in this video I show you how to remove your spark plugs on the N52 engine now the reason I done this is because Bmw changed the design on the spark plug to stop the ROUGH IDLE as bmw realised the rough idle people was moaning about was to do with the older version spark plugs not providing the correct spark and not sitting deep enough in the cylinder for the fuel to burn while idling hence the rough idle so in this video I go through the correct ones to use since 2009 and the proper ones MOST if not all people are still running on the older version spark plugs so do go and check yours now

Hey man thanks for these videos. I had an E89 with the N54 engine and thought it was a maintenance nightmare because I had no idea that normal people could replace things like ignition coils and fuel injectors. Now I am buying another E89 with the N52 engine and I feel confident I can work on it myself and save a ton of money. Really appreciate your work.

Hello Dean does this plugs 12122158253 fits in the old n52b25 engine from 2005.I recently noticed after changing the old sparks with ngk laser iridium now the car rough idle and shakes on cold starts solenoids are oem new both disa flap oem new too both o2 sensors and maf sensor new.I changed the ignition coils with 6 new delphi.Just to note when the weather is cold around 0 degrees and colder iddling # shaking is not coming on cold starts.Do i have to change old laser plugs (they are only on 4000km) with theese if they fit cuz it writes they fit only in 2009 models or its no problem.Or i should search for the problem otherwise

My personal recommendations for replacement plugs for bimmers are Bosch. If older M20, 30 etc... Bosch Platinum 2 plugs. Newer, m50, 52, 52tu, m54 etc... Bosch Platinum 4. If it came with (older) copper plugs, step up to platinums. If it came with platinum, Irredium step up is ok or good as long as electrodes are set up the same. Bosch for BMW my 1st choice.

Hi Dean so the old plugs Im using now are the longer version ones in length as you would know so the ones your using the ones recommended by BMW are the shorter ones so for my n52 E60 525i these plugs are suitable???

I have a early production E90 330i and replaced my spark plugs at 60K with the original NGK ILZFR6D11 and all the ignition coils with the updated ones(original ones not available). The reason I did not replace spark plugs with updated ones is because the car with running great. They were also in good shape (no oil, burned tips). I have also been changing the oil every 5K miles (or 6 months) and cleaning/swapping the vanos solenoids every 30K miles. I am at 105k miles now and the engines runs perfect other than the recent increase in oil consumption. I found lots of oil in upper DISA valve. The CCV is my next project. To my knowledge the car has never had a software update. Will replacing the spark plugs and vanos solenoids with the updated versions cause problems? Thanks

No problem just make sure you buy genuine bmw solenoids and STOP cleaning them it doesn’t work the videos you see on KZfaq was all a LIE no truth in any of that if you update you must use BMW one I’m telling you now you go and use cheap ones your car will be destroyed and run like crap immediately

@@BMWDoctor Thanks. Never had any problems with the solenoids-only cleaned them as preventive maintenance. I think clean oil (frequent oil changes) is key to the longevity of the solenoids. When it comes to BMWs, I am a firm believer in preventive maintenance. Never had any common N52 issues: water pump, spark plugs, eccentric sensor, ignition coils..etc..took care of all these before they became an issue. . Runs like a champ at 105k miles and everything works. Drive it spirited everyday. Thanks for all the great videos. Your channel is a gold mine for a BMW DIYer.

Can you remove the plastic engine cover without taking off all the plastic and cabin air filter above it? On my old E60 i had the M64 engine and if i needed to change a coil i could remove the cover without removing any plastics above it. It was so easy but now i have a n52 e60 and was wondering if its the same and maybe i could squeeze that cover out without the hassle of of taking plastics off. Thanks

Did the new spark plugs solve the problem. I’m trying to burn Oil of mushroom or we’ll lose power plug taken a problem I have put 1000 miles on it haven’t checked them again

I've changed my spark plugs recently, qnd the have some oil on the top of It, doesn't seem like It was from the combustion chamber. What might cause it? There were no oil leaks coming from valve cover gasket qnd from the valvetronic seal.

Usually it leaks via the oil fill hole gasket in the case itself it can leak out of there aswell so be carefull with that are you sure you checked your valvetronic seal as they leak when the oil level gets up to temp and at the top

are theres plugs for all n52 mate i rang up bmw in new zedland they gave me the single electrode spark plug code. its 2006 130i im going to get some four electrode plugs for it thanks

You are correct there was a leak from oil filter housing gasket until I changed it with genuine one

Yeah mate. I’ve just had to have rocker cover gasket changed and nox sensor. I’ve got the 325i 3.0 litre N53 engine. Any more common faults I should be looking for on this model
