Hang in there guys, we're gonna get started on the board real soon. This episode we're going to go over how a Buck Converter (the most common type of step-down PSU) works and demonstrate it on the main 12v power rail of our 820-2530.

You're pretty underrated channel my man. Like what the heck. I know it looks stupid, that i have no better work like looking on board repair videos friday evening, but i just found your channel few days ago, and as i am working as self employed tech support/computer repair shop, man, you rocks.

Dear author. Over the past 2 years I have searched a lot of tutorials on this matter and each time I gave up as the teachers seem to lack any teaching skills. People in this field suffer a collective lack of empathy. I'm now 3 videos deep in your tutorial and I already know that I've finally found a guru. Please let me know how I can donate.

Rossman doesn’t explain anything and uncle Sorin, as likable as he is, he’s also definitely not a teacher. The first is an entertainer and the latter is a demonstrator. What you see here though, is a mindfully co-ordinated course.

Reading other lessons on buck converters, I understood the premise and the way transistors work, but this video allowed the pieces to click when you explained how the varying voltage ratios allowed for the coil to output a different A/C current into the capacitor which straightened it out, also help me get a better understanding when you mentioned how there was a drain for the excess from the coil.

Brilliant video. Because of your channel I've been inspired into having a go at repairing a cheap Fujitsu laptop. The motherboard has burnt itself out by the + side mosfet on the buck converter for the 3 volt line. Its burnt a hole in the board where I think a capacitor (unrelated) was, but it's hard to tell because I only have a schematic and not a board view. I have ordered a good second hand motherboard online, but I'm concerned if I have a short on something else in the laptop which may have caused the burn out. Am I right in assuming that an overload on the 3v line wouldn't cause the mosfet damage upstream?
