@@ecurepair thanks. So i did this today because first locksmith didn't seem to know that all you needed is to pull DME ISN. He took the CAS4 module and played around with his 'Xtool'. I knew he wouldn't be able to do it as he didn't have a working key or the ISN. He seems to have messed up the coding in the process because during immo status scan, I'm getting a '9308E0 Cas no current coding data stored'. Is there a way to get the coding if there's no backup of it? I tried the 'repair coding' on the autel but that doesn't seem to do anything. Before pulling the ISN, I already knew something was wrong as I'm getting 'unknown frequency' when I checked vehicle frequency.

You always disconnect battrey when disconnecting any module. This applies to every electronic cellphone ,laptop, or car. You remove the battery before disconnecting anything. I just had a guy swap pcms with key on two chargers just to move another car because he was too cheap to have me make a key, and one pcm no longer works. So he paid me for a new key and programming new pcm. This is European. You definitely need to disconnect the battery. There are probably 30 modules in this car. It's not something people just say I have seen multiple pcm/ecm/tcm go bad this way. You don't wanna be programming a new DME over 1 bolt.

its pretty accessible so you should have plenty enough room to read it with out unbolting it.

By bmw explorer no need to remove dme u can read ISN obd
