Bob Dylan - To Ramona (LIVE HD FOOTAGE 1965)

I combined multiple clips from outtakes of D.A. Pennebaker's "Don't Look Back" to create this little music video of one of Dylan's most underrated songs. The bulk of the footage and audio was recorded at Town Hall in Newcastle, England on May 6, 1965.
There have been other videos on the internet, but never of this quality. I dubbed over the original low-quality audio with the official soundboard recording, only released in about 500 copies.
Enjoy this gem while you can, and please subscribe!

One of my favourite Dylan songs when I was a young girl, in England, training to be a nurse. It spoke to me and I understood every word of it.

"It's all just a dream, babe, a vacuum, a scheme, babe, that sucks you into feeling like this." How does a 22 year old kid come up with lyrics like that and then set them to a melody that perfectly expresses the emotions of the singer? Thank you for posting my favorite Dylan song of all time.

Peter, i am on board. Neil young said that songwriting is a gift that comes and goes. Dylan told neil young in an interview that he doesn’t know the guy who wrote those songs. It was a gift that came and went. If you are ready to accept it , it happens. If your not it passes. Long live Dylan. And Neil Young.

Being an on and off songwriter myself, I fully agree about the ethereal nature of the muse. There were times when songs just poured out of me unchecked and others when the flow was staunched. Check out a prolific period (during COVID) that produced this Broadway musical. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrCEdaely5qVh3k.html

Ramona, come closer Shut softly your watery eyes The pangs of your sadness Will pass as your senses will rise For the flowers of the city Though breathlike, get deathlike sometimes And there's no use in tryin' To deal with the dyin' Though I cannot explain that in lines Your cracked country lips I still wish to kiss As to be under the strength of your skin Your magnetic movements Still capture the minutes I'm in But it grieves my heart, love To see you tryin' to be a part of A world that just don't exist It's all just a dream, babe A vacuum, a scheme, babe That sucks you into feelin' like this I can see that your head Has been twisted and fed With worthless foam from the mouth I can tell you are torn Between stayin' and returnin' Back to the South You've been fooled into thinking That the finishin' end is at hand Yet there's no one to beat you No one t' defeat you 'Cept the thoughts of yourself feeling bad I've heard you say many times That you're better than no one And no one is better than you If you really believe that You know you have Nothing to win and nothing to lose From fixtures and forces and friends Your sorrow does stem That hype you and type you Making you feel That you gotta be exactly like them I'd forever talk to you But soon my words Would turn into a meaningless ring For deep in my heart I know there is no help I can bring Everything passes Everything changes Just do what you think you should do And someday maybe Who knows, baby I'll come and be cryin' to you.

I'm so jealous in a way to listen to DYLAN albums and all his amazing work. His phrasing delivery his imagery for the first time is mind blowing, but the thing with DYLAN is no matter how many times you listen to one of his albums it will all have something different to say. Anyway enjoy and what a ride you're about to take.

@@helenbodel3974 well, all this was a long time ago but I seem to recall that the first album I bought was a red labeled LP, Columbia was the record company. I think it was Highway 51 Revisited. When I teach about Dylan, I use this song to demonstrate his ability to perfectly and organically match lyrics to the melody, tempo, meter of the music. You might try this. I ask how many students have ever heard "To Ramona." I then select one at random from among those who have never heard the song. I hand them a slip of paper (or use a whiteboard) containing the opening two lines. I then ask the person to recite the words aloud while slapping a beat on the table. I ask him/her to repeat it a few times and then try to sing it. Invariably, the student winds up singing the words to the actual melody - as if that's the only way they could possibly be sung. Which is, in fact, the case and is the point of the exercise.

Dylan saw all through the fog. He was playing the part with the "hip movement" but he never bought it into the act. He was more mature than anyone. The Beatles also, I'd argue were merely lucky. They had their innocence intact and then they made the trip to India which I think was a very important part of their life.

@@asadmanzoor5797 You're right there. I've got Dylan albums before and I've only liked maybe 2 tracks, then the more i listen to it i get into more songs on the album. I think that's 1 of Dylan's brilliance. Almost all of his albums will grow on you if you give them the time to listen. Obviously not every album. You can't make music for 60 years and have every album a classic, but he's made quite a lot of really good albums that get passed by at first, but when you go back and listen again you find there's some really good albums you can rediscover. 👍

This song is both funny and tragic, a warning to Baez to give up, saying fighting is futile because he knew nothing wud be able change the world at a big enough scale for it to matter, Baez tho never listened and suffered from it unable to see she was fighting an unwinnable war, but he knew she’d never change which is probably why they never stayed together

To Ramona was about Joan Baez, as was I Want You. Right? Her song to BD was Diamonds and Rust. My favorite JB song. Heartbreaking.

Break on through...that`s what he did with this one. The first true Dylan song...weird psychedelic smartness!
