This recording provides a great insight into Dylan's transition to rock & roll. I'm surprised this in-depth explanation he gave to his audience hasn't gotten any attention.
This was recorded on May 27, 1966 at Royal Albert Hall in London, his LAST concert on tour before crashing his motorcycle and taking an eight-year break from touring.
I have more tracks from this historical concert on my channel under the playlist, "Royal Albert Hall, UK." There's a GREAT version of "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" with hilarious commentary.
Enjoy this gem while you can, and please subscribe!

His speech is so emotional and reveals how he was affected not being understood by part of the public in his musical evolution. But after all these years it's so clear that Dylans was so in advance for that era.

I don’t think he was affected at all. He just did what he did. If people liked it great. If they didn’t great. This whole monologue is more reconciliatory than he would be sober but it still is the same thing, do what you want and so will I!

This is a grand speech to the audience. What a sweet guy .. It's so mournful. It's from the heart. I think honesty is basic to b Dylan. Those who call him arrogant...I believe, have zero understanding of this person . When I read all these lovely comments hear and there, it,'s clear that there are millions of fans who DO understand his sincerity. That touches me greatly .

Ah he was quite arrogant in this period though, and this is coming from a colossal Dylan fan. If you watch Don't Look Back, or even the disjointed Eat The Document, you'll see the aloof, dismissive character that Dylan was during the mid 60's.

Well I suppose you could call it “stoned rambling” if you didn’t know the context behind where he was at this particular time. Basically he admits that he had played rock music since he was a teenager and only played folk for a brief time when rock basically appeared to be dead. Now he’s trying to return to that style but he’s being booed everywhere he goes because that’s not what made him popular

Bob’s voice is so pleasant, he’s really the Master of music and art. His last performance in 1966. Whatever happens then, when Bob returned to US, maybe was good for him. He could live with his wife and children, in Woodstock. Resting from the world 🌎 who nearly ripped him apart. 💕 Media, fans, chased him down. They spread a lot of guesses about Bob. He had died in the mc crash. He was alive with brain damage, but Bob came back, thanks to God. He needed time to slow down and be husband and father, without screaming fans, and money lover producers. Bob didn’t tour in 8 years. Still he wrote new songs Never forget that Bob is the Greatest authors, songwriter ever. That you know by now...🌹🍷🎶🍷♥️

listening since childhood, rainy day women, like a rolling stone, it aint me babe, positively 4th street, lay lady lay: the things that a person hears in the background on the radio (or did) even a kid in rural North Carolina, liked but took for granted, I'm 44 years old now, and a big Bob Dylan fan: I have every studio album and listen daily, and I never get tired of him, the songs: the more I listen to him the less there is to say: Wow! says it all.

Great post! Appreciate all the work you put into these videos. Was there a video from 1966 of One Too Many Mornings that you posted a while back? Not sure if it was deleted or if I just couldn't track it down.

Obvioiusly stoned and drunk. The original recording of this song is so much better. One of his best from the early period. So concise and light, and yet embittered and sorrowful. The finger picking on it is beautiful.

This is awesome. He's arguing against assigning meaning to songs based on their genres. Instead, he's proposing that we listen to their words and sounds

This version is fun to listen to (including the intro) but if you really want to appreciate Dylan's wonderful talent, listen to the to the "original recorded" version....

it doesn't matter what drug it was, in the end he was utterly exhausted by his own presence. He just couldn't downshift, he had to give himself up to get to himself..
