As always, Chris (and Heidi), I am boggled with the technical skills of all those who helped conceive and build this singular instrument. Thanks for the share!

The Grand Cornet is interesting. I have played several baroque Spanish organs with huge cornets, for example the 1796 Verdalonga at Toledo Cathedral is 11 ranks (I think above middle c only) but no 7ths to my knowledge. The Spanish loved the cornet sound.

🤔🤔☝️I Am Wondering Why Some Of The Pipe Ranks Are Not In Order Of Length But Still Are On The Same Wind 💨 Chest. I Thought Logically That The Line Up Of Pipe Ranks Went From The Smallest Rank In The Front Next Row The Next Size Up Ect. But Then I Suppose There Are More Ranks That Also More Than Likely Also Have To Share The Same Wind 💨 Chest. Awesome 👏 Video By The Way.
@cnagorka
@cnagorka Жыл бұрын
Because they are indeed on the chest in order of pitch- what you're seeing is the effect of having Harmonic pipes, which are double length for their pitch, interspersed with standard length open pipes.

These are great. I'm such a novice, a laser pointer would really help me out. Used sparingly, a hand/finger is much better when something's in reach!
@cnagorka
@cnagorka Жыл бұрын
The problem is a laser pointer is so pointy! A focused beam flashlight would work better.

@@cnagorka Yes, that would help me, but when in reach, the hand is really good for setting scale. Love these vids, this instrument has fascinated since seeing it in books in the 70s as a kid.
@jdcorganist
@jdcorganist Жыл бұрын
When tuning this division, because of so many similar-scaled ranks and at the same pitches planted right next to themselves, do they tend to draw into each other, or are they fairly independent and can hold their own temperament ok?
@cnagorka
@cnagorka Жыл бұрын
They draw like crazy and can be very difficult to tune accurately. That's why they use rank 21 or 22, I forget which, as a tuning stop , it's away from everything else so there's no drawing problem and those ranks can be tempered reasonably well. A lot of ranks are driven so hard and can be so "warbly" that tempering them accurately is really tough.
@jdcorganist
@jdcorganist Жыл бұрын
@@cnagorka Nice to learn about this. Spent some time taking with Brant about drawing, and looking at that setup, it seems like everything would draw! Is that Cornet chest able to turn on/off each rank individually from the chamber?
@cnagorka

@@jdcorganist Yes there are switches to turn off each stop action.

Hello: Basically, you're right. But, I've got two videos in mind I've been wanting to make for a while, a deep dive on the Swell/Choir mutations, and a comparison of the 50" and 100" reeds in the organ. The trouble is those videos take a long time to set up and I keep running out of time to do them.
