Lyrics:
Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

As an old soul 28 year old, sometimes I switch between that being a good thing and a bad thing. The young will always make mistakes, and will forever change the dynamic. I've been lucky in keeping apace with the times, but I fear one day that won't be the case. There's also old people with new ideologies, and young with old ideologies. The best we can do sometimes is adapt, and let people make mistakes.

One of my all time favourite songs! I recently turned 31, and have been listening to Mr Dylan since I was 4, i know that because in an old family video tape from 1997, there's me on my 4th birthday, at the dining table eating ice cream cake and listening to this song trying to sing along 😂❤ I also still have the cassette tape that my father gave me, among others, when I was 6, maybe 7, because my father started using CDs, and I was over the moon. Thanks to my father, I have a love for music that was before my time, i possibly wouldn't have known if it weren't for him. 🙌🏻 Bob Dylan, Richie vallens, Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Beetles, The beachboys, Rod Stewart, Johnny Cash, The Doors, Red Hot Chillie Peppers, U2, Patsy Cline, Paul McCartney and so on! Love them all.

This, plain and simply, is probably the best song ever written. To write deep and profound lyrics, in which every single word is as relevant in 2021 as it was in 1964 says it all. These words will ring true in 200 years as well, i'm sure. This song alone is proof of his Nobel-price worthyness.

Exactly. This song quite literally is revolutionary. You could play it at the start of time or at the end of it. Because the only one constant fixed point in life is change it will be forever relevant. That alone is insane in it's own respect. It's quite literally a timeless song essentially by design. There is only a handful of songs that you could ever say that about.

If there’s one song that needs to be saved from Dylan’s incredible discography, it’s this one in my opinion. It’s always relevant to any moment in history and was particularly profound in the 1960s when it was written at the height of the Cold War. It’s also the best part of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen so there’s that.

we know it's your opinion. Is your life summed by one song, a single bit of poetry? I know of slugs I've saved whose impenetrable complexity speaks of billions of years of development, narrative, song. I just rec'd a package with a false return address. it was sealed make-stupid-weed. I tore the package open, and released it into nature to become something else, other things. It may be worth it in your delusion to smoke and become illiterate and stupid, but the slugs will make something better, more beautiful than stupid, more eloquent than crooning fawning groveling iconization, of your body.

This song defines a period of my life. Me and some friends went to see Dylan in Glasgow when we were 17. We got really, really drunk as teenagers will and made quite a lot of noise. Now I'm older I want to apologise to anyone whose concert we disturbed and to Bob himself for us being disrespectful teenagers and shouting stuff out and generally being dicks. Your music has improved my life so much Bob, I'm sorry we were dumb rude teenagers. Much love, always. Xx

"Come mothers and fathers throughout the land And don't criticize what you can't understand Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command Your old road is rapidly agin' Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin" For me, those lyrics hit the hardest. Every generation thinks that they're better than the next generation and that they're better than the previous generation. That is a cycle that has been going on since the beginning of time and will probably continue untill the end. People will never adapt to change.

TheRickay That’s because when they recorded songs in the 60s in the studio, they would sing the whole song all the way through and then would take the best version of it and release it. It’s not like nowadays where the “artist” sings a line they record it, then they’ll sing another line record it and mix which ever lines were sung best. There was no auto tune, there was no let’s take half of this take and part of this take. There’s a great story that Al Cooper (the accordion player for “Like a Rolling Stone”) said. He was in the recording studio with Bob Dylan and they recorded the song 11 times and the studio manager released the song that we all know and love today- yet the accordion player said that on take 1 of recording, Bob Dylan nailed the song and did it so well that they didn’t even think they needed anymore takes and thought that that was it and that should have been it. He said “You don’t mess with magic and that first take WAS magic“ but he said the song they released was like take 6 or 7 and doesn’t even think it was the best version of the song. So you’re always going to hear infractions of his voice in every single one of his songs pre-80’s. That’s what makes the artists of the 60’s and 70’s amazing, authentic, real, and superior artists.

As the old man that am, I watched the Capitol building being asalted the last thing I had suspected was A kick in my face. The only thing that has been accomplished with the so called peaceful demonstrators. I'm not too old that I don't know what went on, but I think I would have to say that what I saw on my television (and every channel I switched to) look at the other views but it was like a lot more people that are not respectful of the things that we as a nation hold onto and I don't know what you mean by that forcable crowd wasn't a demonstration of what I understand it to be an honest attempt to forcibly enter the people's House and disrupt the counting ofI will have as devided

Honestly this song truly is timeless. Think about it the one fixed point in life is change. You could play this at the very beginning of time or at the end of it. Because the only fixed point in life is change this song will forever be relevant and quite literally timeless. There is only a handful of songs literally ever that you could even say that about. With just this song alone Bob you earned your Nobel prize. You truly did.
