.

7:18 This happens if you hold yourself on the handlebar while accelerating, which you should not do, because the influence of the wind is transferring into the handlebar through your arms. If you dont hold the handlebar too firmly while accelerating, it will not wobble. While accelerating from/to higher speeds, just hold yourself with your tighs on the tank, tuck forward without applying force to the handlebar and you'll be fine. (I own the S1000R and experienced the same thing)
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 11 ай бұрын
I prefer holding the bars firmly and I guess that BMW should expect riders to do that if they want to stay on the bike instead of fly away. Also, rolling the throttle open requires you to hold the grip rather firmly, doesn't it? I do blame the chassis in this case and it's quite specific to the S1000 platform as it used to be very much present there in the S1000XR of the 1st generation too.
@M1NDF1ELDS
@M1NDF1ELDS 11 ай бұрын
@@VToldsMotoShow i agree, the S1000R chassis is prone to this wobble thing, bmw could have it done better. But apart from the wobble topic, i learned in driving school not to hold yourself on the handlebar, so i consider this part of driving skill

Sure, I’d use it, especially with the OEM luggage, to go about my daily errands and grocery shopping, but as soon as I had some time I’d head to the twisties outside the city. Seems crazy to think people would mostly ride this in the city. Apologies if I’ve misunderstood.

I personally do ride mostly in the city and regardless of that, this is where I see that naked bikes are supposed to be used, if one is not as lucky to live in a countryside with great roads or in the mountains. For faster riding I'd only proceed with motorcycles with any kind of wind protection hence my conclusions.

Personal opinion. I like the new model because it is innovative and up to date for 2022, but I will buy the model 2019-2020 because it is the most proven model with 8 years of history and all defects are removed as much as possible and asymmetrical headlights are recognized in the crowd. Everyone knows that this is a BMW, you can't confuse it. The most important thing is that it can be bought for € 13k and up to 3000km from an authorized BMW dealer with all the extras / options and a two-year warranty. The new model will cost $ 22k if it is fully equipped with extras. The verdict is more than clear.

New S1000R is a lovely package, but keyless is a pain in the arse. You’re always searching for your keys. Here’s an idea, why don’t they design a key holder on the bike….. it could take the form of an keyed ignition lock. 👍 The asymmetrical front on the older model was iconically BMW; the front of the new model now looks like any other naked bike - sadly.

Really BMW bikes give you the best build quality? I had 2014 s1000rr and now the 2019 s1000rr m package and I find the build quality very disappointed for the price and for BMW flagship race bike. Very low-quality plastics everywhere It's something I expect on cheaper Suzuki bikes, not BMW. Also, Going cheap on the brakes which are great on the street but kinda lacking on longer track sessions. I find Ducati bikes to have the best build quality all fit perfectly with top-spec details that really look and give you the feeling of a premium bike the only thing that rivals Ducati in this is triumph. I think you're mistaking build quality with the smooth feel of the engine and electronics. Other than that they're amazing bikes and blast to ride.

The definition of quality or rather perceiving quality may be in fact different. Engines and electronics aren't the case I think as I've been riding a variety of bikes, BMWs and others, for years and my perception has been the same basically from the beginning. Now the way that the switches look, feel and "click" I do count, I also consider how smoothly the handlebar works, how solid certain elements feel and how they look. I believe that this would reflect how I judge this aspect.

@@VToldsMotoShow I was two, but after testing both I went with the Tuono the midrange power, engine sound and character is on another level, also it produces less engine heat than the street fighter and provides way more wind protection as well.

@@VToldsMotoShow all I can say is mine tours ok, where most of the trips I do are quite deliberately on twisty secondary roads avoiding motorways where possible - but it sits ok on motorways. I am sure there are bikes that tour on long open roads better, but I cannot, for me, see any benefit in getting a less fun bike for those trips. Each to their own.
