A man with half a face and sniper rifle is a terrifying sight

Richard is not a gangster. He is a soldier. And he was a loyal friend.

If I recall his death scene correctly, as his life passes before his eye(s) we see him before the war as an extraordinarily handsome fellow loving life. That was heartbreaking.

The fact Gyp always crowing about being a tough guy and having him run in fear from Harrow still brings a smile to my face

A bolt action rifle, 2 pistols and a sawed off shotgun. For the time period, that man walked in with an arsenal.

Richard Harrow singlehandedly does what no-one else could do all season long.

The clumsy shootings of gangland are nothing compared to the fire and horror that Richard experienced during his service. It's like sending a wolf against a bunch of overconfident cocker spaniels.

"Take you for a soldier. What are you fighting for now?" Once Richard found out the answer to that question again, he showed just how effective a soldier he was.

IDK why but Richard telling the kid to close his eyes before shooting the guy made me respect him even more! There's just some thing kids shouldn't see, no matter what lifestyle they're born or raised into.

The contrast of the panicking gangsters with richard's cool professionalism is absolutely chilling.

"Tommy, close your eyes. I'm gonna do what's called a pro gamer move."

Harrow was the original John Wick, a man of focus, commitment and shear will. He was coming out of there alive with the boy, or he was coming out in a box.

You can see Tommy run into his arms through the foggy, blood-splattered glass. Pure genius cinematography

One veteran kills a bunch of drunken men. This was a good scene. Probably the best in Boardwalk Empire.

I love how Richard planned to kill 40 men, they were called from the brothel, but Richard in his heart believed he could kill 40 men. That's fucking insane.

I have empathy for Richard as he went through a war that the world had never experienced before. In addition to surviving with a terrible injury that prevented him from integrating back into society and having some normalcy of life there must have been many brave men that could no doubt relate to him.

One of the best gun scenes on any TV show. You really get the sense of just how calculated a killer Richard is. Those mob thugs are playing with a seasoned marksman and they have no clue what they are up against.

The love & the responsibility that Harrow felt for Jimmy Darmody's kid was quite profound. It was just an extension of the loyalty that he still held for Jimmy. Jack Huston brought so much dimension and emotional depth to Harrow. Too bad he never got more recognition for that role. He is an actor of astonishing gifts.

He was on a great streak, coulda called in an AC-130

Harrow showed respect to his rifle in the close-quarters encounter he had in the hallway. Instead of tossing the weapon to the ground, he set it down on the ground first, then proceeded to fight the man. It's such an easy detail to miss, but I imagine most, if not all, snipers have a profound attachment to their rifles, and he showed it in that moment of peril. Amazing scene.

Harrow is a solider that never turned “off” when he came back home

No machine gun either. He's reloading constantly. He was like a machine though. He even made Nucky nervous, who knew how dangerous Richard was.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate that Mr. Harrow did all this with one eye and shit for depth perception ?

What always gets me is that you can see the fear on some of the gangsters faces. They didn't know who they were up against.

I love how Richard seems to live by a code. Innocents deserve protection, and soldiers live and die by the sword.

One of the things l like about the last scene is that when he says "close your eyes" the boy does it immediately without hesitation. He had utter faith in Harrow, even with a gun to his little head.

Nucky and Chalky and Al did so much planning on how they were going to take Gyp out. Richie accomplished everything they were trying to do by himself in about 10 minutes! Best character in this show by a country mile

Absolute badass, slaying a dozen men to save his best friend's son. It's a shame that this killing spree furthered his trauma which cause the shaking and fumbling his assassination on Narcisse which led to his own death. I wish Richard had finally gotten some happiness.

That, ladies and gents, is what ya call "marksmanship." Pick your targets, aim your shots, make each round count. No wasted movement, no wasted shots, total fire discipline. Richard Harrow was a Prohibition-era John Wick....minus the BJJ and the "Gun Fu," of course. A highly-trained, highly-skilled shooter who could commit himself totally to an objective and execute it with utter precision and total focus.

