Boating, Biking & Blacksmithing | My Narrowboat cruise along the Llangollen canal continues [Ep 14]

This video show me cruising my narrowboat to Whitchurch and heading off my on bike to a post office to get a badge order dispatched on time. I do get lost on the way back to the boat which takes me on a 4-5 mile detour around a country park. We then leave Whitchurch and head off to a nice secluded offside mooring in between Whitchurch and Ellesmere where Puddin finds a discarded rusty chimney hat. Luckily our friends from Cruising Crafts are moored next to us and with Gareths amazing Blacksmithing skills he manages to give it a good fettling.

Oh my gosh, I just love you Heidi, that is so me, there is a Wilderness preserve that's not even that big near me and I don't even have to have a motorized bike to get lost in that thing! Bonus though there are bald eagle 🦅 nests everywhere so there is that :-) 😂🎉😅😊❤

Hello Heidi - greetings from Poland Welcome to Whitchurch. I love the folding bike. Four and a half hours to get to and from the post office really shows that you will go above and beyond the call of duty to get badges to your customers. The mini generator must be a godsend. I guess it's not to noisy either so doesn't disturb fellow boaters. By my reckoning, 42 turns to get the lift bridge back down. A fantastic video. Gorgeous camera work down at water level too. Your commentary was superb - great fun. Last but not least, thanks to Gareth for refurbishing the chimney cowl. It looks perfect. Lovely cruise, nice BBQ and plenty of drinks. Stay safe please.

Thought you were going to fall into the canal with your bike for a sec there, Heidi! Glad you didn't. I have a folding bike with 12 inch wheels - really hard to ride on grass with such small wheels. Amazing customer service, going to that much effort to get to the post office! Love your videos!

When l picked up my hireboat from Whitchurch in1976 the lift bridges had a bit of rope to swing on to open them which was more fun!

Ay up me duck, just a quick comment on the petrol that you use in the generator. I was going to suggest that you use the super unleaded stuff as it only contains up to 5% ethanol, instead of the 10% in normal unleaded fuel. The low ethanol fuel will be a bit kinder to the generators carburettor and fuel tap seals, and it is less likely to absorb moisture from the air. If you store fuel for an extended period then try adding a bit of Sta-bil brand fuel stabiliser. You can purchase a marine version of Sta-bil which will keep the fuel fresh for several months. I use this when storing away my motorcycles during the winter months.

Wow, just discovered your channel, we love it, actually binged watched 14 episodes. We have said hello a few times in passing, bottom of the Audlem flight I think was the last time. So glad you have started vlogging. Can’t wait for more. We’ve been boating for years but just for holidays. We bought our first boat, after many years of hiring, in 2019 just in time for lockdown😕. Really like the details of the engine, shut down procedures, etc. Yikes, I'd say at least 3,000 turns on that swing bridge! 🙂 Ok, maybe not that much, but it seemed like a lot of work. As does the video editing, if I must say. My blog is mostly just photos and it STILL takes me hours of time. I love your music. I love your videos of cruising, that blue bow bollard, the bridges, the birds (Kingfisher), the boat hull in the water, the green, always the green, so beautiful. And ... a pirate's treasure! 🙂 And friends, the best.

Hey Pete, Thank you so much for liking my music 😃 it has been submitted to a distributer for KZfaq reasons but it takes months to get sorted so hoping in the next couple of months it will be available to download … plus I’ve not even finished some of the tracks they just snippets just so I have some music on my videos 😂 Over winter I will have a lot more time to organise myself and make some more, it’s just when I’m not cruising I’m selling my Pirate stuff from the boat at the moment. But at the end of September the weather is usually too bad to open the floating shop so I’ll have lots more time 😃🏴‍☠️

