I took a short hiatus while working on some personal projects, but I'm back for the time being. I was looking through my phone the other night and came across some interesting clips from my first Dylan concert (and hopefully not my last). I couldn't record for more than 30-seconds because I was trying not to distract the band, and I believe that you have a more meaningful experience at a concert when you aren't watching it from behind a camera lens. Nonetheless, I'm glad I got these little snippets. I also found an incredible recording of the concert, which I remastered in Abelton Live and subsequently overdubbed to my footage. All photos were taken at this concert, and the first and last ones were taken by me.
This concert had a profound impact on me. The seating was not reserved, so I managed to arrive early and set up camp at the very front, about thirty feet from the center microphone. I'm not one for idolatry of Dylan, or anyone else for that matter (as Lennon once said, "I don't believe in Zimmerman, I just believe in me"). Despite that philosophy, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't speechless for a while afterward. Being that close to someone I had studied and admired for so long affected me both emotionally and artistically--I wrote three songs that night.
I hope everyone is healthy and safe. Get your vaccines as soon as they're available to you.
Love & Peace,
~SP

Great version ! Yes Dylan's voice was stronger and better than ever during the 2019 tour! And his interpretation of BOATM was at same level of deepness as the 66 tour!!

I went to the Irvine show in 2019 for my first Dylan concert and was stunned at how good he sounded, and was bummed that he played this song on every encore EXCEPT that one! Very fortunate it was recorded, it was clearly special.

His voice here is great! I think he sounds like the Rolling Thunder era but deeper.

I saw him for the first, and probably only, time in august 2018 in Auckland New Zealand. He played this song, i know from the song list published after. Blame it on the sound techs, blame it on the size of the arena, or blame it on his voice but i couldnt keep up with which song he was on. It was only when he clearly sang a familiar line that i realized what he was playing. The highlight of the show had to be his encore performance of blowing in the wind, that everyone seemed to be able to keep up with, and sing along, to. I, however would absolutely go again despite not getting the same since along experience i did with Mccartney. As a classmate from uni said when i bumped into him at the entrance when i remarked that he didnt seem like a Dylan fan: "im not, but he's Bob Dylan so i thought i better had come anyway to pay my respects, because hes Bob Dylan."

a few years ago, like your classmate, i went to a Bob Dylan concert to pay my respects -- he was mainly focussed on his keyboards, and it was difficult to recognise any of the songs, even though i've been listening to him and playing his music on guitar since the mid-60s, especially his early albums up to Blonde on Blonde, a few of the boots, his mid-70s recordings, and his 90s acoustic tracks -- however at one point i heard the word "seven", and this narrowed it down enough for me to work out he was playing "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" (which i verified later from a song list)

I wouldn't say it's better than it's ever been, but it certainly is the best state his voice has been in since the 80s started.

@Cyber-Funk I understand what you are saying! I have loved Bob’s voice throughout his entire career, even when he was having some vocal cord strain. I have to say I absolutely love his voice here and the seasoned delivery of this song! It is beautifully riveting at times! : )

WOW SP! So many thoughts...first wrt your notes. How amazing that your *first* Dylan concert was in 2019, which is about 50 years after *my* first Dylan concert, yet you're so much more of a Dylanologist/ scholar than I, and I've learned so much from you, kiddo! Along the way I've collected most of Dylan's commercial albums & seen him live maybe a dozen times, but I only ever listened & grooved, I never compared performances, studied or analyzed much. I'd decided awhile back I'd rather not see him live again-- I was convinced his voice was shot, and I couldn't afford to be dusappointed. But here you come, SP, showing the Bobster in fine vocal form as recently as 2 years ago-- and so I guess I'll try & rustle up a ticket, even if I have to spring for a plane ticket & hotel, too. The Bob's 80th bd is this May, and there may not be too many more stops on the Neverending Tour, so the Quest is Urgent! Hope to see ya there, Piglet! 🎶😎

my thoughts and experiences close to exactly. My first concert was 74, stopped spending any case on BD after three boring shows in the early 2010s. This thin man proved the old guy still has inspiring moments. Next tour; I'm there!

Your sense of timing is so good, you even managed to switch frames in a melodic way! 👏🏻 Love your clear photos. I especially love the close ups and the wonderful capture of the bow at the end!👌🏻 Thanks for sharing this and your personal thoughts in your description!

Something happened that night at Palo Alto 2019, only listening to the entire concert, over and over again. Bob and Band were laying down something he has always been alluding too. His painting, his Masterpiece Performance. Just sayin.

'I'm not one for idolatry of Dylan, or anyone else for that matter.' I wasn't expecting that. Please don't get me wrong because I think that's very sensible of you and that's a philosophy I myself try to follow, though I fail miserably sometimes, but nonetheless I'm kind of taken aback.
