Boarding CARNIVAL PRIDE in Europe - 2023 Dry Dock Renovations Explored

I board the Carnival Pride in Europe to explore the recent 2023 dry dock renovations to the cruise ship. I set sail on a Carnival Cruise Line ship, Carnival Pride, from Dover, England for a 9-day voyage to Norway. The Carnival Pride, part of Carnival's Spirit class, debuted back in 2002 and is one of the oldest ships in the Carnival Cruise fleet. Carnival recently renovated the Carnival Pride during an extensive dry dock and I show you all of those renovations in this video.

The nightclub was actually floor 1 and 2. I sailed in a brand new room this summer on deck 1. This renovation also created a space for the Chefs Table also on deck 1 where the night club once was.

I sailed on Pride in January 2023, she was tired looking and the mattress was uncomfortable, but was an amazing cruise none the less, looking forward to cruising again on the Pride in September from Rome and again in January 2024 to Panama , can't wait to see the changes on board.

Spirit class are the best!! Cruise Panama Canal on the Pride in January/Feb (pre dry dock) passenger capacity is 2124 Doing 3 cruises Spirit out of Mobile in 2024 🛳

My first cruise was on Carnival on a 4-day weekend cruise out of Miami at the end of August...it was a 24 hour party. Going to try again once I return to cruising as I have heard things are very different, especially on a 7-day cruise. Quite impressed by what I see! Will look forward to your further experience. It’s night and day! 3-4 night cruises are party central vs 7-8 night cruises are still fun, but people pace themselves and it’s not crazy.

Haven’t sailed on Carnival in around 6 years since discovering Celebrity but got nostalgic looking at the very distinctly Carnival decor vibe….I’ll be interested to hear your views on food options and quality because that’s why we started veering away from Carnival 🇦🇺🙏 I’ll stand by for your STEPS vid 😀

Our 2nd cruise was on the Pride from Manhattan to Bermuda had a amazing time! smooth cruising back & forth the ocean was like glass you couldn’t tell you were moving I think the boat was a year old or less . Now all the ships look like a shopping mall 🤢

You were unlucky with the weather. We had the wettest July for many, many years. It was bloody awful. Thank you for posting videos on the Pride. I'm especially interested as I will be sailing on it next February. I'll be doing the reverse and flying over to Tampa, but I will be arriving on the Thrusday for a Sunday sailing. Hopefully I will get over the jetlag somewhat. Glad to see they have renovated the ship. Your cabin is vast! I have opted for the funny internal stateroom with a window. It will be good to see what it looks like now. It was interesting to see that, in spite of the ship sailing from a British port, they did not provide tea and coffee making facilities in your cabin. I'm sure there were lots of grumbling from the Brits, as we do like having a cuppa in our cabin. What was the mix of passengers? I have never pre-ordered water on any of my cruises, I just drink it straight from the tap. I don't see any point in paying extra for something like water, which I am sure is of potable quality. Beside I tried to avoid using any single-use plastic. Cheesed off to know they have removed the statue of David. I was looking forward to having my photo taken with it... Ho hum! I'm on the Pride on Aug 20th :) I'm English but from what I hear most of the crowd is Americans - kinda worried about being surrounded by Americans for twelve days!! Dover's not the usual port for British loop cruises; normally British cruises go from Southampton and Channel ferries go from Dover, but it's a new experience :) Very much a lie for Carnival to call any of the ports in England "London", though 😂.

Sailed the Pride from my home port of Baltimore to the Bahamas back in 2009. We had an aft balcony which was nice, but I remember having a lot less floor space than your cabin. It's too bad they haven't gotten rid of the gross shower curtains with the renovations!

Great video, Zach! Your stateroom looks awesome, especially for one person. That’s unfortunate you had issues with the Heathrow transfer. Any reason you didn’t spend a day or 2 or more in London and/or Dover? London especially is a great place to visit.

Did a Panama Canal crossing in 2021 on the pride. She was in very poor condition and because of the condition and poor experience it was our last Carnival sailing. We were a group of 6 and all agreed the time had come to say good bye to Carnival. I think it was our 6th or 7th with them.

We once docked in Dover, but spent the day in Canterbury. Wonderful port! The thing I don't like about Heathrow is the additional security check. You've never left a secure area, yet to take a connecting flight you have to go through again. One time this was a 2 hour ordeal. I've only been on one Carnival cruise. I'll follow your Norway episodes and try to keep an open mind. But it will be difficult to pry me away from Celebrity. Next up for us is also a Norwegian cruise. 13 nights on Silhouette. Our first non-Edge class ship. Keep up the great work!

The pride dry dock didn’t do well. Ship is stuck in Germany needing repairs. Next cruise out of Dover is cancelled. You lucked out ZTTM.

