I have always thought that a person’s home/Narrowboat is an extension of their personality and The Rum Wench is no exception. A bit quirky but altogether charming and welcoming.

An absolute pristine credit to you, and a lovely boat too. Thank you so much for taking us aboard. I had though, one fleeting twinge of disappointment, and that was seeing no cannon nosing out of the forward pirate cabin. You know…just in case.

Ah, it's a lovely boat inside. It's bright and clean and tidy despite you warning us about the cupboard you dared not open. We all have a cupboard like that 😆I'm rather hoping to clean mine out this weekend having discovered an old and broken dehydrater is in there buried. My husband replaced it years ago! It's big and it doesn't work! That's a man's logic. The bed looks so cosy with the crochet blanket and the fire just behind. You seem to have a lot of space and a great kitchen. I'd spend quite a bit of chilling time in your bow room I think. So big and with lots of open light. Mr Skeleton likes it. Do you know the story behind your engine (which I love, it might be loud but it's a proper engine that it's possible to understand)? How it came to be in a much younger boat? Thanks for the tour. I'm so smitten with your attitude to life. "I'm always twatting my head on this" made me laugh out loud. You must have been a great teacher. Finally I once met a professional violinist who lived on a narrowboat. He could only practice sat down of course!

Loved the tour & the layout of your boat, must suit work/life balance. I get the engine noise issue, when we took our oil/gas platform life boats out for a run we couldn’t hear ourselves speak, same engines as I told you earlier, sound proofing is possible but the trade off is easy access for checks

Wow, that's a long boat! My boat here in the USA was 42 feet long, and 12 feet wide, with twin engines/props for easier handling ... but 57 feet long is huge in my mind. Good on you! Love the engine. The engines in my boat were original to the boat in 1939, and purred like kittens after I did a bit of work on them ... but at that age, it was hard to get parts for sure!! When an exhaust manifold finally broke a hole in it, I had to have one built/fabricated ... couple of bucks there! Thank you for the tour. The Rum Wench seems very well outfitted. :-) A map, I love maps! How can I get a copy of that map, Heidi? Thank you, always.

Hi Heidi hun ,I told you before your boat was so clean and tidy outside but no suprise the inside is absolutely imaculate and gorgeous....just like you ,I swear its got your smile too. I'd love to see your shop in operation swarming with young cut throats all with their cutlasses and Eye patches.One thing was missing though a real live Parrot to sit on your shoulder. Being an accomplished Musician have you got a repetoire of Sea Shanties ?.The style of your boat with the boatman"s cabin, the Engine room and that lovely old Lister is much like the old style trading boats.I bet you get a lot of remarksabout the great sound of the engine as you pass others. Like the boat but the engine would drive me nuts, and that's such a pity as so many of the old engines look beautiful and they have a wonderful sound but after a while like so many noises, you probably don't even hear it. If all goes to plan for me I will be out there as a single handed continuous cruiser next year so I am finding out everything I possibly can before I start searching for the perfect boat for me early next year and I am hoping to find one no longer than about 51 or 52 feet long, maximum. I will be getting a narrowboat as wide beams have all that extra space but they all seem to be lacking a big something that makes them look cold and harsh inside. Fridge, washing machine, a nice comfy double bed are all a must but everything I am flexible on, but you said you have a freezer and yours is the first one I have seen on a narrowboat so how do you manage to run it 24/7 ? You said you don't run the engine when you are moored and I did not see solar panels on the roof so do you have a large battery bank that charges from a generator on the engine ? As you have turned the bow into another room, do you have storage for gas bottles, water hose and other bit's under the floor or is all the storage under the stern floor and where is your water storage tank and how much does it hold please ? Finally, and I do apologise for asking a personal question but roughly how long does a toilet cassette last if there is only one person using it ? I do apologise for so many questions, especially the on about the toilet but I am hoping to get as much as I possibly can right first time around, oh and I am retired. Please feel free to suggest anything you think is important, that I have missed. T.I.A.
