BOATER LAUNCHED BY HUGE WAVE AT MANASQUAN INLET ! | Massive Wave vs Boat | Shore Boats

Shore Boats

It looked like any regular calm day at the Manasquan Inlet, except for the very large, unexpected swells that took over the entire inlet and took boaters by surprise!
These massive waves would seemingly come out of nowhere and break across the entire width of the inlet -- which is pretty unusual for Manasquan.
Watch as boats take on and run from large rolling swells coming from the Atlantic Ocean.
This was during low tide and light offshore winds.

Nothing like breakers in the inlet. Comparing this channel to the Florida guys, is like comparing a gold watch to a boot heel to the teeth. I love it.

That second wave heading at the Chaparral is like out here when the surfs up. Loved how he motored through the first few and throttled back on the next two. Nasty following sea when it came back in... Bet that cabin cruiser that went sideways brown stained his shorts for a few seconds.

We bought our first sailboat from a dealer in that river. I hated going out and coming back in, you never knew that the tide and waves could be doing. And the rocks and riff raff on the side made for too many "don't get too close" moments. Eventually my Dad and his buds moved the boat to the Chesapeake. If I never see the Manasquan inlet again it would be too soon. Plus you know, just jersey in general.

@@jacobgreen6939 6 ft at 10 seconds is serious stay at home weather.....wind and what type of inlet you run out of are most important factors......could be 8 foot rollers on a calm day that would be a death run on fire island inlet tjat i am based out of and the same day could be a rolling day of fishing if you head out of montauk......also a key west is not similar to a late 80's whaler.....the whalers are truly unsinkable and the most proven boats out there.......personal advice do not go in ocean in anything bigger than 2 to 4 and winds of 10 mph or less

@@gg9960 you better do your homework if you wanna be giving advice. Key West is unsinkable. Six ten is almost everyday here Hilo side Hawaii. I've been told I can go out two thirds of the time. Meaning twenty days of the month. It's not as bad as you say it is. You can cut key West in half too. The rest of the days are 8 ten, nine eleven ish. Thx for trying.

IMHO, The first boat, that almost had a breaking wave over its bow, made a slight tactical error. ‘Usually’, with an inlet with extending breakwaters, the waves break closer to the breakwater where it gets shallower. He would have been better off going for the middle depending on the wind, etc.

We were heading out one time, seen the rollers coming in, did the U turn. Then my uncle looked back and said screw it, came around again and hit it. The frequency was bad and we took one over the bow, swamped the boat, stalled the engine, alarms are sounding! My wife in the back seat bailing water with 2 solo cups...lmao Got the engine restarted, made it out and a hard right into calm water. Let the bilges clear out, made sure all was good and and headed back in after a bit. Its a different perspective when your actually in a boat heading out when that inlet is rough. It really does look like your heading into tidal waves...

Barnegat used to look like that a lot. Now that the Army Corps. clean it out every few years its not as bad... And the sand bar is mostly gone. You can run straight over it once you know where the channel is. Even a big inboard. Yea those following breakers will tighten your nuts brother. I prefer to ride the backs of them in. Sometimes they dont cooperate... You need to constantly work the throttle to maintain position on the wave. Too much throttle and youll go over the front. Thats bad. A pitch pole could roll your vessle when the bow digs in and the steen is driven forward by the breaking wave.. fall too far back and the following wave actually sucks you in trying to swamp you from behind... it takes more than adiquate power and the right props...Some of those cabin boats are bay boats. Under powered and too much freeboard. They are scary in a rough inlet. In order to get to Manasquan from Barnegat you need to pass through the Point Pleasant Canal... another fun place to test your boating skills. I remember as kids of maybe 12 or 13 going through there in a 14 footer. Never felt so small in my life. The tide rushing through... and bridge pilings developing stationary 3 or 4 foot breakers... like holes in the water waiting to suck you in if you hesitated for a second. It makes you want a certain kind of very capable boat. Although I did take my 14 foot Grumman Jon boat with 9.9 out Barnegat one day... just to say I did...a calm day. I was more worried about the party boat wakes...
