Yeah great info for people who want to try this out. I have a friend that got a free 15f boston with a trailer, he just put a pice of plywood up front, nothing fancy, he also made a console out of wood, bought longer cables for the engine, he runs a 20hp Evinrude fron the 80's he had laying around, he made the light poles out pf pcv and put 12V LED Lights with the warm type of light not the bright white ones, and he has a killer time out there, he did not spend more than $400. Also you better have you fishing papers in order, cops be checking everyone out there, papers, lobster size and amout, remember its not free buffet out there, there are limits. Be safe, have fun, no need to spend big bucks to do this.

It’s the light lumen level. Old light bulbs are at 2800 degrees of light Lumen. Perfect for your use. Most big box stores sell the led,s as a set, you can buy old stock from a lighting stores for cheep they want to get it out of there stock room. All the new stuff is dim able so you can dim it down to 2800 degrees or lower . Then you can dim it up to 6000 degrees white bright light. You can also run them off a stock battery, and if you have a 20 Horse motor with a generator it will charge the battery, I don’t like this video which puts 120 volts under water using black tape as a water tight seal , have you ever seen anyone shocked by 120 volts in water , trust me it will not let you go . I have the new type of leds on my sail boat , I can change the colors to red for night sailing I can dim them down as the night gets darker .. and if your good you can cut them ever 1.5 inch’s Then solder them to a lead and don’t forget the shrink wrap. Here’s an old story before leds , for years I used to sail my 1 ton sailboat on the Chicago to Mackinac island , Race. I had installed a 12 volt dimmer on the Stern light , at 2 am in the morning I would start to dim down The stern light , mind you this was a 333 mile race thru the night , at night the wind could drop down to less than 1 or 2 mph. If your on the boats behind me you would see my stern light getting dimmer , meaning that I must have wind , so most of the boats behind me would tack over to find the wind . Leaving me in a better position at sunrise ahead of the pack …. Now I live in the south and only sail on friends boats. In close ing was it fair to dim my tail light. I read every rule in the book there was nothing every written about lights. Do I feel bad about doing it , (sometimes). Ps. The cat was out of bag after 4 years , it didn’t make a difference one way or the other in the following years ….

the only thing electrically conductive is the cords between the generator and the lights, both lights are mounted on plastic pipes, please explain where the safety hazard exists?
@Honda1k
@Honda1k 2 жыл бұрын
@@marzsit9833 I didn't say it was a safety hazard I just said I would prefer 12 volts over 120 and let's just say if that light bulb breaks it can make the water conductive if it's not a GFCI protected generator or say you have a cracked extension cord. It's what I prefer I'm not knocking it.

@danield954 2 жыл бұрын
If done properly there is little to no risk using the 120v lights in this application. With that said, there is absolutely no risk with the 12v option, 12 volts won't hurt you. Besides why would you use an relatively expensive generator near water, when you could just use 12v lights? If battery power is a concern get a second battery, still cheaper than a generator.
@mikec3142
@mikec3142 2 жыл бұрын
Why not just run a 12V bulb OR use a inverter from the battery? Your engine is running and would have no problem running a 400W inverter for a couple bulbs. Over thought out if you ask me.

Where Im from originally in NY, we had a 13' Del Quay Dory which for all intents and purposes is an English version of a Boston Whaler, we used 2 gas lanterns on a milkcrate with 2 arms to extend out over the water, and pole the boat thru maybe a foot of water in the summer for blue claw crabs. wed use 6 foot nets similar to bully nets except no ben in them. Wed come home with 3 or 4 5 gallon buckets of crab.

12 volt light bulbs with a RV type waterproof socket that seals to the bulb can be submerged. A pie pan above it makes a good reflector so you don't see the bulb, just the light. I made one on a pole for flounder gigging. That boat would be great for flounder or sheepshead gigging, shrimping, bow fishin', and flats fishin' farther up the Gulf coast. I'd hunt tripletail on flat days with it too. Cool rig.

Back in the 90s I owned a 17' 6" Roberts Skiff. I had 24 volts for the trolling motor which would stay home on bully netting trips. Instead a pvc light bracket with 2 sealed flood lights would go in it's place. The pole on my bully net was a 13' piece of push pole that still had it's aluminum tip. I would stand on the bow and sweep left and right moving across the "Cape Shoals" in Key Biscayne. When a bug came into view inside that 40' oval of light, all I had to do was sweep the bow over it, flip the pole so that the net was down and pounce. I really miss those times.

Great setup! Living in Michigan I didn't think this would apply, but I'm glad I watch till the end. That light in the water wad brilliant!!! I've seen ice fisherman use a blue light, so this should work for night fishing from a boat. The blue light attracts plankton which attracts batter fish, which attracts game fish. Bass, Crappie, Pike, and Walley 👍👍🎣🎣🎣🤙🤙good show today.

I wonder how plexiglass rod would work for netting. It might not be as bright, but would emit light like flash light. The top of the rod would have to be enclosed for whatever light source you use. This would lessen contact with the salt water and lessen the destruction of the circuits. The are LED lights that are just as bright and much more durable to vibration than the filament bulbs you are currently using.

If you did this to an aluminum boat it would be great for gigging by yourself. The lights look plenty bright enough and since you drive from the front you don’t need a driver in the back. I’d just put a trolling motor (if possible) and a center console surface drive mud motor on it.

I wouldn't use one here on the west coast of Canada. The waters are rough most of the time so you'd be soaking wet in minutes. Plus we dont have lobsters here. You might be able to get crabs at a couple of our beaches by the U.S. border but I'm pretty sure you cant at night and our tide goes out so fast you'd be sitting on bottom waiting for the tide.