Spirit class are the only carnival ship I'd go on. We will be on it for 25 days in October. Would you please help us. All I want to know is in a balcony cabin during dry dock. Did they replace the lamps and install lamps with two USB ports like the ones in your room. I realize yours is a premium balcony but if you can find out that would be fabulous 🙂 some other guy who posted a video of the whole ship without a room tour wrote back that there's no USB ports in the lamps in the balcony cabin. Carnival tells me if they did it for a premium balcony. They did it for all balconies lol

That’s a good question but unfortunately I don’t have the answer. Usually there are no lamps beside the beds in cabins so I’d tend to think not.

@@ZachtheTravelingMan in most cases you are correct, but in the spirit quest ship built in the early 2000s, there are little lamps on the side of both beds. They have like a cone shape, lamp shade. In your room you have a much bigger lampshade and visibly two but looks like two USB ports and a switch. It wouldn't cost carnival. Much to put those in all the balcony cabins but it's unbelievable that nobody had carnival. Has any idea what was done in the dry dock? 🙂 Princess may be part of carnival corporation but haven't been on every cruise line there is. They are still the best... Don't tell anybody that's between you and I. Lol we went on our first Holland America Transatlantic a few months back on the actual 150th anniversary of the Rotterdam. FYI My wife and I are in our early 70s and we call the Rotterdam, the Snoozendam. I said you not at least on the transatlantic cruises. It's a bunch of 70-year-olds taking their parents on a cruise

Ive seen the carnival pride is going to baltimore. Im thinking about cruising to Bermuda in October of next year. Should i cruise on the Pride. Or should i fly to NYC and cruise on the Venezia or liberty of the seas? Ive cruised on the carnival liberty twice. I do want to eventually cruise on royal caribbean. I will be on the Elation in February.

How, as a solo cruiser, do you deal with solo supplements? More cruise lines are offering solo rooms priced for one person, but these are of course not available on every ship and some lines don't offer them at all.

I do have to pay double most of the time. Cruise lines have stripped away the discounts they were providing to us solo cruisers after the pandemic now that more people are sailing. And the solo rooms are going fast on the ships that do have them!

I have another question for you lol. You went to the Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse. I've read that you can only get one appetizer, one entree and one dessert. Is that true? I know on princess you can get as many appetizers and desserts and salads as you want, but an extra entree will cost you

Thank you for confirming that, much appreciated. I don't want to put words in your mouth but you are the third blogger that is at best one and done with the Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse lol. My wife and I are 70 and have crews for 35 years and have noticed that specialty dining is no longer that great. In fact, the main dining room is better. In most cases. We only cruise the actual spirit class 14 years ago with older kids. This is our second time and we will be on the carnival pride from Rome to turkey and back and then staying on the ship to Florida. We are elite members for princess and for the money at least for the time being. Lol. Princess is by far the best specialty dining on any cruise line we've been on and we've been on all of them.

This was my concern too! No noise at all from the elevator. However, since it was tucked behind the elevator bank there was no WiFi connection inside the cabin. Only downside!

To my knowledge they did - they had two separate locker rooms. However, I did not visit either to know for sure.

I sailed the Pride out of Baltimore in 2015 and it killed cruising for me and my husband. The ship is hideously decorated and the service in the dining room was very off. My husband couldn’t even get a gin and tonic. When he ordered one in the dinning room. First time they brought him a glass of ginger ale and a bottle of tonic water. The second time in the Alchemy bar they told him that gin and tonic isn’t a cocktail, it was a mixed drink. The third time he tried ordering a vodka martini and the dinning room wait staff didn’t understand and shoved this cardboard drink menu at him saying “order from here please” and when he said he didn’t want the offerings in their cardboard menu they didn’t take no for an answer and literally kept poking him in the arm with the edge of the menu over and over. I ordered steak and eggs in the dining room for sea day brunch. They didn’t bring a steak knife. I asked one be brought to me. By the time it came my steak was ice cold.

Wooo Doggies that ship is Ugleeeee! The ship decor outside the cabin looks fake, like a cartoon version of what a redneck thinks is classy. There are so many different styles thrown together like some drunk decorator barfed up ideas from 5 different decades. I liked the wood in the cabin that was lovely, the balcony was really nice although those chairs looked really uncomfortable. What is up with that 1950s vinyl couch in the cabin? You're gonna get a sweaty butt sittin on that thing. The TV location was bad if you wanted to watch it while you sat on the couch but honestly, who would want to sit on that couch to begin with? Maybe if you were eating in your room and using that ginormous coffee table as your lunch table or if you needed to sit down to put on your shoes. The bathroom looked nice. Except for the vinyl couch the room looked very nice, at least it was kitschy like the ship decor.
