I really enjoyed the take "he wants to be like his dad". Whil I still think it is about the fact that Bo is heavily struggling and wishes for things to be better for himself and referring the life his dad had as a reference as to what he would have wanted to have, you take is really wholesome and thinking about it warms my heart a little

I viewed his message as more opertunity in his fathers generation like when he said his dad was happier than he is

I’d be interested in your perspective if you don’t mind sharing it? When the topic of privilege comes up, a lot of people will either dismiss, deny or belittle the concept. The reason they cite is often some version of “I’ve had hardships, I come from a poor family, I work hard, I earned everything I have,... Therefore, the concept of privilege is BS, blah blah blah wokeism bad”. And I understand how, to a person who isn’t aware of the discourse, that opinion could seem intuitively correct. Except that the answers to these points have been deconstructed, and explained many, many times over, by a ton of people. They have been told, “that’s not what privilege means, it means X”. But they persist. Sorry so wordy lol My question is, as a cis het white guy who is open to the ideas, why? Why do so many cis het white guys pretend to be oblivious on this? (Thanks for your time if you have it. Disclaimers disclaimer, blah blah hashtag not all lol

I'm Actually online right now so I will share a few thoughts. I think people blow it off or dismiss it because it is a hard pill to swallow. I get it, coming from a poor family and having to work for what I've had I get why people say it, but people fail to forget as white people we live (At least in the US) in a system designed by the white race designed to benefit the rich white society. So yes life is hard for a lot of us but at it's core we have hidden privileges that make life easier even if we don't see it. Just because someone doesn't get rich or whatever they think people mean when they say "privilege" doesn't mean it's not there. IDK if that makes sense but there are many things in life that are just inherently easier because of it. There's way more I could say about what Ive experienced personally with some of my best friends, and I think seeing that has really changed my perspective as Ive gotten older. I feel as if people haven't seen it right in front of them they will dismiss it as if it isn't there.. Anyways I hope you get something out of that lol.

@@VentureFirst I think I may have worded the question badly lol *I* know what privilege and systemic bias means, and I know how a person can arrive at the conclusion that privilege doesn’t exist; they are *incorrect*, but I see how they came to that conclusion. No one is born a sociologist. But ignorance has a cure. I hear a cis het white guy say “I don’t feel privileged, therefore privilege isn’t real”, and then someone explains what privilege actually is, and then bro just repeats his ignorance as though he didn’t JUST have it explained to him. And that pattern repeats itself a thousand times. It’s like on this one subject and on this subject only, their brain suddenly doesn’t understand how definitions work. Cognitive dissonance can’t be where it stops Anyway. I’m being wordy again. Worse this time, actually lol Thanks again!

@@Time_Is_Left I think the first problem I have is people labeling other people so easily. "Cis het white guy". I don't want labels like that, and a lot of people I know and speak to (from many backgrounds, genders and sexualities) also don't want to be labeled in a way. Second, saying everyone who doesn't agree with your way of thinking as "incorrect" (or *incorrect*) or ignorant. I agree, some people are closed minded, and not open to change, different oppinions or the socially acceptable way of thinking at the current time, but it's not helpful to say "my way or the highway" in a way of thinking. I think privilage definitely exists, and we can all do something to combat it, but it doesn't have to be obvious, outspoken things, sometimes acceptance is the best way forwards. Thirdly, you only mentioned guys, whereas I know as many woman who feel the way as many of my male friends do. It's a massive problem that it's seen as a male problem and not a problem for everyone.