Actor Jack Huston brought this character to its heights, from sadistic killing to tender, injured man. Great acting!

Richard was one of the most soulful and interesting characters in the entire show. The episode where he goes out to the woods to top himself and the hunter finds him, asks him if he's okay while making it clear that "these woods aren't for that kind of thing, you hear?" That was Richard's moment: the crystal-clear realization that he wasn't useless and broken, that he wasn't done with this world yet, and that killing himself would be a fucking waste. Why? *Because there's work to be done.* Be like Richard boys.

The best moment on the entire show!! Season 3 was a fuckin masterpiece. My favorite season by far. On a show that didn’t have too many likable characters, Richard Harrow was one of the few characters I loved. A man who’s filled inside with loneliness, turmoil, anger, and sadness. I believe Jake Huston, the actor who played Richard is Angelica Huston and Danny Huston's nephew I believe. Did anyone else get Taxi Driver vibes while watching this moment? I certainly did. The final scene in Taxi Driver when Travis goes to save Iris has a lot in common with this scene. Scorsese was an executive producer on this show so I can see why he put this scene in this episode. Also, Richard is a lot like Travis. Now I can see why this show is show highly praised and awarded. It may not be as good as The Wire but it’s damn close.

I know I'm very late to the party, but I just started the last season of this show, and I just feel so unbelievably empty. I saw myself in Richard, his fears, his loneliness, his dreams. Watching this scene when Richard went to save Tommy had me ecstatic and also terrified, that he would die trying. The season 4 finale just gutted me. I've never really cried to anything else, except this show, today. I genuinely feel like I not only lost a friend but a part of myself. No other show, movie, book, game, or anything has ever done that to me

Saddest death of the entire series for me. I was rooting so hard for Harrow to get his happy ending, and in a bittersweet way he did in his last moments, but damn if i didn't shed a tear for him. Such a brilliant character.

Honestly I think this episode, the season 3 finale, is one of the best episodes I’ve watched of any show. It’s so good. I was so into it the whole time. It was just an incredible episode

When this scene started I thought the directors had decided to kill off Harrow. I mean how could 1 man fight off all these guys with guns. But he showed what a badass he really is and a true soldier, not a tough guy picking on the weak with a gun.

''Tommy, close your eyes.'' The only words exchanged by Harrow as he massacres Massaria's boys. Not once did he flaunt or shout his bravado out loud for everyone to hear. He's a soldier, he does what he does so that he can come home. And by the way, his final kill was just showing off lmao.

Easily the most likeable character in this show. Soft hearted and vulnerable for the ladies and feminine crowd, loyal af to the mobster/gang crowd, treated like shit by society to the misunderstood crowd, a cold calculated killer to the assassin crowd, over all beast mode killing machine to the action junkies.

When i saw Richard, all i could think was. FUCK. YES. But seriously, ultimate fucking badass right here.

For as vicious as Richard could be he was also as kind and loving. A man torn apart by the circumstances of his world.

The way he turned those corners in the stairs with discipline only had by soldiers of a trench

That sniper came in with all of the tools and the attitude to get the job done. 10/10 for prevailing against overwhelming odds!

It has been proven in numerous shootouts that he with the coolest head will more than likely win. Twice he was fired on on the stairs and twice they missed. This was not unrealistic. Where everyone else was dashing around, Harrow was calm and precise.

The headshot scene, beautifully done, the intensity of the struggle. Gonna have to watch this from start to finish.

The part when he's in the middle of the room aiming and doing the 180 is so fluid. I like it!

So they come at him one at a time, no one ever hides and waits till he’s grappling with someone else and then shoots. In reality if you try anything like this you would die in the first minute. That’s why the shooters armed to the teeth die as soon as the police appear - one might beat two or even three but not five.

It's always nice the way they attack one at a time and get within striking distance even when they have a gun.

Probably my favorite character of the whole series. He played the full range, from a killing machine to a broken man finding the ability (and trust) to be able to love someone again.... and everything in between.

