I live in the USA in an area that requires emissions testing (via the onboard diagnostic system) and if the Service Engine Soon light is on they won't even test it because it's an automatic failure. I have a 2013 128i with the N51 SULEV engine, an AFE Stage 3 cold air intake, aftermarket stainless steel headers, a secondary cat delete, a full Magnaflow exhaust, and a custom tune to eliminate the SES light for the deleting of the primary converters. Recently I have been getting a SES light for the secondary air injection system, and I tested the pump (works perfectly), I removed and cleaned the valve that the pump blows into (that attaches to the head that has a split flange and seems to be the check valve) and it functions perfectly, but when I started the pump I wasn't getting any air out of the exhaust, so I'm being lead to believe that the cylinder head ports for the SAI system are plugged with carbon. I run nothing but 93 octane fuel, so idk. Any ideas other than to remove the cylinder head for cleaning?

I've done it in 2013 on a E46. I also built a simulator for the SAP so I had no errors.

What do you think about MANNOL oil. It can be used for N57 engines.

George, I've got one of these, an ex fleet car that had done 201,000 miles by its first MoT at three years old (which it failed!). Recently it developed a misfire, initially just on one cylinder (sorted by replacing the odd assortment of plugs) but more recently it was misfiring on all twelve, running very rough. Is this likely just to be a lambda/O2 sensor as I suspect or are my injectors knackered?

How u do the delete mapping?

On my similar age Porsche I accidentally left my secondary air system disconnected. It generated a fault code after a few drives from cold. However no check engine light. US Porsche do give a check engine light. I suspect the BMW will be the same. Manufacturers tend to leave the light off where can legally get away from it. Saves warranty claims...

Hi George. Have just watch your video on removing the secondary air injection, what a great job. You mentioned having spare covers for the back of the cylinder head, or if not, what is the possibility of a parts dimension drawing, I may be able to get them made. On another point, is there the possibility of ISTA being available without me having to rebuild my lap top. I found a supplier on eBay, but it requires having a SATA type drive connection, which my lap top doesn't have and changes being made to the start up BIOS. If you would rather reply on a different medium, I am a subscriber. Great job.

I had my camshaft and cylinder head changed after the car failed to start. Then after it would misfire and smoke. Then had the crankshaft sensor, fuel injector and a coil plug changed. The issue came back, I’ve run out of money and don’t know if I should trust a garage. I have a bmw 318i 2009 Any advise would be helpful

Hi George, I keep seeing that you shouldn’t do any coding without a voltage regulator. Do you use anything when coding? I have a battery charger but reading that’s not good enough.

If you want more power from this, the way to go is more displacement. Obviously there's the Rolls-Royce 6.75 engine, but Mansory of all people did a stroker crank (presumably bought in from a third party supplier) which took the 6.75 up to 7.5 litres. Bearing in mind the N73B60 doesn't make peak torque until 3950rpm, only 2050rpm before peak power, extending the stroke from 80mm to 94mm would give a massive increase in torque. Birds of Iver also offered a 97mm crank for the closely related N62 V8... just not sure if there could be any issues with rod clearance in the narrower bore N73B60 (the N62B44 shares the Phantom's 92mm bore and the N62B48 went up to 93mm). It would be possible to sleeve the block if you were really feeling ambitious. Eight litres' displacement could be doable... 780Li anyone?! Definitely thinking of doing a build like this on mine one day when I have some money...

Hey mate, bit off topic but I've recently bought a 2010 120d m sport. I love been getting rather poor fuel economy on it, about 27mpg with fun driving and about 35mpg with granny driving, any ideas what the cause Is?

SAP deletes are common on e46's.

I have the same system on my 1999 E38 v12, even the same main components. They have never given any problems, so I really struggled to see the point of doing this. Best of luck doing anything with the twin DMEs..

Extremely common option to do a smog pump delete. Aka 2ndary delete for VW Passat 1.8T. U can purchase pre-made chip plug ins that prevent code to be tripped. You being British may be a problem. Here in certain parts of US we don't get our cars inspected b4 being able to drive them. Officers often will stop yuh if something is out hand like no exhaust, oil burning, and so on.

The secondary air pump system wasn't fitted to cars in hot countries, hence the BMW available blanking plug
