Hi Lee funny i was just noticing the amount of energy the car uses ever time you touch the fob , I have just recently changed the water pump and was running the circulation procedure twice i find that once is not enough each cycle is around 12 min.. i had my smart charger hooked up and with the lights on and heater going its drawing almost 10 amps. Thanks for the update to maintain the battery life .

I am going to use the BMW trickle charger for the first time before going away for a few months. The device asks me to choose a battery type, AGM Flooded or Lithium. I have no idea which to choose! And I can't find anything in the manual that tells me which type of battery I have. My BMW is a 2015 328i. Thanks for your help.

A trickle charger is more of a luxury than a necessity. However, they aren’t really that expensive, and it’s definitely a nice tool to have around. ！！！

Gary olbison generally NO. they only have current when hooked up to a battery so they won’t spark. Best way to test would be to connect to a battery and check the voltage with a multimeter.

How would you know if you need a new battery? My 2008 335i doesn't have any problems and I don't think the battery has been changed

asif naseri the car will shut off stuff to save on battery power when the battery is running down (mpg display, halos not coming on, other lighting, etc)

They both are made to drive if your commute is short trips don't get either. If your daily is over 10 miles running 2500+ rpms normally BMW for the win.

I've just changed/registered my new battery, it was the OEM. It was 11 yrs old on my 5 series (2006) the date was on the battery so if you guys are changing battery after 5 years then there must be something wrong with your cars.

peter vaughan Typically BMW batteries only last 5-7 years at most on these cars since they draw a lot of power. I've never heard of one going for 11 years, ever, so props on that!

I've been using a Ctek charger the last few years on my E90. It still has the original battery and is 10 years old this month.

DodgeCity111 10 years is crazy! That's not the norm at all. Ctek does make a good trickle charger!

If I am coding a module in my BMW can I just use a battery charger to help keep the voltage steady? This one guy is to me trying to push his server power supply mod to make sales and he is telling people not to use a regular battery charger to code.

hey Lee, so you need a trickle charger when you know you're not going to be driving your car that often. but what about the battery life in your BMW key fob; how do you charge that or do you just simply get a new... battery for it?

kevin p the key fob will charge when in the car. You can't remove the battery if it stops charging, so have to get a new key fob programmed. Which Armando has a great price on that of course 😀

BMW Fanatic oh i thought once the key fob battery dies, all you need to do was get a new small flat circle battery for it... But yes i know mr. Diaz is the guy!