I just had to find a video and read some comments. I just recently started watching this show and I like him a lot. Certainly one of my favorite characters, along with Rothstein and Chalky. Richard is just so humble and rejected by society, seemingly. He’s ruthless but he’s kind and loyal. What a character!

Harrow was an unstoppable killing machine, a serious "John Wick"-type. Badass and silent All those "soldiers" who were scaring and extorting people, could not compare with a real soldier who went through hell of War

I remember talking about this scene with my departed friend, Jimmy the Saint. We both loved this show and anticipated Harrow's revenge, but this exceeded all our expectations. Miss you Ed/Jimmy.

The best thing is Harrow was perfectly willing to charge in, with all of Masseria’s men still inside on top of Rosetti’s, if they didn’t get called away.

I remember when my friend went through Mafia training. They taught him to never use cover, always wait 5 seconds before shooting, never shoot through a door and to never hit the first shot. This made sure he would be a good movie extra but he didn't make it very long in his first gunfight.

The camera falling out of focus just before he shoots is a nice touch.

I've never seen the show before but I love the little detail they added to this character. I noticed the way he navigated through the building with such technique instead of charging through like some bull. Having never seen the show it gave me the impression he was a well payed mafia hitman of some kind (like agent 47 but gangster) who's done this so many times it's like nothing to him. After seeing the video a few times I noticed he had a black stripe down his face and I couldn't tell if it was a bloody nose or a scar the first few times. Until I thought back to the way he was so careful moving through the building I described it as "somewhat military" and then I put it all together that this man must be a veteran and that black stripe was just the shade from his prosthetic faceplate. They did such a good job making his faceplate that I mistook it for his actual face the first few times I saw this video.

Probably one of the best killing sprees I've ever seen, and I haven't even watched this show. That was just fantastic between Harrow's main firing with the rifle and the quick switch to the shotgun for close quarters and handgun of whenever things got hairy. And I love how this scene actually demonstrates the advantage a person with the element of surprise holds, even against a superior enemy/force. I may have to watch this whole series now... that was fucking excellent!

Richard Harrow is the definition of haunting, after all these years and this character sticks with me. Jack Huston's performance was something else.

Imagine him in the trenches, that's exactly what he's seeing in this moment, he still feels and sees the war and acts accordingly, he fights to the death.

I loved his final scene in the episode as well. Did it all for the boy. Brought a tear to my eye.

Jack Huston's performance arc spanned the whole spectrum and was utterly believable. The irony for me is that if you described in words what his character would do, you'd probably scoff at it, like, "No way, bro. I wouldn't buy it." But there it is, fortunately enshrined for all to see and marvel at.

Single greatest character performance of all time. The quirks of speech, the mannerisms, the varying emotions he conveyed with one eye...simply astounding.

A professional marksman like Richard knows the weight of the rifle and how to aim it in that position. He's clearly aiming as he's lowering the weapon. In fact, he put the shot in the perfect place: the upward trajectory of the bullet into the brain kills the dude instantly, so no involuntary spasms that would make him accidentally pull the trigger and shoot Tommy.

Richard in an expert marksman who know which weapon use in every possible situation and landscape. See that he uses the rifle when he has a lot of space around him and knows where the other men are located, behind the furniture, etc. But then when he get into rooms y corridors where the enemy may pop up from every corner and every door at very close range he changes to revolver because it allows a faster aiming and firing. Then when he is again in the open, during the stairs part, he switches again to the rifle because he will need to shoot at some distance and he knows where the enemies will be coming from. Then again changes to revolver because he arrives to rooms and corridors.

By far the best character Ive ever seen in any show

Great acting and training on his part. My great-grandfather served in WWI and I was fortunate enough to hear some of his stories. He said that chambering a bolt-action rifle became as second nature to him as blinking. Harrow masterfully displays that in this scene

Was really sad when Richard Harrow died. So much depth to his character. He was finally about to get everything he deserved, had one last job to do... And it couldn't have gone more wrong. Tragic.