Great news about your music Heidi, no offence ment but it's not the type of music I usually listen to as my number one choice is Quo and I like it so much I even share it with my neighbours ha ha ha. Seriously though your music is so different and very relaxing so maybe that's why I enjoy it so much so looking forward to it being available on KZfaq. You also need to consider burning some CD's too as I am sure they would sell. I like Puddin, he looks a real grumpy git, just like one of my daughters dogs who sleeps most of the time and snores really loud, I assume Puddin is a he, as I have not spotted the undercarriage. Yes me too .. we have some fab van lifer friends but they often have nightmares with park ups and getting moved on at 2am etc even though they stealth camping it’s hard work here in the UK to do it unless you pay … we very lucky with our boats 🏴‍☠️❤️

Are used to live on a boat many years ago at least 15 I think but it was a cruiser rather than a narrowboat or a white bean so I know what biting wifey is like and thank you for the suggestion I never thought of that before I live near canals in Birmingham although I live just outside near a place called the Lickey Hills if you know it or Bromsgrove I enjoyed it on the boat are used to live on it for about two days every weekend including the winter and I actually miss doing that so I might take up your suggestion and sorry for the mistakes in my spelling it is due to the fact that I have to speak what I see or hear rather than type thanks so much for the reply

You might look into converting your genset to propane. Lots of kits available. Seems like it would be easier to keep. Gas cans are no fun.

Little tip for your tiller pin, get one of those little brass suitcase padlocks and put it through the hole at the bottom of the pin! won't stop any determined thief (obs still take the tiller off when leaving the boat) but will stop the casual thief helping themselves at a lock or similar!

I do that all the time on my bike journeys, so I can sympathise with you there Heidi! I would like to take Aitch to the Llangollen one day. Would I be OK going through them lift bridges as a solo boater?

Lol you found my chimney hat! That was at the 48 hr moorings at roundthorn farm wasnt it? I lost it when I was in the general area south of Whitchurch, but that was at least a couple of months ago if I remember right. Anyway I've got another one long since (although the new one took a bashing from a low bridge arch thanks to my awful steering), and I'm really glad it went to such a nice home, and its back in action. But what a crazy coincidence... PS- I went past your boat at Ellesmere, but I only realised it was mega famous youtubers a few days later when one of your videos appeared in my youtube recommendations. Anyway, I hope you keep on going- your videos are great fun, way above the average, always fun and upbeat- great stuff. PPS- re the bikes thing, I had a brompton but I found it to be a rough ride on some of the towpaths (and I'm worried if those thin tyres are safe when the mud and winter comes), so I'm getting a folding ebike instead with suspension and fatter tyres. It doesnt really fit inside the boat, which is a pain, but then its not as valuable/recognisable as a brompton, so its not as attractive to scrotes, and I rarely park in places close to towns etc. But yes, you should have a think about trading in the brompton for an ebike- then you can arrive at the post office perfectly coiffured- plus the hills are tons easier to do.

Haha I only found that hat because Puddin peed on it 😂 it was deep within the long grass 😄🏴‍☠️ thank you for your lovely comment 😄😄 I ordered a Swytch kit for my Brompton back in March and it’s due to arrive any day now which will make it electric so I can’t wait for that 😄😄🏴‍☠️

My Brompton is the electric one, cost me 3200 and I've only ridden it half a dozen times, I've been thinking of flogging it for 2500, not even sure I'll get that much. But the places I moor are generally a fair way out of 9f town, and it's just too rough a ride for my liking so I want rid of it

I'm wondering if you could use a powerful cordless drill to lift that bridge? You would have to get an adapter to go on to the end of the drill to turn that shaft that you were turning with that crank. I'm sure some fabricater could make something for you. A blacksmith perhaps. Work smart not hard. Just a thought. 😎

Hi Heidi no it's the 4th Bridge from the staircase going to the private house the gearbox is to high up makes it hard. they're all very heavy to do work. Have a great time 🏴‍☠️💞

Well each video takes about 18hrs to edit and then uploading depends on speed sometimes 2hrs and other times all day and night 😂
