Hi I'm in the UK, i have a BMW x5 2005 e53 4.8is 99545 miles, I've converted it to run on LPG, done lots of work on it, and at the moment it's having the transmission fluid, filter change, ive alrrady changed the engine oil, coils, filters etc, 4 new 20inch tyres, new xtrons head unit, new complete rear light assemblies, instrument cluster being refurbished at the end of the month, then later this year, new alloy wheels. Thanks for the video, best wishes to you, Andrew 🏴🏴👍👏👏

That is check fluid level. Need to turn the car on while in P and pumping fluid until it spill out. If want to precisely, Use temperature gun and measure temperature between 30-34°C point at the fill/check plug. Open fill/ check level plug and let excess fluid come out. Quickly close the plug, and turn off engine.

Great video, i wish i had a mehanic like you in my country. I own 2002 e53 4.6is with zf5 gearbox with 218 000 kilometers behind him now. I invested a lot of love , care and money into that car and actually solved a lot of issues that previous owner collected before selling it to me and there is this one last thing that is bothering me, when the car is cold everything is fine , but when it warms up it starts to do this weird knock while stopping (from 2nd to 1st gear) , not allways, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it does it soft , sometimes it does it harder and i dont like it. As i found out my mechanic didnt replace gearbox oil properly as it should , 2 years ago he just drained old one and filled the new one and thats it. He had to change my gearbox oil because my gearbox oil cooler broke and mixed gearbox oil with coolant. During those events i had gearbox error code and went trough a lot trouble with that car. Replaced all hoses as they snapped one by one and 100 other things. Now it practically has new cooling system and behaves a lot better. No more error codes on gearbox but still that knock from 2nd to 1st wont let me sleep

Thanks for the lengthy comment. Read this article. You will understand the inner working of the transmission better. sayyarti.wordpress.com/2015/01/20/everything-about-your-zf-automatic-transmission-issues/

@@filipskalic3376 Yes, thats true, when the ac is on, rpm is a bit higher, and that makes that shift smoother. I have observed many instances the transmission acting that way.

Thanks for your tips about the MAF reading on my 4.8is. I noticed that it was slow to go into reverse (2 - 3 seconds). Do you think a filter change and new ATF would fix this, or it may be a solenoid/valve body issue? It has 170k miles, but no codes or slipping.
@beastcarsnj8682 жыл бұрын
I proud try the fluid and filter first. Reset adaptations, and see what happens. If that doesn't help. Valve body time.

Hello boss, I’m trying to add treatment for the gearbox oil. I have x5 v8 2006. Any recommendations how to do it? Thanks
@beastcarsnj8684 жыл бұрын
Hey, I would honestly avoid adding anything besides lifeguard 6 to these gearboxes. But if you must, start the car cold, quickly open the fill plug, and before the car warms up add some of the additive. But again, I would advise against adding anything but the oem fluid to these boxes.
@wmatt93154 жыл бұрын
Thank you boss, I won’t add anything. 👍

@beastcarsnj8682 жыл бұрын
You probably have an issue with the valve body, solenoids or low fluid. I would get a reman valve body and solenoids from a reputable source and change it out with fresh filter and fluid. See what happens.

When you do a drain and fill its usually 5.5 to 6 litres. If you drain everything its 9 litres.

Hey i need your help … i have the 3.0d m57 engine do i need to use the zf6 transmission fluid? Or any other fluid is ok??
@beastcarsnj8682 жыл бұрын
Hey. Zf6 is designated for the 6 speed zf transmission. If that's the one you have, then yes.
@vnyeu2 жыл бұрын
@@beastcarsnj868 just use any full synthetic transmission fluid will do.
@beastcarsnj8682 жыл бұрын
@@vnyeu I'm sure it will work. But I'm my experience, I've tried valvoline, and mobile 1 fluids in zf 6hp* transmissions, and they all shifted funny after. Once back to zf fluid, the would go back to oem shift quality. Might be anecdotal evidence, but was enough for me to just use zf fluid.

Boss I need your help, how to check if the transmission have enough oil? Can you explain please, thanks
@beastcarsnj8684 жыл бұрын
1) The transmission fluid temperature must be between 30°C and 35°C before checking can begin. Use an appropriate scanner to determine the trans temperature. 2) The vehicle must be level with engine running at idle speed and air conditioning turned on. 3) Step on the brakes firmly, apply parking brake fully and shift to D and R, briefly pausing in each position before shifting back to the Park position. 4) With the engine running at idle speed and the selector in Park position, remove the filler plug. Monitor the transmission temperature, if a small stream of oil runs out at 40°C, the fluid level is correct. 5) If no oil runs out when the filler plug is removed, the fluid level is too low and oil needs to be added until it overflows. 6) With engine running, install the oil filler plug and tighten to proper torque

Is it safe to change transmission fluid and filter One change was done at 40,000 miles now it’s at 180000?
@beastcarsnj868 Жыл бұрын
I'll be honest with you, people have done it. And had no issues. But I would be weary.. I would do a series of micro changes. Drain the trnas, save the fluid, change the filter. And put the fluid back. Just swap 2 quarts for fresh fluid. Then in a few weeks. Drain again, and change 2 more quarts. It's more of a minor refresh, rather than a shock to the system.
