Boaters deal with modern-day pirates in the East Bay

Those who live and work in the Oakland Estuary say they’re now battling pirates. The boating community says that’s the best way to describe a recent crime spree involving several boats stolen in the East Bay waters. Marianne Favro reports.

For piracy there's a "two ship" rule. If the attackers do not attack the ship using another ship, and instead board from land (for instance by stowing away) then it is not legally piracy.

Two full time officers - math doesn't work out there. 168 hours in a 24/7 week. 80 hours of patrol time isn't gonna cut it. Even if they work separately - if they work as partners that's even worse.

Very easy to get rid of this problem. We had some good laws that were an acted several hundred years ago how to take care of pirates on the seas.. We must reenact these laws, and you’ll see these pirates disappear, overnight nowhere to be found a herd of again . Out on the Somali seas from Somalia, our military, and others have a very good way of dealing with these people. We should do the same thing here in our bay and ports. How many give a thumbs up to this and support this idea .

Got to get a list from all the boats that have lost anything and ask him if they bought anything and check out the local pawn shops and the Marine second hand stores. Unfortunately you aren't the only one with this problem I'm down in the Florida Keys and I've lost 5 anchors in the last 4 months and not in the water either. I got three boats and I can't be on them at same time. When I pull them up and I'm changing the hardware I have to go to the hardware store and I come back in the damn things are gone. Worse than that I know who's doing it but I can't get him red-handed he's stupid even he gives from the people and leave them laying on the front of their boats.

There is widespread poverty and homelessness in the bay area. If you expect to have a boat kept safely there you’re put of your mind. This is what happens when a country gives more opportunity to rich people than they do for poor people. Crime is the only thing poor people actually have.
