My first impression was that I wasn't going to like this video because you seemed a little cocky. Now whether that is reality or just my perception, who knows. Anyway I watched the video to the end, then I watched it again and I watched it again. So I changed my mind. I do like your video. It is great demo of your skills and I think it is a good teaching video. You do a good job of breaking down the transitions so that even inexperienced can see what you are doing. And truthfully one of the better Bo tutorials I watched to date. So if my first impression was wrong, I apologize. If I was right... well if I was that good I might be a little cocky too. Either way, I think I'll keep watching.

thank you for your comment :) I remember that I had absolutely no idea how to do this. I've never made a tutorial video before so there I stood and thought 'well then, what should I show? - maybe start with the combo, emphasize on the details and show some applications'. It was kinda challenging for me and I'm quite satisfied because I think of myself a little camera shy which makes filming tutorials always a bit difficult ;) anyways thank you :)

Andres Cotto the very first spin was not meant to be an effective part of this video. I just didn't know how to begin. I'm sorry if that was the source of your confusion. But I think it would be nice to know it. I learned it from Jake Mace, he calls it “number one spin“, in case you want to check it out :) thanks for the reply

"Bo Staff" lol you have been watching Jake Mace too much. You obviously have no clue what you're doing, "Bo staff", Bo means staff. So you're saying "Staff staff".
@joes7263
@joes7263 7 жыл бұрын
Well it seems you're a 'Fake Mace'-guy. And you are right. I'm watching his videos for a long time now. And I now that the term 'Bo' means 'staff'. Do I really look like I have no clue what I'm doing? - Because I don't think so.
@padmad3k63
@padmad3k63 7 жыл бұрын
Joe S Yes because this has no self defense value, and no practical use in a fight. Spinning with a stick doesn't do shit. You actually believe that Jake mace is a Shaolin master? Haha keep on dreaming. He's a fraud and he's fooling people. That shit of his is called ShaolinDO and has no ties with the Shaolin Temple. His master did admit it in court. No you don't know what you're doing, if you did you wouldn't follow his crap.
@joes7263
@joes7263 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying :) Actually this was never meant to be a teaching video for self defense or something like that. I am fully aware that spinning a stick 'doesn't do shit' so in that case I agree with you. I'm doing this as a hobby. Going with friends outside, spin some staffs and share tricks with other people on YT. Did I ever state that I think Jake would be a Shaolin master? - No ... and I think he's no master at all. He's able to teach some movements and he shares his thoughts about (his) life and his martial arts lifestyle with his followers. For this reason I think he's a nice person and propably a nice instructor but to be a master in any martial art I think his way has just begun and his challenge is to get free of the stiffness of forms and go for real applications. Not the 'Real Awesome Fantastic' Stuff he has been teaching since now. Besides I've read the open letter about him. I know what and who you're talking about. Many people think of him as a fraud. But many people also give a chance to the stuff he teaches and to himself. Therefore I go with Bruce Lee: 'Knowing is not enough, we must apply'. Maybe he has some great ideas ... And if he does I will recognize it and maybe it's good stuff ;) In your third point I disagree with you. Not only because your statement lacks logic. As I stated before I'm watching his videos from time to time to see what he's doing and teaching. His Bo videos are good as he explains his movements very well. For videos about self defense I definitely go for videos of Master Wong and Funker Tactical. What do you think about them?
@padmad3k63
@padmad3k63 7 жыл бұрын
Joe S I have been training Wing Chun for 6 years now, since a couple months I have been receiving private Seven Star Praying Mantis lessons from a sifu I met. Soon I'll have a lot of spare time and I'm going to start to train fulltime with him. Master Wong would beat the crap out of Jake, Jake really doesn't know anything he just pretends. He did a Wing Chun form and me doing Wing Chun for 6 years I could see all his mistakes, everything he did in those clips are simply wrong. Yet he had the balls to say that he had basic Wing Chun training. Why does he lie? Jake isn't a nice person because he knows that ShaolinDO is a fake art, they have so many crappy forms with unrealistic applications, yet he still teaches that crap to people just for $$$. His motto was fake it till you make it, that explains it all right? Telling people that you can become a Tai Chi master easily WTF? Tai Chi is the hardest Kung Fu style. He insulted Shaolin monks by saying that he is traditional and they practise modern Wushu (while he knows that ShaolinDO is fake), he bashed a Southern Praying Mantis grandmaster, he called himself the new Grandmaster Ip Man (while he doesn't know shit about Wing Chun and lacks all the skills and basic things). So that doesn't sound really like a nice person to me. Master Wong is legit, his Wing Chun skills are amazing he knows what he';s talking about. But you cannot learn from videos, Wing Chun has some internal things which you cannot learn from a video you need a live teacher. People should actually get realistic and go to a real school instead of an "online school". A real fight is very different, you become stiff and stressed out you will lose for sure. Those things you can learn in sparring but if you watch those if-he-hits-me-here-blablabla material you won't learn anything. Funker Tactical - good content actually is way more realistic compared to Jakes channel, it's a good thing to see what special forces etc train because they fight for their lives during their operations and not in some ring (controlled environment) for some trophy and money. As for you you seem like a nice person to me, but this is my advice to you bro. If you want to achieve a high level in any martial art (you seem like a person who would like to have that) you should need to join a real teacher, watch different styles and how they do things etc. You could join a Wing Chun school for a while, the techniques are very comparable to Krav Maga techniques, it's perfect for short distances (conversation distance) and very practical. The internet is filled with martial arts crap, people really think that they can learn martial arts so easily, it doesn't work like that. Sorry if I have offended you.

Some people do not have a School/class in their area to go too. I'm glad we have the Internet to watch and Learn. It seems that despite your claim you can not learn, you watch and rate these guys. Why? Thanks for the comments, but you contradict yourself, and call most of it crap, I liked this video.
