I realize this is a few minutes late but in honor of Bob's birthday, I've decided to upload a performance played on his birthday (May 24) in 1966. The conversation he has with the audience is priceless. This was recorded in Paris, France. Both photographs are from the same night. Enjoy this gem while you can!

This night, at the Olympia in Paris, 1966 may 24th, he spent a long time without singing (nearly the first part of his show) : tuning his guitar, talking, making fun on the public, but singing only a little. Some people were very angry. I was there, 13th, and so happy to watch and hear him !This song is one of the rares of the part 1 - the second one was with his Band, and electric instruments, definitely no talking, but only singing. Thank's a lot for going on publishing this meeting !

For me, "it's all over now, baby blue" is one of the most underrated song of Dylan! He loved that tune and sang it so much expecially in 65 and 66! It's a direct message to all those you wanted him a protest singer: it's all over now! (Accept it or die) If you have the Newport 65 version , with his tears...it would be great!

You must leave now, take what you need, you think will last But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast Yonder stands your orphan with his gun Crying like a fire in the sun Look out, the saints are comin' through And it's all over now, baby blue The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense Take what you have gathered from coincidence The empty-handed painter from your streets Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets The sky, too, is folding over you And it's all over now, baby blue All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home All your rowing armys they are going home You lover who just walked out your door Has taken all his blankets from the floor The carpet, too, is moving under you And it's all over now, baby blue Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you The vagabond who's rapping at your door Standing in the clothes that you once wore Strike another match, go start anew And it's all over now, baby blue.

I'm pretty sure his stylized singing voice, enunciation and diction (and what you refer to as the "Dylan slur") are all done consciously to create his unique artistic persona. To a certain degree it's "natural", but at the same time, it's worked out in an attempt, quite successfully, in my opinion, to add poignancy to the song. Also when he uses a word such as " knowed" in a song ("Don't Think Twice"); he obviously is aware that "knowed" is not "the Queens english" and I doubt he uses it in regular speech, but used in a song lyric it gives the feeling the the singer is a "hick troubadour", that one isn't just "book smart" but is in touch with a deeper strain of wisdom.
