Hiking & Wild camping on the Isle of Raasay with a night at the bothy (The Raasay Trail).
Backpacking and exploring the beautiful Isle of Raasay over 3 days with one wild camp and a night at Taigh Thormoid Dhuibh bothy. We started in the south of the island and worked our way up the east coast before setting up camp below the Brochel. We then hiked up to the very north of the island and stayed at the bothy. We hid our bikes near the Brochel and cycled out on the 3rd day.

Been going through your old videos and noticed this one. Not so many people know about raasay. I lived there for a while when my mum was working as a nurse over there (we are originally from Skye). Beautiful place. I would recommend the book "Callums Road" about some guy that made a road up to his house on his own because no-one else would. (You walked on it)

The east coast path is looking really tricky. 30 years ago there were only 2 landslips to by-pass, all the way from Rudha na Leac to Screapadal. I really hope to visit this summer and see the new distillery.

@cairnscrow8713
@cairnscrow8713 4 жыл бұрын
@@WalkWithWallace It probably hasn't changed much, (I hope it hasn't). I remember so many things about Raasay that really stuck in my head. The ferry was a simple outboard motor tiny boat and I didn't see any vehicles on the island. The car was therefore left in a roadside lay-by on Skye. The general store/ post office was less stocked than a normal campsite shop. The local poultry would follow me everywhere. There were small Dog Sharks? washed up on the beaches. The sea was crystal clear. Locals mainly spoke Gaelic but could speak broken English? (Where for when etc) There was an abandoned Mansion set away from the village with many items left in it, paintings etc. Loved the Island and I will go back there one day.

Hello 😁 what an island! And a video 👏 when I was there, I stayed at Raasay house for a week of adventures! The views from Duncaan are amazing! Some of that terrain on the way to the bothy looked dodgy. Did yous encounter any wildlife there? I was lucky enough to spot a golden eagle, an adder, and some porpoise jumping along the side of the sail boat we were in. Was crying with the porpoise, the instructor thought I was papping it 😂 but I was crying cause I felt so lucky! Brilliant video and an amazing island. Calums road is class... what a grafter! Kev's fart 😂😂 I was thinking "did he just fart" then it said 'pardon you kev' 😂🙈

I am choosing right now between Zephyros 2 and Trekkingtent Stealth 2. I've noticed both versions have appeared on your channel. Which one would you recommend for 2 people back/bikepacking purposes?
@WalkWithWallace
@WalkWithWallace 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, 2 very different tents you've picked. I found the Stealth 1.5 tent a bit of a pain to pitch. I've also owned a Zephyros 2, nice tent, but it's more a spacious 1 person tent to be honest.

Hi Robin, really enjoyed this one. Great video! I can understand how hard is to film when you are exhausted..:-] This east coast of Raasay has been on my list for some time. I know summer is not ideal for that as brackens + insects in full power but... may go if ferry operates there. As I understood there is no path at all between Hallaig and Sereapadal. Can you remember how many hrs this section was? I expect the worst but wonder for how long? I thought to go without car and try to walk/hitchhike back to ferry but your idea with bikes was good too.. Anything I shouldn't miss there? Where is distilery? I guess close to ferry.. Is there any nice beach along that east coast? And if not where else on island if you found some? Any campsite with showers close to ferry? Thanks for your reply. H.
